In addition to Styles, there are very specific Styles that can be "attached" to an existing Style one already has on one's +sheet, in terms of progression. These Styles are called "Supplemental Styles" or "Supplementary Styles". They typically do not have a substantial capacity to have large numbers of Jutsu within them, and they exist due to another style that one's character is already progressing in. These Styles cost the same as any other Style, but their benefits are that they do not need to be "mastered" or have skill Ranks/Tiers "unlocked" with lower level Skills to progress. It is expected that there will be at least 1 Jutsu per Rank (other than E-Rank), unless one is given permission for a Supplemental Style to start at a different jutsu Rank.
For example, Chakra Shaping can be a Style by itself, but it can also be supplemental. For a Clan like the Hyuuga Clan or the Medic-Nin Clan, where Chakra control is already emphasized, it is far easier for Chakra Shaping to be a Supplemental Style, because they already have a strong emphasis on Chakra-related Jutsu and Control. However, if one simply has, for example, an Elemental Ninjutsu Style or similar Style, that does not mean one has the control and expertise necessary to have Chakra Shaping be "dependent" on one's Ninjutsu knowledge.
Using Naruto canon as an example, it has been stated that Chakra Shaping is one of the hardest things to learn AFTER learning Elemental Ninjutsu. Elemental Ninjutsu is relatively easy by comparison, and thus it is very difficult to "unlearn" the lessons that lead to being able to use Elemental Ninjutsu.
For one's first Supplemental Style, it costs the same as though it were one's SECOND Style, regardless of how many other Styles one already has — even of the same type! Thus, 4 XP and 1 PP for one's first Supplemental Style. One's second Supplemental Style would cost 4 XP and 2 PP. A third, and all further Supplemental Styles beyond the third, cost 4 XP and 3 PP.
