Hidenjutsu: Spider Traits & Insect (Spider) Control
Background:
The Okumo clan of Kirigakure models itself after, communicates with, and
acts as home to: spiders. The Okumo are able to control webs generated by
the spiders inside of them, as well as direct their spiders to take action
for them. They even take on some of the physical traits of the spiders
they're most closely associated with. The Okumo embrace genetic
manipulation as a way of life, and even before a child is conceived, the
Elders of the Okumo influence the child's development by deciding on the
type of spiders it will be most compatible with (based on likely genetic
makeup). From there, spiders are introduced into the mothers body, nesting
in the womb, and then within the child before birth.
Specialities:
Okumo clan members must take either the Hunter or the Nester track.
Hunters are mostly Taijutsi oriented, supplemented by Ninjutsu. Nesters are
mainly Genjutsu or Ninjutsu oriented.
The Nesters, taking after nesting spiders that build webs, are the
intellectual branch: planners and schemers, usually specializing in
Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. They use web-based and spider-based Ninjutsu and
Genjutsu to both trap and poison their opponents. This branch of the family
is often scientists as much as they are ninja, constantly breeding new
spiders within themselves to create new abilities. The Hunters are modeled
after hunting spiders: those who actively move around seeking out prey
instead of waiting for it to come to them. Usually focusing on Taijutsu,
and genetically engineered to mirror the strength and agility of a spider
the Hunters also use webs, poisons and claws in their attacks.
Even though the emphasis on genetics often blurs the line between these
two branches, the branches tend to have a certain amount of pride in their
unique status, and occasionally this causes a bit of friction between
members. More often then not, it's the more aggressive Hunters where this
friction is most visible, though that isn't to say Nesters don't feel the
same, but they tend to value patience, and are unlikely to display their
occasional irritation with their Hunter brethren.
