Appearance
Kenta has medium black hair that's usually in a mild state of dishevelment. The tips of a few strands constantly hangs over his Konoha forehead protector. He stands at an even five feet tall and is slim in stature. His eyes are a dark, rich brown with an slightly owlish roundness that make them look almost too large for his thin face. He has a small, perk nose over lips that are used to curving into shy smiles. His pale skin barely tans no matter how often he spends time outdoors.
When he's on duty, Kenta tends to wear simple clothing that covers most of his slender body. A dark blue shirt hugs him tightly, stretching from waist to neck to wrists. Over it, a grey-green leather vest with a stiff upright collar serves as protection for his torso. Multiple pockets and sheaths in the vest make it easy to keep supplies handy. Dark blue leggings cover his legs, ending at open-toed grey-green boots.
Personality
The people that have worked with Kenta tend to describe him as having a steady stoic personality; always friendly, but often quiet and sometimes to the point of shyness. He tends to open up after more interaction, yet no one has ever witnessed him act as boisterous as many of the peers his age can get. Kenta is very serious about his work, so he always does the best job that he can. He favors completing a task efficiently and disfavors showing off for the sake of it or drawing unnecessary attention.
Background
Kenta doesn't belong to any particularly distinguished clan, but he comes from a long line of medic-nin. His family are expert users of medical ninjutsu, even before the establishment of the great ninja villages and the introduction of formal ninja academies. Due their innate finesse at chakra control, most Akiyama family members tend to master additional types of jutsu in addition to their medical jutsu.
He was born a few years before the great villages were established, but he's barely old enough to remember much about those times. What he does remember is that the world was always on the brink of violence and chaos. His parents were victims of this instability, leaving him to be raised by his grandmother at the age of five. Due to this fact, Kenta feels very strongly about doing his part in protecting the Konohagakure and what it presents.
Like the rest of his family, he has an innate aptitude at chakra control. He started medic-nin training with his paternal grandmother from a very early age. By the time that he officially joined the ninja academy at 9 years old, he was already more knowledgeable than most of the students and had a wider range of abilities to start with. He graduated from the academy a year later and mostly faded into the background as a Genin due to his unassuming mannerism and his dislike of causing ripples.
Kenta continued to grow as a ninja over several years, but never participated in any of the Chuunin exams. He felt comfortable in his position, so the possibility never truly occurred to him. He might have remained a Genin for several years longer, if not for a particular incident. During a bad situation, he managed to save the lives of two other Genin. Whatever happened, the other Genin involved seemed too embarrassed to speak about it. Kenta was promoted to Chuunin shortly afterwards.
At the age of seventeen, Kenta discovered that his family history's a little more complicated than he thought. He was always told that his maternal grandfather died before his mother was born. In reality, she was the bastard of a brief adulterous affair between his maternal grandmother and a prominent Yamanaka clan member. Kenta was shocked and dismayed at these revelations, which came about when his maternal grandfather contacted him after the death of his grandfather's legal wife.

Uchiha Kyuketsuki | Konohagakure | He's a genjutsu specialist and now I'm teaching him medical ninjutsu too. He's gone through some bad blunders as a shinobi, but that'll just make him stronger at the end. |
Sarutobi Hikaru | Konohagakure | He's a fire ninjutsu user, which isn't surprising for the Sarutobi clan. Better than that, he's very interested in seals and all their usages. This is definitely something that I can work together with him. |
Satonezu Daichi | Konohagakure | He's very young, but obviously a very brave individual. Strong too, being able to survive being struck by a Great Fireball Jutsu when just a student. Hopefully, that won't happen often now that he's on my team… |
Name | Affiliation | Notes |
---|---|---|
Inuzuka Takeo | Konohagakure | He's a Hero of the Leaf. To take on the burden of housing a Bijuu within his own body for the sake of the village… I can't even imagine what he has to go through. But now, even that's lost to him. |
Nara Nobuo | Konohagakure | He has the type of sharp intelligence that I've always associated with the Nara. If we put our minds together, I'm sure that no solution will evade us for long. |
Satonezu Eremi | Konohagakure | I don't know much about him yet, but Atsuro-senpai looks upon him favorable. That means he's a good and capable shinobi in my mind. |
Uzumaki Tsukino | Konohagakure / Uzushiogakure | A princess with a spine of steel and a sense of duty as sturdy as a mountain. There's nothing about her that says pampered. Uzushiogakure raises its princesses right… and accident prone. |

Amara Nobunaga | Konohagakure | He's a good friend, but I wonder what's in his past. Even he can't remember it. Maybe I'll be able to help him rediscover his origins one day. |
Akimichi Ikari | Konohagakure | What an adorable little girl! She's obviously a genius of her clan too. I bet that great things will be in her future. |
Inuzuka Atsuro | Konohagakure | He's one of the most amazing individuals that I've ever met; strong, kind and helpful. I feel like he's the brother I never had. |
Inuzuka Hige | Konohagakure | Another Inuzuka! He's kind of brash, but he seems to have a good heart. It's also refreshing to see another person so dedicated to training. |
Inuzuka Konsho | Konohagakure | I'm so sorry Taizen-senpai! I know that I probably shouldn't think this way, but Konsho is my favorite ninken. He's just so adorable… |
Inuzuka Taizen | Konohagakure | He must be the smartest ninken in Konoha! He definitely has the best nose. Him and his partner, Atsuro, are great at sniffing out spiders. I even saw him play basketball once. |
Inuzuka Taiki | Konohagakure | He's my superior at the Konoha Hospital and one of the most talented medic nin I've ever met. I want to be just like him one day. |
Nara Tatsuo | Konohagakure | Team Mate, Student, Ward… He's all these things, but more importantly, he's Family. For all purposes, he's my younger brother and Grandmother's second grandson, despite the lack of blood relations. |
Uzumaki Shiro | Unaffiliated | He's a very strange individual, but oddly nice to be around. There's something about the way he looks at me sometimes that I can't identify. |

Akuu Myouri | Konohagakure | She's such a hard worker! And pretty weird even for her age, but I'm pretty sure this is what having a little sister feels like. I hope I don't poison her with my cooking… |
Iwata Michiko | Kumogakure | One of my medical students. She might be a bit younger than me, but I sense a kindred spirit. I can tell that she loves scholarship as much as I do. |
Kamizuru Kioko | Konohagakure | One of my medical students. I've never met someone that can turn something as sweet and delicious as honey into a weapon before, but she makes it look easy. |
Uzumaki Konda | Konohagakure | He's pretty skilled at defensive techniques for a Genin and I can tell he's working hard on his knowledge of seals. I think he's definitely someone that'll go far. |
Uzumaki Naruko | Kumogakure | She's not like any of the other Uzumaki that I know. She doesn't work with seals and have a much more flamboyant personality. It's such a study in contrast. |

Friday 01/07/12 A.F
The situation a little odd, but we currently have a medic-nin from Kirigakure camped outside of Kadomai with her family. Her name's Akane and she's from an enemy village, but she's also working as a mercenary under Hokage-sama in all matters regarding the Silence. This would be suspicious enough on its own, but Akane's also suffers from a split personality disorder, with one side of her being a violent and seemingly sadistic individual. I already had trouble with this "Kyoujin" half when she nearly killed Isura and I a few weeks ago. That incident also burned down a swath of Konoha's forested land. I don't trust her. I might have also saved her life today.
I received a note this morning, saying that Akane's critically injured at her temporary home. When I arrived there, I found her with all kinds of horrible burns, slice wounds and shatters ribs with some of the shards stuck in quickly collapsing lungs. It was horrifying. Even though I don't trust her, I hate seeing people die, so I did what I had to. In the process, I learned a little about the traumas she suffered as a child that created her second personality. I made me understand her a little more and even sympathize with her a lot. But I still don't trust her.
Sunday 01/30/12 A.F.
I hate Lady Feather. It's kind of strange to hate someone, since it's such a useless emotion, but I really do hate her. Over the last few months, Atsuro-senpai and I have been working with various people to fix the messes that she caused. First, she sent people to steal a soul-eating immortality jutsu from the Temple of Embers. Then, she sends shinobi crows to plague one of our smaller villagers. After that, we discovered that she's been secretly kidnapping special children from many different countries over the last eleven years and is forcing them to work for her with cursed seals. I just completed a mission with Atsuro-senpai and a big group of Konoha shinobi to save more than three hundred villagers in the Land of Snow from getting killed by her. This is all already enough to make me hate her. But the worst thing is what happened at the end of the mission. She sacrificed three of those kids she kidnapped, two of them only ten years old, to save her own life. She threw them away like old dishrags. She got away this time. I won't let it happen again.
Sunday 02/13/12 A.F.
I'm kind of conflicted. I just came back from a very important mission with Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai and Eremi. Apparently, Hokage-sama handpicked the team and assigned Eremi as the leader, wanting it to be some kind of test for Eremi. We had to infiltrate Moyagakure to rescue a few Konoha shinobi that the Moyagakure shinobi kidnapped. We fulfilled our goals, but something happened that I could never forget. After we got the kidnapping victims out of there, Eremi-san used an extremely powerful jutsu to mostly destroy Moyagakure. We didn't stick around to check, but I bet at least a third of the people in there died. Protecting Konoha is one of the most important goals of my life, but I don't know if this counts. I feel like destroying so much of the village was an act of revenge instead. Even though I wasn't the one that did it, I'm still partially responsible. I don't think I'll ever be able to get over this.
Thursday 02/24/12 A.F.
It took a few weeks, but we finally have a device that we can use to track Lady Feather. It took a team of seal experts and me so long to figure it out, because it was such a complicated problem. We had to reverse engineer an object with a chakra link to another object that she keeps on her person to create the device. It's not nearly foolproof either. The device contains one of a kind components, so it'll completely malfunction with no possibility of getting replaced if the components break. I'm surprised that Lady Feather hadn't figured out that she left something behind that could be a liability in our last encounter. Once she does, it'll take her a few seconds to break the link that we're exploiting and that'll render the tracking device useless too. I hope that we managed to pull this off before anything like that happens. All of us, but especially Atsuro-senpai and I, want to get rid of this menace. As long as Lady Feather lives, she's a threat to the world.
Tuesday 02/29/12 A.F.
Things are so horrible right now. I just returned from a mission with Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai, Hige and Konsho. So many people are dead, because I couldn't save them like a good medic-nin should. Atsuro-senpai said that there wasn't anything that I can do. He said that we couldn't have predicted that Lady Feather would attack the Temple of Embers to steal more forbidden jutsu and cover her own tracks. More than half the monks were already dead when we reach the place and even more were dying. He said that even the best medic-nin won't be able to save more than a few in that type of situation. He said that the ones that lived will be very grateful towards me forever. But what would the dead say? I bet they'd say that I should have been good enough to help them.
Sunday 03/05/12 A.F.
I'm in the hospital's sick ward now. I really want to leave, but they want to keep me for a whole week. I did hurt myself with a potentially lethal dose of poison while working on a new jutsu to use against Lady Feather, so I know I do need to stay for a little while. It wasn't so bad though. I managed to purge most of the poison before it killed me. So I still can't walk straight or focus my eyes too well or stay awake for long periods of time, but I know it'll take only a day or two for me to recover. Not a whole week. I can't train while I'm in here and I really need to train hard to prepare myself for the next time that Lady Feather appears.
Tuesday 03/07/12 A.F.
I'm so bored. Still several days before I'm allowed to leave the hospital. The other medics were very strict about it and I can't even argue. Did some of my own patients feel the same way when they had to take an extended stay? I did get some very good news today. It was the first thing to make me feel happy in a while. Hokage-sama promoted Atsuro-senpai to Jounin Commander of Konoha. That means that he's second in command of the shinobi forces, or something like that. Atsuro-senpai wasn't quite able to explain it to me when he came over for a visit. I can't believe that I'm associated with someone that important. I mean, Atsuro-senpai was very important already, but now he's like ten times as important. I need to figure out how much deeper I need to bow to him whenever we meet now.
Tuesday 03/14/12 A.F.
Most of the Fledglings are dead. The tracking device that I worked on took us straight to one of Lady Feather's lairs, but she outsmarted us. She left behind the object that the device was linked to, so we weren't really tracking her at all. She also left behind the bodies of most of the children - some of them teenagers now - that she kidnapped over the last decade. She took their souls to fuel that immortality jutsu. It makes me feel so sick… I couldn't believe that I couldn't save them either. I'm such a useless medic. At least we managed to recover Hageshi and Takato. It turns out that Natsumi managed to hide them before she was killed by Lady Feather. I'll keep them alive. That's one thing I'm not going to let everyone down on.
Atsuro-senpai thinks that I should see a therapist. I don't know if that'll really help, but he seems to think that it will. Anyway, I guess that I have no choice. If Atsuro-senpai says that I need therapy, then I'll go get therapy, even though it won't make me any less useless.
Wednesday 05/10/12 A.F.
I just came home from a pie festival at Kadomai! I know that it's silly to be excited about a pie festival, but I actually learned a lot from attending this one. Now I have more pie making ideas of my own due to all the research that I did. I must have sampled at least two dozen different pies. There were lots that I never knew about either, like stargazy pie and shoo-fly pie. Both of them were very interesting and I brought back one each for grandmother to try. The stargazy pie is the first one made of fish that I ever tasted. Atsuro-senpai didn't seem to like it much, but I thought it had a unique flavor. It's also kind of pretty, with all the fish heads sticking out decoratively. I was a little disappointed that the shoo-fly pie wasn't really made of flies. Flies and other insects are an incredible source of protein. Luckily, the shoo-fly pie was still delicious. I'm going to learn how to make that one for sure. I'll try to make a pie with real flies too, if I can get a good supply of them. Atsuro-senpai already agreed to be my taste tester. He's the best!
Saturday 05/27/12 A.F.
I really hope that I won't get called to the training grounds to give emergency surgery to a dying Genin again. The news is going to be all over Konoha by tomorrow. Somehow, Jade and Zori nearly killed Kyu in a spar. Things always goes too far when any two of the three are sparring and I've been half dreading that something like this will happen. Kyu is going to need weeks of recovery before he's fit for duty again. I wasn't even sure if I'd manage to save him when I saw him lying on the ground, nearly eviscerated by sharpened wires and gnawed on by kikaichu. I submitted a report on the incident to Taiki-sama, Atsuro-senpai and Hokage-sama. They're going to have a big headache sorting this out. Maybe I should mix together a nice blend of soothing tea for them.
Saturday 06/03/12 A.F.
I can't believe that the nightmare's finally over. Lady Feather is dead. I saw her killed with my own eyes. Sort of. I was a little distracted from trying to heal a bad injury that she gave me, but she was killed only a few dozen yards away from me. Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai, Hige and Konsho literally ripped her apart. Since we managed to get that immortal jutsu blocking poison into her before it happened, there's no way that she can regenerate from the small pieces that's scattered all over the ocean now. I tested a few samples of her remains just to make sure nothing can regrow. I'm not sure what I'm feeling now. Maybe a little angry that I didn't land the final blow. Maybe bitter that we can never erase the damage that she did. Even a little sad knowing that Lady Feather must have suffered a lot to change her into a monster over the years. Mostly, I think that I'm just relieved. We'll never have to deal with her or the problems caused by her ever again.
Saturday 06/11/12 A.F.
I was so wrong… Murders, kidnappings, massacres, extortion, vandalism and thievery. That's only a few of the crimes that Lady Feather committed over the years. As the two shinobi with the most knowledge about her and her Fledglings, Atsuro-senpai and I have the task of closing up her case. That means going over the information that was retrieved from all the secret bases that she built across the continent. I mean the ones that we can access without getting into hostilities with rival nations. There's very few real records on her activities, so we have to piece together a lot of the information from lists of identified stolen goods, her journal entries and other such evidence. This is going to take us months. We'll never going to be able to get a full account of all her crimes and reimburse all the victims in even a small way.
Sunday 6/25/12 A.F.
So we had a huge celebration today! Maybe huge isn't the best way to put it. It was me, Hige, Konsho, Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai, Mana-san, Shinobu-chan and Kame only. The huge part is that the celebration was for Hige and Konsho's promotion to Chuunin. That actually happened a few weeks ago, but I didn't know until recently. This is always a big step in a shinobi's life. I remember when it happened to me. I thought that I was dreaming for weeks afterwards. I was also alternatively beset by nervousness, joy and a horrible sense that my promotion was some kind of error. Hige and Konsho didn't show any signs of this at all, but it's different for them. Everyone knows that they're qualified for the position, unlike me back then. I just hope this means that Hige's going to learn better anger management. That's his main flaw and it's a pretty big one.
Sunday 07/02/12 A.F.
I feel so sorry for Toshio. He's going through something now that's similar to what I went through last year. He no longer knows who he is and will have to rediscover himself in the upcoming months. Maybe upcoming years. One of Toshio's biggest tenets is that a shinobi doesn't have to be part of a noble clan to become a great shinobi and ultimately Hokage. Well, he just found out that he's actually an Uchiha. Apparently, something happened that woke his Sharingan and he finally found out from his family that the father he never knew was part of one of Konoha's most powerful clans. Now, he's probably wondering whether all the successes that he had so far is only because he's an Uchiha. That type of revelation is like getting hit in the head with a boulder. I know that my entire world shifted when I found out that I have Yamanaka blood in me. Thankfully, Toshio is a very strong person. I know that he'll get through this.
Thursday 07/27/12 A.F.
Zori's antics are driving me mad. I don't know how this was missed when he was at the academy, but it's clear that he has some kind of mental illness. There's been so many incidents where he became unhinged now. Apparently, he ignored orders to refrain from killing during an important mission recently and went straight to lethal force. Now, he's also basically tried to kill my student twice. It's lucky that either Hige or I were around to save Kyu both times. Every time Zori enters a spar and sees blood, he enters such a manic stage of bloodlust that he tries to carve up everyone around him. This is a very serious problem. I also ordered Zori to seek therapy, but I don't know if that'll actually work. Mental illnesses are tricky to cure. It's dangerous to have someone without control in our shinobi forces. I hope that the Jounin figure out a way to handle him. It'll be sad to lose him as a shinobi, so the best thing would be to find a middle ground that'll allow him to be useful while preventing him from causing havoc.
Saturday 08/12/12 A.F.
This is probably one of my worst ideas ever. Takeo and Atsuro both told me several times that they think I'd make a good team leader. I definitely don't think that I will, but they words have planted a seed inside of me. Now, that seed's sprouting, which is where this idea came from. The best way to become better at something is to broaden one's experience at it. This means that if I do want to become a good team leader, I need to practice being one. That means that I should have a team in the first place. I mentioned this to Kyu, who's my first pick when it comes to forming a team, and he seems to like the idea very much. Now, I just have to figure out if I really want to go this way. More importantly, would anyone except Kyu even want to work under someone with my mediocre capabilities?
Thursday 08/24/12 A.F.
I learned something about Shinobu-chan that I never expected. She's such a shy, quiet and damaged person, always hiding behind Mana-san. I pretty much figured that something bad must have happened to her in the past to make her so wary of people. Something happened to today that put her in a bad state of mental shock. No matter how much Mana-san, Kyu, Hige or the ninken tried, they couldn't break her free of it. It was like she was in her own little world and couldn't hear anything from the outside. I eventually had to establish a telepathic link to her in order to send our words of encouragement to her. The link allowed me to glean so much of her surface thoughts in this uncontrolled state of hers. Terrible thoughts. Terrible memories. Memories of abuse and capture. Now I know that she was one of the children captured by that Youth Army and forced to fight for them. That kind of scarring lasts for a lifetime, but I hope that she'll be OK in the end.
Saturday 08/26/12 A.F.
I was thinking about it a lot, but I finally did it. I'm officially the Leader of Team Lunar. It's still only me and Kyu right now, but I'm actively looking for other Genin or Chuunin to round out the team. Team Lunar even went on its first mission today. It was kind of a small one, since there's not much that two people can do. Kyu and I tracked down a bear that's causing a lot of problems near one of our forest trading posts. The poor thing was very sick from festering injuries and also got into some hallucinogenic berries. That must be why it became so aggressive and attacked people. It's a good thing that Team Lunar currently consists of two medics. We performed field surgery as best as we can after subduing it. Now, the people that hired us plans to relocate the bear to a deeper part of the forest.
Wednesday 09/27/12 A.F.
I kind of see Hige in a different light now. I was discussing Zori with him and Atsuro-senpai today when he revealed an important fact about his past. He had never seemed to want to talk about his past until now. We all know that Zori has uncontrollable blood lust. Hige has an bad temper, but it was apparently MUCH worse when he was in the academy. He often bullied, beat up and vented his anger on other students. Now, he learned to channel it in other ways, but mostly by keeping it bottled up outside until he's able to give vent by smashing up a training location. It's not healthy at all. I really hope that Hige goes see a counselor like we suggested. One thing's for sure. We definitely need better measures in place for evaluating the mental health of our academy students.
Thursday 10/19/12 A.F.
I've been thinking back today. So much has happened in the last few months, some of it pretty bad. The biggest event is that Taiki-sama had declared open war on the Recluse and I know that all of Konoha backs him. I definitely do, after all the terrible things that the Recluse did. They captured and tortured Taiki-sama last year. This year, they captured Takeo and extracted Isobu from him, nearly killing him in the process. Takeo is mostly recovered now, but he'll never be the same again. He's been damaged in ways that make it impossible to seal Isobu back into him, so another host has been found for the Three-Tails. We killed so many of the Recluse during the rescue mission, but I recently learned that there's probably still many more out there. They're like cockroaches. I'll be the first person to sign up when we're ready to move against these monsters again.
Friday 11/24/12 A.F.
Zori's in jail. It's pretty easy to guess why, even if I wasn't the one that subdued him a few days ago for the police to drag him away. There was an altercation between him, Kajiru, Tatsuo and Shinobu. The results was pretty predictable. Now, Zori's down to his last chance. I think that everyone's despairing of ever fixing the problem that he has. I have a new idea, but I don't know if it'll work. There's definitely a mental aspect to his condition, but the right cocktail of drugs and medication might help him a little. I'm going to see if I can create an injection or pill that'll help him keep in control enough to avoid the worst of the affliction. If this works, it'll definitely be an improvement. That's the best we can hope for at this point, unless we're going to completely wipe and rewire his mind.
Saturday 12/02/12 A.F.
Team Lunar is finally a full team! We have four people on the roster as of today. Uchiha Kyu, Sarutobi Hikaru and Hyuuga Jetachi. I don't know how I ended up the leader of a group of Genin from such prominent clans, but it's kind of exciting. It also makes me a little nervous. I know that my leadership skills are pretty lacking. They're not going to be impressed very easily, not that my aim is to impress them. I just hope that I don't completely mess up too often, since it'll be bad for Team Lunar's image. At least having a roster of three impressive shinobi like this means that it'll be harder for us to fail missions entirely. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!
Sunday 12/10/12 A.F.
I can't believe that Konoha was attacked again and by the Recluse this time. I've been busy for the last few days. We only had one death, but there were plenty of injuries. The hospital is in an uproar. This is getting to be so common that it's routine for lot of the staff. It's only been a few months since the Silence attacked Konoha too, so all of us knew what to do. The younger medics like Kyu have a harder time handling the crisis, but I'm very proud of Kyu for working so diligently under the guidance of more experienced hands. He's come very far in the months since I first met him. But the more important thing now is to root out the leadership of the Recluse and burn it from the roots up. They've caused more than enough trouble for us already and they can't be allowed to do more.
Monday 12/18/12 A.F.
Two pieces of news reached me today. One has me outraged and the other just confused.
The Recluse attacked Kumo and sent an offensive letter to every village. That seems like a declaration of war to me. It sounds like they're trying to take over where the Silence failed. I don't know if this is a coincidence, since I've always wondered a little whether the two groups are connected. Whatever the case is, it's something else that the shinobi world will have to contend with. I'm so sick of wars…
The second piece of news regards Takeo. I haven't been comfortable talking about him much. He'd always be my friend and a hero in my eyes, but things have been awkward. Something happened and he was exiled from Konoha, but I don't know what. Now, I hear that he's joined Kumo's shinobi forces and was even promoted to Jounin. This seems very strange to me. Kumo accepted a shinobi exiled from an allied village and gave him seniority over native shinobi in the span of less than a month. It's Takeo, so it's a bit different, but I think most villages would worry about trusting a foreign shinobi that quickly. I also remember the political mess that occurred when Kaido-san tried to defect from Konoha to Kumo. I'm half expecting trouble between our two villages to come from this. Hopefully, Raikage-sama knows what he's doing. I heard he's a very intelligent person and he's one of Atsuro-senpai's personal friends, so he has to one of the most competent shinobi in the world.
P.S. Is Takeo's exile really a front for a secret mission? Is that why Raikage-sama accepted him so quickly? That would make so much more sense.
Tuesday 12/26/12 A.F.
It was just the other day that I was talking to Taiki-sama about our need for more medics. The threats posed by the Recluse, and the late Silence, showed us that medics are essential to keeping the casualties to a minimum when Konoha is attacked. Not that we didn't know that already. Medics have always held an important place in Konoha, which is why I've always been proud to be one. I'm also proud that many new candidates for training has stepped up after the recent attacks.
Just today, I took one three new medic trainees. I've trained several medics by now, including Kyu, Kioko, and even Michiko-san of Kumo. I've also given medical lessons to others like Tsukino and Shiro. I shouldn't be nervous anymore, but I'm still a little worried that these future medics will be placed in my hands. Taiki-sama would make such a better sensei, if only he's not always busy with the hundreds of other tasks that need his attention. The good thing is that this group is composed of very bright Genin - Hikaru, Shinobu and Tatsuo. I can already tell that they'll pick up these new skills quickly.
Thursday 12/28/12 A.F.
I don't think that Toshio's ever going to go on a mission that I lead ever again. I don't think I actually did badly, but we (including Hikaru) ended up picking up one of the worse in the roster without fully realizing it. I kind of knew that it won't be exactly easily, but not how difficult. I guess neither Toshio nor Hikaru had even the faintest idea, unlike me, when they signed on.
We ended up in a village in the south that relies on water from an underground stream that wells out of a nearby hill. The flow dropped drastically lately and the water that came out have some toxins in it that made the villagers mildly ill, so a team needed to check out the source of the stream. That required navigating some tunnels infested with things like giant centipedes, bats and insects. Luckily, we were given a map that showed the safest way to get to the source. Unluckily, the tunnel that we were supposed to follow collapsed right before we entered.
We still managed to complete the mission successfully, but it was a lot harder than it could have been. We ran through a cave full of giant bats that tried to eat us. Meanwhile, all the guano that collected in that cave overtime produced a lot of ammonia in the air, so we risked suffocating on the way through. There were millions of insects living off the guano too! Some must be carnivorous, because they tried to chew through our legs while we ran across them. Then, we found out that it was a giant toxic toad that blocked up the waterway by building a nest across it. It a lot of fire ninjutsu to chase it off and clear the blockage.
What a day.
Wednesday 01/17/13 A.F.
I'm in a bit of a shock. I finally found out who Isobu's new host is. Tatsuo… is the new Jinchuuriki of the Three Tails. I was sparring with him when he suddenly lost control and manifested a Bijuu cloak. Luckily, Atsuro-senpai and Taizen-senpai was nearby. Tatsuo also managed to suppress Isobu long enough to regain control. If this didn't happen, I'd never know who Takeo's replacement is, because this information is still classified. I have to keep what I learned to myself, which won't be a problem. I've never felt comfortable talking about the Bijuu to unauthorized individuals. Really, the more concerning thing now is how Tatsuo's handling his new role. This is really tough on him. As his medical sensei, I'm going to have to keep a close eye on him and make sure that he comes through this well. Still trying to process this.
Saturday 02/10/13 A.F.
It's finally over. After everything they've done, the combine forces of Kumo, Konoha and even Iwa ended the Recluse once and for all. I can't be more thrilled about that, but I wish that we didn't suffer casualties during the battle. I knew that some of us or our allies would die. We were assaulting a highly fortified fortress with three Kage-level shinobi leading a team of highly trained seal users. That always means casualties. It still hurts a little knowing that not everyone would live to see the threat destroyed.
On a lightly note, I was fortunate to see Hokage-sama in action. I knew that he's a very powerful shinobi, but it's still eye opening to see all the things that he can do. He did things that I never imagined is possible. I think having me with him just kind of slowed him down, but his summoned creature, the great panda Xun-sama, was nice enough to watch over me during the entire mission. I hope that I was at least a little helpful during the battle.
Oh, Tsuchikage-sama was in our group too. She was very impressive and proved why she's a Kage, but I think Hokage-sama is much better. He's Hokage-sama.
Sunday 02/25/13 A.F.
It's been a terrible few days. I was so relieved that the Recluse problems are over, but more things always pop up. Ugly things. Kyu's in a coma. He went on a mission and was badly injured. He was carried unconscious to the hospital after suffering a lot of blood loss and being hamstrung by some sword wielding villain. It took us hours to stabilize him. Not even sure if we can save his legs, but I'm very hopeful about that. None of the bones were crushed, which is a good sign. I've healed muscle and reattached torn tendons before. This is on a much greater scale of difficulty, but I'm sure he'll recover most, if not all, use of his legs. But the more problematic thing is that he suffered such a shock to the system that he's showing no signs of waking up. What if he never wakes up? No. I can't think that way. I'll make sure that he recovers enough to come out of this coma, no matter how long it lasts.
Oh. Zori's in jail again. Not a big surprise.
Monday 03/12/13 A.F.
Kyu's still not awake yet. It's getting close to three weeks now. His vital signs look good otherwise, which is a relief. But it's worrying me a lot that he's still in this coma. The longer he's in one, the harder it'll be for him to escape from it. I tried to reach his mind with my Yamanaka jutsu, but he's in too deep for my rudimentary abilities to reach. I also spoke with great-aunt, but she doesn't think I'd been able to help with the coma even if I'm not experienced. There's a whole lot of stuff that goes along with one that Kyu's body and mind need to work out their own.
Also killed the bastard that hurt Kyu. He was a missing-nin, a Leaf Chuunin. He had it coming to him. Betraying the village. Aiding the enemy. Hurting my student. I'd kill him over and over again if I could. But it didn't really make me feel better and it didn't really help Kyu, so I guess that it's best that he stays dead. I need all my energy spent towards healing Kyu.
Still lots going on with Zori. It's getting tiredsome.
Friday 03/30/13 A.F.
I should have mentioned that Tatsuo's been living with me and grandmother for a few weeks now. It all happened when I was wandering around at night and ended up in the Nara section of the village. I was just going to watch the stars from one of the rooftops, but some commotion caught my attention. A boy was arguing with his father and the boy ran into the woods, but not before I recognized him as Tatsuo. Turned out that his father is a very, very, very hateful man. He told me all kinds of horror stories. So now, his father's not allowed to contact Tatsuo anymore. There's also guards around my house and keeping tabs on his father to make sure that his father doesn't try to establish contact.
It didn't work as well as I hoped. Tatsuo went training at the lake one night and his father caused trouble. This man really is the most hateful person ever. He rustled up three of his Nara lackeys to track Tatsuo down and was in the process of hurting his own son when I arrived with Atsuro-senpai and Taizen-senpai. Luckily, we stopped them, but not before Tatsuo's father claimed that he'd make a better Jounin Commander and tried to kill Atsuro-senpai. He's going to be staying in jail for a very long time. Forever would be even better.
Things are quieter with Zori, now that I'm treating his condition.
Tuesday 04/17/13 A.F.
Ok… things AREN'T quiet with Zori. So I say that I've been treating him. Basically, he did something really bad that landed him in jail again almost two months ago. Things were kind of desperate, so I worked many many hours to try to find a way to curb his problem. I eventually developed a pill that can counteract his psychosis. It seemed to work, medicine interacts strangely with Zori's body. The first set made him so sleepy that he had a much harder time functioning, which isn't good for a shinobi. So I came up with a second recipe, which worked much better. He was able to go on missions and even see blood without turning into a maniac. But then, it turns out that the pills are giving him some memory loss. He ended up doing something else because of that and now he has guards following him all over the place. I just made a third batch of pills that might work better, but the ingredients are a bit addictive. If this doesn't work, I don't know what to do. Atsuro-senpai said that he feels there's something seriously wrong with Zori's personality that goes beyond the psychotic episodes. I hope that's not true.
Friday 04/27/13 A.F.
It's strange how much of my work revolves around Zori. Hige sent me a message today, asking me to clear my schedule to go on a journey with him. This immediately told me that I had to prepare for a mission, since that's the only thing I can think of that's urgent enough to require me to drop my work and head out of Konoha. It turns out that Hige had a lead on the shinobi that posed as a Jounin and slaughtered Zori's friends all those years back. The lead itself is less of a piece of information and more of a person. I helped Hige and Konsho track the man down, but the whole situation left me a little uncomfortable. After we subdued him, there was a bit of interrogating involved. I'm terrible at that type of thing, mostly because I don't like that type of information gathering at all. Thankfully, not much interrogating was needed. I hope that Hige doesn't keep bringing me on this type of mission.
Monday 05/07/13 A.F.
More Zori trouble today. The boy just won't stop causing problems. By this point, it's very clear that medication won't solve the main issue. Zori is just… Zori. He's worse when he's not medicated, but even a fully medicated Zori is going to be ten times more trouble than your average Genin. He attempted to do something very unwise during a spar against a weaker opponent AGAIN, so Hige had to take him down. This meant that I had to spend more of my time fixing him up afterwards. I'm giving up all hope that I can actually make a real difference when it comes to Zori. The solution has to come from somewhere else and it'll have to be something severe enough to knock him back into the straight path.
Sunday 05/13/13 A.F.
The good thing about being a medic is that I get to help people in need. That's the main reason I decided very early to follow in my family's footsteps, not because it's something that's expected of me. Grandmother would have been encouraging even if I decided to take another path. The bad thing about being a medic is the risk that I'd fail to help someone. That usually results in disappointment (on the low end of the rung) all the way up to loss of life (on the top end).
Hige's always had trouble molding chakra. He's unable to do it efficiently and that causes problems whenever he uses a chakra-based jutsu. Half of his arsenal consist of chakra-based jutsu. It's impressive that he reached the rank of Jounin despite this handicap. Recent diagnostic procedures revealed that a big part of the problem lies with his chakra network itself. There are severe blockages that can't be overcome no matter how much he trains. I'm one of the few medics on staff that's qualified to do corrective surgery. I performed the first today, but it'll take at least a half dozen. We won't know for sure whether the surgery will help until all of them are complete and Hige has a few weeks beyond that to recover. This is one of the times when I hope very hard not to disappoint a patient.
Friday 06/15/13 A.F.
I'm finally back in Konoha! It's like a nice, cool drink after wandering around a desert for days. I was deployed on a mission right after I recovered from the last major surgery that I gave Hige, so it's over three weeks since I saw the village. I don't like to take missions that keeps me away from home so long, but this one was very important. Word came in that a group of enemy shinobi might be creating biological weapons that could potentially be used against Konoha. A threat like that had to be addressed immediately and at least one medic had to be part of the team. It took over a week of searching alone to identify the enemy hideout. Coming with a plan to safely subdue the group and carrying it out took almost another week. Then, there was the tricky issue of figuring out what to do with the weapons that we found. Weapons like that had to be handled very carefully. They even have to be destroyed carefully. I'm just glad that the mission went so smoothly. Now, back to my other work.
Monday 07/02/13 A.F.
Great news! Enough time passed that Hige's chakra network has a chance to heal up, so I gave him a checkup earlier today. I was so worried that the surgery I performed didn't clear up his problems. The last thing that I wanted was to disappoint him. Luckily, this latest checkup showed that all the blockages and tangled pathways remain gone even after all this time. That's not always the case. All the work that I put into that surgery wasn't a waste. I don't think that Hige will ever be as efficient as a lot of other Jounin with the same amount of experience, but my observations says that he's going to be at least average. That's much better than he originally was, so I consider this a huge success.
Sunday 07/08/13 A.F.
Today feels unreal to me. Today -can't- be a real day. Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai and I had to escort the Suna delegation to Hokage-sama's office for an important meeting. This delegation consists of Arika-chan, Jori-kun and Ping-san, whom I all know. One of these three also turns out to be the Jinchuuriki of the Eight Tailed Bijuu and temporary my student in the medical arts while she's in Konoha. That's already strange enough for any dream. Continuing on, the reason for the meeting is that Hokage-sama received an invitation to Kazekage-sama's wedding. I also was given an impromptu one by the delegation a few days ago… so maybe it's not just today that's some kind of odd dream. Maybe the entire week is. But to cap it all, Hokage-sama asked me to stay behind… and then promoted me to Jounin. That's so wrong. I don't deserve a promotion at all. That's for more competent shinobi. Someone needs to pinch me awake before anything even stranger happens, like a rain of tadpoles.
Sunday 07/29/13 A.F.
This is proving to be a month of good news! (But I still hold that my promotion to Jounin is a fluke and Hokage-sama will take it back any day now.) Not only is Team Lunar welcoming a new member in the form of Satonezu Daichi, but the very first member of the team is finally with us again! That's right! Kyu woke from his coma. I'm so relieved and happy. His vital signs remained stable throughout these last few months, but his condition lasted long enough that my hope was beginning to dwindle. A lot of my people never wake up after this length of time. Luckily, he proved that my fears have no basis. He's showing us just how strong he is in body and will. It's still going to be a long road ahead. Kyu's weak and he needs therapy to return to how he was, but I know that we'll get there as long as we work together.
Saturday 08/11/13 A.F.
The previous month of good news is followed by something terrible less than two weeks into the current month. I was hoping that the streak will continue, but that's too much to expect. Ikari-chan recently revealed to me that her father gave her the first of the Akimichi's secret pills, the Curry Pill, to hold on to for emergencies. I don't actually know much about these pills, so I did some research. What I found was minimal, since details about the pill is clan restricted information, but all the scant information clearly says that it's dangerous for someone of her age to use the Curry Pill. The temporary power boost that it can give is extremely taxing on the user's body. Unfortunately, Ikari-chan was forced to take the pill only a few days our talk. She went on a mission where it was a choice between getting killed by the enemy or risking death by the Curry Pill's side effects. I think that she made the right choice, even though she had to spend a few days healing at the hospital afterwards and things were dicey at the beginning. I just hope that she doesn't have to make this choice again anytime soon.
Tuesday 09/11/13 A.F.
One of the perks to being a Jounin seems to be the ability to sponsor lower ranked shinobi for traveling. At least, Hokage-sama didn't come yell at me when I filled out such a request for Daichi. But that might be because the request was pretty reasonable. Having Daichi travel to Kumo for special training for three weeks to a month is something that could benefit him, and Konoha, in the long run. It probably also helped that he'll be escorted there by the Raikage's wife. Thankfully, that means I don't have to worry that he'll get kidnapped by bandits along the way. If anyone can protect him, it'd be Sachiko-san. I can't wait to see how much Daichi improved when he gets back.
Friday 09/21/13 A.F.
My team and another have recently run across cases of normal animals becoming aggressive and exhibiting powerful chakra usage during missions. This is a great oddity, since these animals aren't nin-animals, yet they somehow manage to instinctive perform jutsu that's challenging for many shinobi. The cause was unknown for several weeks, but I finally know why after testing blood samples from a few affected specimens. Both Tatsuo and Kyu gave me great help with this.
It looks like the culprit is a virus that infects and rewrites the DNA of animals that it comes into contact with. The virus is highly contagious, but seems to have a very short life cycle, since it dies after moving through only a few hosts. I'm highly suspicious that the virus isn't naturally occurring. It must be engineered by a highly skilled medic or scientist, since the same virus can mutate to infect at least ten different types animals, just by being drawn from one and injected into another. Oddly, it becomes completely inert when introduced to human blood. I can't tell more without additional samples. Things have been quiet, but I'm afraid that it won't stay that way if the virus is still circulating out there.
Thursday 10/11/13 A.F.
I had the strangest day ever. Atsuro-senpai has invited me to go to spas with him several times, but today is the first time I agreed to it. I wasn't sure what to expect and that probably helped, because the experience defied expectations. Apparently, people spend entire days at the spa not doing anything except lying around. That seems so unproductive. Sometimes, they do that while wrapped up in towels and slathered with a honey-milk concoction. That's what Atsuro-senpai and I did today. It's supposed to be a very healthy treatment for the skin, which sounds about right, since both milk and honey have lots of skin nourishing components. Thankfully, we didn't actually just lie around when we did this. I convinced Atsuro-senpai to give me a pop quiz throughout the entire time, so it was at least slightly productive. I'll make sure to bring some paperwork along the next time we go to the spa.
Sunday 10/20/13 A.F.
I kind of feel like I'm getting all the difficult and important surgeries these days. Obviously, Taiki-sama must be handling a lot of important surgeries too, but I'm definitely becoming more involved in the rarer types. First, Hige had me reroute all the bad sections of his chakra network. Now, Eremi came to me specifically to help him with a very difficult medical conundrum. This type of issue doesn't occur more than once every generation, which makes it an even rarer case than what I did for Hige. There's not much information on how the procedure can be performed successfully. I feel like it's something that requires Taiki-sama levels of expertise and seniority to manage, but Eremi had more confidence in me than I do. Thankfully, it doesn't look like I messed things up.
Thursday 10/25/13 A.F.
Tonight was a big moment for Tatsuo and I nearly missed it. But I think he intended it that way, which actually isn't a good thing. Tatsuo has been known to stay out all night training until he's tired to the bones, so I was a little concerned when he didn't show up for dinner. Luckily, it wasn't very hard to track him down, since he usually visit the same few locations most of the time. I found him at one of his favorite clearings in Toshiba forest working with Isobu's chakra like he often does these days.
While I decided whether I should interrupt him or not, I saw his Bijuu cloak envelop him and coalesce completely into a miniature version of Isobu. I know that he's every bit as talented as Takeo was, possibly more talented, which means that he'd eventually learn how to manifest Isobu in the flesh. I really do know that… when I think logically. But emotionally, a part of me still considers this manifestation one of Takeo's ability, something unique that made Takeo… well, Takeo. Maybe this means I never fully came to terms with Takeo's death and it's time that I did. Tatsuo's the one that needs me now and I have to work hard to not fail him the same way that I failed Takeo.
Wednesday 10/31/13 A.F.
It seems that all my students are destined for greatness. Tatsuo is the host of Isobu. Kyu is quickly becoming one of the best genjutsu users that the Uchiha clan ever produced. Shinobu-chan is likewise the same for the Inuzuka Clan. Now Daichi. He came up to me today to inform me that Eremi agreed to start training him in the Eight Gates technique. This is powerful, but dangerous kinjutsu, so I'm naturally worried. At the same time, I've seen how hard Daichi works. I know he has both the physical and mental fortitude to succeed despite the high failure rate. Out of all my students, he's probably the least reckless. This is proven by the fact that he approached me to tell me about his new training and that he promised without prompting to only practice when either Eremi or I'm overseeing him. I couldn't be more proud!
Thursday 11/29/13 A.F.
It's a long time since I've been so upset and angry. I was making some breakthroughs in my research lately, specifically research concerning the virus that's turning normal animals into chakra wielding ones. I also finished compiling a list of Leaf shinobi that might be the "naturalist" that went missing from the last spot where mutated animal were spotted. Since that naturalist disappeared on the night the killer archerfish infested the river, his or her identify could hold some important clues for this investigation. I have a feeling this "naturalist" could be the originator of the virus.
Unfortunately, a group of people broke into the hospital and destroyed my work in a single coordinated effort. They hit the laboratory, the animal holding pens AND my office at the same time. They'd have gotten away with it too if Atsuro-senpai didn't happen to drop by my office to look for me. He wasn't able to save the research notes in my office, and many sentimental mementos, but he still made important discoveries. First, the intruders were medic-nin. Second, they were all clones of a single person. Third, he has the scent now and would recognize it if he comes upon the person again. The culprit is in for a rude surprise once we find out who he is. He has no idea I keep backup copies of my work at home either…
Tuesday 12/04/13 A.F.
Another interesting medical problem came my way today. This time, an entire delegation from Kumo lead by Michiko-san came along with it. They've actually been here for a few weeks already and Michiko-san spoke to me several times, but it's the first chance I got to inspect the patient directly. This patient in question is Rise-san, whom I've met, but don't know well. Her situation reminds me slightly of Akane-san's, the medic from Kiri. It involves multiple minds in one body, except that the second mind in this case is assembled from many mental fragments from an outside source.
As a Yamanaka I was able to probe her mentally to sense where the problematic areas are, but I'm not nearly skilled enough to give treatment. On the other hand, there's also a malfunctioning seal imprinted on Rise-san that might be related. That's something I could work on after enough study, but I wasn't given the chance. It seems that my diagnostic work is enough to satisfy Michiko-san and Rise-san for now. They're heading back to Kumo within the next few day and I hope they find a cure. In the meanwhile, I better work harder on learning the Yamanaka hidenjustu in case I have to handle more situations like this.
Sunday 12/30/13 A.F.
Another day, another successful surgery. This one's more delicate than usual, but not as bad as what I had to do for Eremi. I might have mentioned before that Tsuchiri-san has contracted a bad case of cancer due to her usage of Hoshigakure's special techniques. This metabolized throughout her body and also caused some damage to her chakra network. As a result, I just spent hours working on her with the help of Tatsuo, Kyu and even Daichi (my grunt work assistant during surgery).
The procedure was very complicated. The first step involved sending a cocktail of poisons into her body to seek out and destroy cancerous growths, which I had to regulate manually. Imagine manipulating thousands of streamers of poison at once. This was made more difficult by the fact that Tsuchiri-san's pregnant, so I had to work them around her womb to avoid causing injury to the baby. Afterwards, repairs had to be made to her chakra network. This included removing toxic chakra from it. That was much more complicated.
I can't guarantee that Tsuchiri-san's cured forever. There'll be more episodes of cancer in the future as long as she continues to use Hoshigakure's hidenjutsu, but at least she's ok for now.
Tuesday 01/15/14 A.F.
It feels like I've trained enough medics to start my own clinic by now. Some of them aren't beyond the point of simple medical procedures, but they're still proficient enough to handle moderate injuries and to help more experienced medics at complicated surgeries. The surgery that I performed on Tsuchiri proved that they're at least that good. Now, I have another student to add to the roster. Katsumi is a Yamanaka just like me, except a legitimate one. I'm technically a bastard Yamanaka. Or my mom's one, so that makes me one too, right? Ok, that's not relevant. Anyway, it looks like Katsumi's another promising one. She seems to be more interested in chemistry and seals than the rest of them, so her focus in medical training is probably going to be the most like mine out of all my students. I'm kind of looking forward to that.
Tuesday 01/22/14 A.F.
I don't know why missions I lead have such a tendency to go wrong. It's not that we tend to fail those missions, but that the unexpected happen much more than in missions lead by other people. This time, the mission was to bring a cart full of goods to the Land of Tea. I had some good shinobi with me - Daichi, Shinobu-chan and Kame-chan. It was kind of expected that we might get attacked by bandits after the goods. What was unexpected is for two powerful flying shinobi to show up and try to kidnap Shinobu-chan. They completely ignored the cart, even after all of us had to abandon it to try to rescue Shinobu-chan. The only reason I can think of the focus on her instead of the cart is that they're remnants of those evil youth army members that enslaved her in the past. It's a good thing that we managed to rescue her, but we're still going to have to do some digging around after the mission to make sure that the danger's over.
Friday 02/08/14 A.F.
Team Lunar has been going through some changes lately. I've seen members come and members go in other teams, but never thought it'd happen to my own. Hikaru hasn't really been able to join us for missions in a long time. Other matters take his attention. As a result, I had to remove him from the team. Hopefully, he'll find another good one once he handles his current obligations. I know that I'll write him a good review if he ever needs one. Kaido-san's team disbanded recently due to unknown reasons, so I was able to replace Hikaru pretty easily with Tatsuo. This is an expected chance, since Tatsuo had been asking about joining Team Lunar even before Kaido-san's team disbanded. Shinobu-chan inquired about joining as well, even though there's four people now. We're going to have to figure out how to handle that, assuming we go ahead with it.
Thursday 03/21/14 A.F.
Yet another interesting medical case came to me today. I'm losing count of how many there are at this point. I'm not going to name names this time. The patient was brought me by Hige. The patient entered a comatose state after sparring with Hige, but it wasn't really physical damage that's the problem. It turned out that he has two mysterious seals integrated into his chakra network. The first one was a suppression seal that wore away with time and became defunct during the spar. Whatever it's supposed to be suppressing must be linked to the patient's mind, since the coma was caused by him being trapped within some kind of inner nightmare. Unfortunately, his body still had the ability to react in dangerous ways, so Hige and I had to subdue him while I tried to identify the problem. I have a feeling that the second seal is involved somehow. Its purpose is hard to decipher, but I did find a reference to it in the patient's medical record. The details is classified, so I didn't actually learn much. Luckily, the name of the person who performed that particular procedure is in the records too, so there's a starting point for follow up.
Saturday 03/23/14 A.F.
It took a lot of work, but I think I finally developed something that can disable that virus I've been talking about all this time. It's a good thing that things have been quiet, since it took suck a long time. Tatsuo and I worked most of today at the lab testing out the various antidotes and vaccines. Only one really worked as well with decent efficiency, but it's still not nearly as good as it needs to be yet. The important part is that now I have a base to build on. It should be much easier to take the winner and improve upon it than to try creating additional new solutions from scratch. Once I have it working to my satisfaction, the next step is to figure out how to apply it safely to rampaging animals. I have a few ideas about that right now. One of them involves Tatsuo's expertise with water manipulation.
Thursday 04/04/14 A.F.
I don't think anyone will believe this… Hokage-sama is my newest medical student. No, definitely no one will believe this. I mean, it's a silly idea that Hokage-sama would ever need anyone to teach him anything. Well, except maybe medical ninjutsu, since that's a very specialized field. But I think that the more important point is that even if he need want to learn medical ninjutsu, Taiki-sama would make a far better teacher. He must of had very bad luck tracking down his first few choices, because I'm pretty sure that I would barely make the top twenty list. It's one thing for me to be teaching lots of lower ranked shinobi, even very talented ones like Kyu and Tatsuo. Hokage-sama is completely different from that. My brain kind of stopped working for a second when he came into my office and asked me about it. I did try my best to provide him with a list of books to start with and worked on a small exercise with him, but I feel like I must have made a big fool of myself. Hopefully, it wasn't too much of a fool…
Sunday 04/07/14 A.F.
Not a lot of people know this, but I've been helping Atsuro-senpai and Taizen-senpai with house hunting during the last few weeks. We packed away a lot of their furniture and clothing at the current apartment already, even though they haven't finalized anything yet. Atsuro-senpai even donated a lot of his nice clothing to charity, including some silk button-downs and kimonos. Is there anyone in the city that's more generous than him?
Anyway, we found two promising places so far. One is a huge condo in a nice building within Inuzuka village. It's very expensive, but it has a great view, three terraces, an enormous master bedroom, walk-in closet, kitchen, guest rooms and just about anything else you want in a high class condo. Atsuro-senpai's not completely sold on it though. The second is a house in my neighborhood. It's a little more expensive, but it's actually much bigger and more private. It's three stories, surrounded by a huge yard and a high stone wall. There's a private pool, an inner courtyard, fruit trees and other amenities that Atsuro-senpai seem to like. I kind of hope that he pick this place over the condo, because it'll be nice to have him live closer to me.
Sunday 05/05/14 A.F.
Today's a day for terrible news. It's the worst news I've received in years. Kyu has gone missing. I knew that he hasn't been around for a while, but that's not uncommon. Even those of us that are part of a team often get sent on missions without each other. When we're not on a mission, we're often so busy that we don't have time to meet. I thought that it's one of these two things, but this turned out to not be the case.
I received this news from Hokage-sama and Kurome-sama. Kyu was visiting the Land of Tea, but disappeared after he was seen speaking to an unknown girl. There's no sign of him leaving or traveling anywhere… He just vanished into thin air. I know that Kyu would never run off on his own, so someone MUST have kidnapped him. Maybe that girl. I know that some of the other Jounin have doubts, but I know my own student better than they do. The village is too important for him to abandon willingly. Hige's going to send the best of the Inuzuka Clan's trackers to search for him. I'm going to pray that we find him sooner, because who knows what'll happen to Kyu if we don't…
Tuesday 05/14/14 A.F.
We did it! We finally captured Shu-sama's grandson and put a stop to his experiments! It was a stroke of luck that his lair was found at all, mainly because he got sloppy. It turns out that the bioengineered animals that he was creating were being sold on the black market to all kinds of nasty people and some of those customers had information. This was lucky for us, because one of the bandit groups that a team of our shinobi took down recently just happened buy a fire breathing dog from him recently.
Thankfully, apprehending him wasn't hard once we had the location. Atsuro-senpai and Taizen-senpai are more than a match for him without the handicap of being separated and having to fight in tight confines. Tatsuo was the secret weapon on the team, because he was able to use the antidote I created along with his water manipulation skills to neutralize the mutated animals that we fought. Now, our culprit's safely in jail, I've treated all the remaining animals to make them safe again and Tatsuo brought home a new pet turtle. I'm not sure where we're going to put the turtle yet.
Thursday 05/30/14 A.F.
I have a new student. I know that's actually a very common announcement coming from me, but things are actually different this time. My new student isn't a nascent medic, but a novice of the Yamanaka hidenjutsu instead. This is actually a very strange twist of events for me. I'm slowly improving in the clan techniques and I actually know more than most practicing Yamanaka by now, hard as that is to believe. Despite that, I don't feel like I'm ready to be someone's sensei yet. The main reason why I accepted is because this new student of mine doesn't want to approach the clan directly. He's a Yamanaka by birth and his stepfather's also a Yamanaka, but he grew up away from the clan and doesn't really feel that much a part of it. That's something that I understand, given how late I discovered my own ties. Maybe I'll be able to convince him to make contact with others once I start training him.
Tuesday 06/11/14 A.F.
It took more than a month, but we finally located Kyu. I'm not really celebrating yet, because the situation's complicated. It turns out that he WAS kidnapped by that girl, but she convinced him afterwards to follow her willingly… to the Land of Water. Somehow, she convinced him that he's in love with her. I'm not ruling out the use of genjutsu or drugs, but I think Kyu's experienced enough as a genjutsu user and a medic to recognize both by now. As much as I hate to admit it, I think this debacle is partially a cause of his own stupidity. I mean, agreeing to abandon one's village to follow a girl that kidnapped you, so that you live with her in an enemy village…
What this means is that Kurome-sama, Hige, Konsho, Kizoku, Daichi and me had to travel into enemy territory to retrieve him. We also had to confront a Kiri kunochi from the Shimizu clan at the end of the journey. The encounter didn't actually end badly, since Kyu proved that he's still loyal to Konoha at heart and he was allowed to leave unmolested due to that. That made him undesirable to Kiri after all, who apparently thought they were getting a valuable defector that wanted to completely cut all ties. Now, we just have the daunting task of traveling out of the Land of Water and hope we don't get into any scuffles. That same Kiri kunochi as escorting us, because she doesn't want us to accidentally start any wars. I'm not going to enjoy this.
Monday 06/24/14 A.F.
I didn't really see it coming, but it's not a surprise either. Kyu has been removed from Team Lunar as part of his punishment for the bad decisions that he made recently. It's not the only punishment that he's receiving, but he still got off easily overall. Things could have been much worse. I'm mainly mentioning this particular piece of the whole because it has the most effect on me, as the captain of Team Lunar. I've been worried about the bloat problem that my team faced, being a team of five instead of four, but this wasn't one of the solutions that I gave serious thought too. I guess the fact that it fell out this way is a mixed blessing, this would arguably make Team Lunar more balanced again in terms of size at the cost of losing a skilled Uchiha that's both a genjutsu specialist and a medic-nin. I still wish that this isn't the result of wrongdoing by one of my students. Nothing to be done now.
Wednesday 07/24/14 A.F.
I've been thinking a lot about Team Lunar's future over the last month. Things haven't really been going to well for the team. Kyu's removal by Kurome-sama was only the first sign of problems, even though the removal was related to other issues. I feel like the team is drifting apart. We haven't worked together on a mission in months. I don't even remember when was the last time that I had a chance to train with Daichi and Shinobu. It's different with Tatsuo, since he lives with me and we see each other every day. On the other hand, while Daichi and Shinobu are almost always together, that isn't often together with me and Tatsuo. We've all tried hard to make that happen, but it's almost like that's getting more and more difficult to accomplish. Maybe it's time to disband the team or to pass leadership to someone else. I'm going to have to think some more on this before I make a decision.
Wednesday 08/07/14 A.F.
Girls are so very strange. Or maybe it's just this Akasuki girl. Maybe I should take a step back first. About two weeks ago, Atsuro-senpai and I visited the Market. We were enjoying some spicy foods when the girl that I just mentioned came out of nowhere and headbutted the metal garbage can next to us. It knocked her unconscious and gave her a mild concussion. I went off to get her a little water while Atsuro-senpai watched her, but was sidetracked by an even more urgent issue.
I ran into this girl again today and tried to check up on her condition. I also wanted to apologize for having to run off before I finished treating her last time, but I never got a chance. At least I don't think I did, since things happened very quickly. Akasuki-san started yelling at me almost immediately and told me that she disliked me despite not really knowing me. There was something about her being in love with Atsuro-senpai and wanted to confess, but I was always around to keep her doing it. She also seemed upset that she finally had the chance while Atsuro-senpai was watching over her at the Market and he rejected her. I think she was trying to say that part was my fault too. I'm not sure I understand how it is.
This girl is just so strange.
Sunday 08/11/14 A.F.
Atsuro-senpai asked for my attendance as a medic while he gave Hige a lesson on the Shadow Clone jutsu. It's Hige's first time working on the jutsu, so accidents were more likely to happen. It's very easy to exhaust one's chakra and even cause system shock when training due to the nature of Shadow Clones. Thankfully, Hige did very well on this first try. He's usually too impulsive, but he seemed to understand how important it is to go easy when learning how to create Shadow Clones.
This reminded me of the same lesson that Atsuro-senpai gave me years ago, so I tried to make a Shadow Clone too. I had progressed to a reasonable degree back then before other training took priority. Unfortunately, the long lapse in between has caused my skill to degrade. The Shadow Clone that I made was only half my size. It also fell down immediately and couldn't move. That was very embarrassing. I think I'll resume my training, which I shouldn't have put off for so long in the first place.
Monday 08/27/14 A.F.
I'm really getting sick of all these Jinchuuriki kidnapping attempts. It seems that there's always someone that wants a Bijuu and is willing to kill people to get one. I remember when it happened to Takeo. It was one of the worse moments of my life to see him stolen away like that. I vowed that I'd never let the same thing happen to Tatsuo, but I also hoped that I won't have to deal with such a situation in the first place. It looks like my hopes are dashed, because the first of those attempts occurred just recently.
Tatsuo, Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai and me went on a mission to help a village with river flooding issues. That turned out to be a trap, because the villagers were actually shinobi and the village we were supposed to help was a fake. Thankfully, we weren't fooled by them and managed to either kill or capture all the culprits. Unfortunately, they were only lackeys. That means we have to investigate to find the source. Let's hope that turns out well…
Thursday 09/12/14 A.F.
I thought about it and I'm not going to dissolve Team Lunar yet. There are always ups and downs when it comes to team performance. It's true that we haven't worked together on a mission for a while and that we haven't been seeing each other as much as usual, but I don't think it's bad enough to warrant dissolving the team. I'll wait longer to see how things go. It's already looking up a little. Tatsuo lives and works with me, so there's no problem there. I've been helping Daichi train over the last month or so, more than usual. Shinobu-chan and Kame-chan are busy training with Taiki-sama, but we did manage to meet a few times. I'm crossing my fingers.
Sunday 10/06/14 A.F.
Some people need to be killed. Foremost are traitors to the Leaf that try to kidnap Tatsuo. We finally discovered who set up that kidnapping attempt a while back, but only because the culprit managed to kidnap Tatsuo for real. We discovered while interrogating a prisoner that a member of Isobu's sealing team is the leader of the conspiracy, but not who it is. This same traitor also killed all the other prisoners besides the one we were interrogating while we were busy. Atsuro-senpai, Taizen-senpai, Tatsuo and I rushed to the archives in fear that any document pertaining to the sealing team would be targetted… and we were right. Someone had replaced that file and placed an explosive trap in its place. We barely managed to prevent the trap from damaging the archive. And that's when this seal master kidnapped Tatsuo from under our nose. It was only with Hokage-sama's help that we learned the full identity of this traitor and tracked him down. There was a big battle at the village gates, which led to Isobu and Tatsuo merging fully for the first time in order to overcome the traitor.
Thursday 10/10/14 A.F.
There's always some terrorist group making trouble. It's only a few days after the Tatsuo incident and now there's another. Some group called the Storm Brigade… or something with Storm… I forget… is systematically destroying villages in each of the lands. Hige and Shugo were part of a team that tried to stop their latest act of terrorism, which occurred in the Land of Fire. Hige was so gravely injured that he was near death when they brought him back to Konoha. A group of medics tried to perform emergency surgery on him. When that failed, I was called in. It took the use of my most powerful healing jutsu to revive him and that was still a very close call. Going to have to find a way to keep him in the hospital, so that he won't try running after those criminals while he can barely walk.
Saturday 11/09/14 A.F.
Some things are too terrible to put in words alone. Describing them is no use, because they must be experienced personally for anyone to understand the degree of horror they instill. I watched Taiki-sama, Nozomi-sama and Shinobu-sama die recently. It was only for a few seconds, but that was some of the worst few seconds I've experienced up till now. This wasn't part of an accident either, but a deliberate attempt at murder by the leader of the Storm Brigade during a joint assault by Konoha and Kumo on the Storm Brigade compound. There's few things worse than to seeing someone you look up to get cut down in the midst of battle. This is the first time I used Bulwark of Heaven to revive someone and I'm grateful that I put all the work I did into developing it. I don't know what I would have done if we'd lost the three of them. Now, we just have to make sure that this Kano, the leader of the Storm Brigade, faces justice for his crimes, including the attempted murder of the Inuzuka Clan's Alpha. He's securely subdued and being transported to Konoha right now.
Thursday 11/21/14 A.F.
It's a disaster! Taiki-sama sent a commendation letter to Hokage-sama and Atsuro-senpai… regarding me! I thought that it was all a mistake, but Atsuro-senpai and I spoke to Taiki-sama and he said that it wasn't. Then, there was all this talk about how well I did during the Storm Brigade assault. Something about me I reviving him from the dead, protecting weaker shinobi from enemy attacks and tended a lot of injuries… I don't remember doing all of that. I mean, things were pretty hectic and I really was working hard, but I'd still remember if I did all that, right? Besides, the more that I think of it, the less convinced I am that Taiki-sama, Nozomi-sama and Shinobu-sama were actually dead. Maybe they were just deeply unconscious when I healed them. Taiki-sama gave this strange look when I brought that up, but maybe he's just misremembering about being not-dead too, right? I really wish that he had written a commendation letter for someone else. There's so many more deserving…
Wednesday 11/27/14 A.F.
Things aren't very good in Konoha right now. The police station is destroyed and Kano is dead. We were wrong to think that the Storm Brigade threat is over because we subdied so much of their core forces and captured their leader. Akane-san's husband brought a small entourage from Kiri to retrieve her from her stay at Konoha after she performed a favor for us. It turns out that one of the trusted shinobi he brought with him is also a high ranking member of the Storm Brigade. This shinobi used Ishino-san's visit as a screen to cover illicit Storm Brigade movement into the Land of Fire. The result was a lot of dead people, diplomatic headaches with Kiri and the loss of a source of information in Kano. It's only a bittersweet development that outrage at being used caused Kiri to join the fight against the Storm Brigade.
Friday 11/29/14 A.F.
Things are still pretty tense in Konoha. There's a lot of angry people and clean up is still being done. So many people were killed that it's going to leave a big mark on the village for a long time. I've been preparing for further attacks in the few ways that I can… stockpiling medicine, making more tags, training harder… These are all activities that I normally enjoy, but it still leaves me mentally exhausted knowing that I'm working harder mainly because Konoha is in serious danger again. Tatsuo and I took a small break to design a new enclosure for his pet sea turtle today. This doesn't help the village in any way, but I found that I needed this as a break from constantly thinking about the Storm Brigade situation. It's good to have a little normalcy for a few hours.
Tuesday 12/28/14 A.F.
In a strange turn of events, there's a new long term guest staying at my house! This guest is the most fascinating one I ever had. This mainly because he's from a place that no one (or very few people) have ever heard of… and he's also not human. Biwa-san is a nin-butterfly from the Flowering Fruit Valley, a place so secret that it's only possible for outsiders to get there with the help of one of its reclusive residents. Biwa-san said that the special chakra of the Moonwing clan is needed to open the passage and members leave the valley so rarely that no outsider has visited in decades or more. It's a wonderful place of lush plantlife and filled with amazing giant insects, but it can also be dangerous. Tatsuo and I actually found Biwa-san fleeing from these manticore flies - spider-scorpion-dragonfly-things - that managed to follow him through a special passage into the Land of Fire. Biwa-san became very lost as a result of this, but we're going to help him find his way home for sure.
Saturday 01/18/15 A.F.
Biwa-san has been living with us for a while now and I have to say that he's a wonderful house guest. Even though he's basically a giant insect, he has the courtesy of the most polite humans I've ever known. He's fun try out foods with too… well, mainly sweet foods. His diet is based solely around various simple and complex sugars, so I've been making a habit of introducing at least one version of sugary foods that he hasn't tried at our evening meals. He's been enjoying the process so much that he told me he wants to try out every single sugary item in the outside world, no matter how long it takes. Really, the only problem with his visit is that I can't get him to leave the house at all. He's not used to having so many humans around, so he always gets nervous and rush back indoors as soon as he passes the exit. We'll work on this!
Monday 03/03/15 A.F.
Things seem to be heating up with the fight against the Storm Brigade again. Kumo representatives came to Konoha to speak to Atsuro-senpai and me only a few days ago about the kidnapping of Michiko-san, which wasn't something that I'd expect. Michiko-san is almost as strong as Atsuro-senpai, so the fact that the Storm Brigade managed to take her is a bad sign.
Just today, I also found out that Kyu was kidnapped again, also by the Storm Brigade. It's impossible to track him this time, so I'm not sure how we'll find him. It's a mystery why they'd take him instead of Noab-san, who was with him at the time it happened. It could be because of his Sharingan, but I feel like there's something deeper than that going on.
Sunday 04/20/15 A.F.
The situation with the Storm Brigade continued to be unstable throughout the last few weeks. Many of the kidnapped victims still couldn't be found. We can just hope that they're being kept alive, so that there's still a chance to get them back. Additional news came out of Kumo today about the kidnappings of two more ranking shinobi too. Their strategy might be working if it's their intention to weaken our forces by picking off the strongest first.
This whole situation has made me wonder how many more of these super powerful shinobi and their armies will come out of the woodworks before the world can have peace. The Recluse, the Silence, and now the Storm Brigade… Are they all connected? How is it that we never know about groups like these and their Kage strength leaders until it's much too late to avert disaster? Why do all our protections and measures always fail against these groups, no matter how much we improve them?
At least Biwa-san doesn't seem too upset about staying at my place longer. There hasn't been much time to finalize the expedition to help him get home.
Wednesday 05/27/15 A.F.
The Storm Brigade has finally been broken! That's the news that I heard on everyone's lips today… at work, at the Ramen House, at the training grounds… everywhere. This comes as such a relief, since so much damage has already been done by this group over the last few months. Most, if not all, of the kidnapping victims will be able to return to their homes. Our villages will be safe again for a while longer.
My biggest worry is that the remnants of the Storm Brigade are still out there. The group is no longer strong enough to threaten the world, but many of the escaped members are well trained on their own. They might cause trouble in the future unless each and every one of them is hunted down. They could be the seeds to a dozen more Storm Brigades, Silences and Recluses in the decades to come. I hope that fear will prove to be false.
Sunday 06/01/15 A.F.
I feel like I perform surgery and healing on Kiri-nin surprisingly often. Well, it's not THAT often, but it must happen at least once every year. That's a lot considering the relation that village has with Konoha. I guess that Kiji-san might not count as a Kiri-nin anymore. She's technically a missing-nin from Kirigakure. She apparently tried to kill several high ranking shinobi there, including the current Mizukage. That completely explains the wounds that she showed up with. Her back was peeled open like an orange and that wasn't even the worst thing I had to handle. It was her chakra network that was the most messed up. It was so damaged (due constant wearing of chakra repressing manacles during her capture by the Storm Brigade according to her) that I'm surprised she managed to survive a major confrontation like that. I had to rebuild a pretty significant portion of it. Light duty and lots of rest for the next few days.
Thursday 06/05/15 A.F.
Taiki-sama look me off light duty and made me take a few days off entirely. I tried to tell him that I'm fine, but I don't think he believed me for some reason. Sure, I couldn't move very fast without getting slightly lightheaded and I get tired quicker than usual, but that's just normal side effects from performing that surgery on Kiji-san. I've been recovering at a pretty reasonable rate aside from that. Maybe I should have waited another day before I visited Taiki-sama. I wanted to make sure that he's OK, since he sequestered himself in his office along with Tatara-sama a few days ago for a dangerous task. I knew it's dangerous because he went as far as to lock down the entire office with seals and put Inuzuka guards all around. He apparently was removing a dangerous seal from Akane-san with Tatara-sama's help. He didn't tell me more than that. Kiri-nin really do visit Konoha surprisingly often…

Konoha is buzzing with terrible rumors today. Eremi has disappeared and a lot of people are saying that he went the way of a missing-nin again. His hitai-ate, ANBU mask and other equipment was abandoned not far outside the main gates of Konoha. I don't know what to make of this, but it definitely doesn't look good. It's so deliberate that either Eremi was making a clear declaration or someone took and wanted to make it look like he left on his own. I don't want to consider either options. Eremi is an ANBU captain of good standing, so I can't imagine him leaving everything behind. On the other hand, it'd take very power individuals, such as the Storm Brigade, to kidnap him. I'm just going to have this incident is cleared up in the best way possible.

Phew! What a busy few days! It's finally time to get Biwa home now that things have stabilized and winter is months behind us. By this time, Biwa has lived with me for half a year and hasn't seen his family for just as long. They're probably worried sick about him. I know that he's been worried about them. I notice the way that his sense of wonder and excitement slowly faded away into homesickness as the months go on. It's not that he doesn't enjoy living outside the valley among humans, but six months is a very long time to be away from family.
I prepared all the medicine and equipment that we needed over the last two days. I spent most of today shopping for all the "exotic outside food" that Biwa wants to bring back for his friends to try, like red bean paste and mango ice cream. There was so much on the list that we'd need six people to carry everything and that doesn't even include all that equipment I mentioned. Luckily, I was able to locate an expert fuinjutsu user who's knowledgeable enough help us store everything in a scroll that Biwa can easily retrieve items from later on.
Tomorrow, we leave Konoha.

Getting pass the manticore flies wasn't as hard as I was afraid of. They built a very dangerous nest around the moonflower tree, but Biwa knew of a particular giant firefly that the manticore flies don't prey on. The two of us used henge to make ourselves look like these fireflies to sneak through the nest. It was a very harrowing experience, even though none of them seemed to pay any real attention to us. We could easily have gotten caught in webbing, trip or a hundred other things that would break the henge. That wouldn't have given good results. We did end up having to fight the creatures off, but only after we reached the tree and Biwa started using his special chakra to create the passage into Flowering Fruit Valley.
It took us about another half day to travel through Flowering Fruit Valley to reach Biwa's village. The valley is simply amazing. There's so much to see, including grasshoppers the size of cattle, reeds with stalks thicker than most tree trunks, and even a stream composed completely of nectar that spills out of some enormous flowers! The Moonwing village is build on a tree so big that you can probably fit a human village on it too. Biwa's people weave these incredible silk cocoons that they attach to the tree's oversized leaves. They were kind enough to let me stay in one of the guest cocoons.

The cocoon was very comfortable, even though there's no human furniture! I rested on this nest of woven silk that's stuffed with the down taken something like a giant thistle plant. The butterflies left me with a big pile of delicious fruit yesterday and sent more for my breakfast, even though I didn't finish the stuff from yesterday. They seem to think that I'm a hero for rescuing Biwa and nothing that I say will get them to stop giving me preferential treatment. At least this means that I'll have more exotic plants to harvest samples from. I'm going to travel around the valley to study other unique fauna and flora with what time I have here.
But first, there was a big problem that we had to take care of. Biwa didn't think it's a good idea to leave the manticore fly nest intact in the Land of Fire. While there are other moonflower trees that lead to other locations, the loss even one such tree is a bad thing. Plus, I might have trouble getting back home and sneaking through the nest again. Biwa managed to round up a bunch of his friends to go clear out the nest with me. We traveled back through the Land of Fire and engaged the manticore flies in battle. It was easily than I expected, but then an enormous red manticore fly led an ambush out of Flowering Fruit Valley, hitting us from behind. It took everything we have to fend off the new threat. The moonflower tree was badly damaged in the process. Luckily, all it took was an infusion of special light chakra from the butterflies to get it functioning again. A big group of butterflies left the village to perform another healing when we returned. It should be good as new by the time I have to leave the valley.

I'm finally back in Konoha. I can't believe that it's a month since I left. Time passes very quickly when you get the rare chance to explore a place that no human has set foot on in over a generation. Biwa was a great guide, showing me things that I never even dreamed of. I tried a lot of new foods, something that Biwa took great pleasure in helping, since it allows him to reciprocate all the food tasting I set up for him when he lived with me. I have so many samples of rare medicines, food plants, insect secretions and other items from the visit too! It turns out that some of the butterflies know fuinjutsu very similar to how human shinobi use scrolls. The big difference is that they store objects into silk woven with special seal patterns. Grandmother was so happy when I showed this to her, since it's rare for her to encounter new seals that she never saw before. Anyway, the trip was fun, but there's nowhere like home. I'll be staying put for a while.
