Each Mask — other than the Mystic Noh-men — is classified as a Style. A Nogakujin can swap Masks swiftly, but generally only once per round. The basic Mystic Noh-men can be left on when another Mask is active. At a Speed Stat of 6, a Mask can be swapped twice per round. At Speed 8+, three times. What this means is that the types of skills available per round are limited to how many times the Nogakujin is able to switch masks. If a Nogakujin has a Speed Stat of 5 or less, he or she may use two different Masks/Styles per round. This INCLUDES Defenses and takes into account the Mask that was in place the round prior.
Example:
If your Nogakujin had a Genjutsu Mask in place at the end of the previous round and then is attacked by an enemy in the current round, he or she could either Defend against those Attacks with Genjutsu from that specific Mask/Style OR he or she could switch to a different Mask/Style and Defend using different skills. However, the act of using skills from a different Style would count as "swapping Masks" and would need to actually be posed as ICly occurring AND it would use up the single "swap" action available. Essentially, it would restrict all further skills within that round to skills in the Style of the Mask that was swapped to. No other Mask/Style could be used within that round. Just the Style of the Mask that is currently in place. However, if the Nogakujin used the Genjutsu Mask's Defenses, he or she could still swap masks once during his or her turn for Attacks or Transformations or any other purpose.
As mentioned above, at a Speed Stat of 6, a Mask can be swapped TWICE per round, thus allowing for a potential total of THREE Styles to be used in a single round. If a Nogakujin has a Speed Stat of 8 or higher, Masks can be swapped THREE times per round, allowing for a potential total of FOUR Styles to be used in a single round.
NOTE: A Nogakujin must actually be wearing his or her Mask ICly to make use of that Mask's/Style's skills. However, with a Seals Stat of 6 or higher it becomes possible to make use of a Mask simply by touching it or holding it in hand for the duration of a given jutsu within that Mask's/Style's skill-set. This does NOT negate the limitation on the number of Mask Styles that can be used per round. It simply allows them to be used more swiftly.
Every Mask Style, whether it be Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, or Genjutsu-based, MUST be named after a Noh play, and further, the skills a given Mask makes accessible (thus, what you app in that Style) must make sense in the context of that play! The play "The Twill Drum" or "Aya no Tsuzumi" would make sense to be apped as a Nogakujin Ninjutsu style that provides Water-based Jutsu, with a focus on drowning enemies, and POSSIBLY crafting spirit-like beings from water. It would NOT make sense for the Twill Drum Mask Ninjutsu style, which is based off a play in which a gardener drowns himself when he discovers the one he loves has made a fool of him, to provide a Nogakujin with powers of radiation and the ability to mutate animals to do his or her bidding. A Nogakujin Style that is applied for by one Nogakujin cannot be learned by a different Nogakujin without personal instruction.
