Chikako Akiko is a young woman who was born in the Land of Grass, but raised in a small village in the Land of Fire for most of her life. Her parents died during a war before the formation of the villages, and she was sent to live with her uncle, Hiro, in the Land of Fire. Hiro was a gruff, grizzled man; a retired Jounin of the Land of Grass, a jack of all trades, specializing in no one area of being a shinobi, but skilled in all of them.
He raised Akiko, and started her training, and then told her it was time for her to see the world, telling her that her parents would have wanted her to help the new peace grow.
History!
Akiko doesn't remember her parents. Or much of anything really before she was seven or eight. She remembers being a child in a small village in the Land of Grass. Her parents were killed somewhere along the line during service to their Daimyo. When her parents died, she was sent with a merchant to the Land of Fire, to live with an uncle who had decided to abandon his duties and retire from fighting in the wars. He had left their country to hide from any hunter-nin that might be sent looking for him.
Her uncle, Hiro was a grizzled man. He was some years older than Akiko's mother had been. And he bore the scars of his service to his former home, the scars of war. Service as a Jounin. He was often gruff, even with Akiko and especially with strangers. He was not particularly pleased when she showed up on his door step with a merchant wagon as escort. But, he didn't turn her away, she was family, and all that was left of his sister, his only sibling. Hiro made his living as a blacksmith for the small village he lived near. He took Akiko in, and shortly after her arrival, she began attending school at the local village.
Despite the loss she had suffered, Akiko returned to being a happy girl a few months after beginning to live with Hiro. She made friends in the nearby easily, and would often linger in the village late, helping with chores and the families of other children would often invite the smiling girl to dinner with them. Sometimes they would even invite Uncle Hiro. Though the man had the people skills of a brick, he was popular in the village because he was good at his work, never bothered anyone, and despite his gruff nature, was generally happy to help those in need.
As Akiko grew, her uncle began to teach her. And not history or language lessons, he began to teach her the arts her mother had known, deciding it was a good way to honor his sister's memory. He himself was a versatile shinobi, a master of no art, but proficient in all of them. Akiko's mother had been a master of stealth and taijutsu. Specifically in the use of small blades and serving as an assassin. But her uncle did not tell her that, and he started with simple taijutsu lessons.
The first time Hiro attempted to push the girl beyond simple taijutsu lessons, it became apparent that mastering the flow of her chakra would be a problem. As he continued to try to teach her the more intricate arts involve chakra and how to utilize it properly, it grew obvious that the girl might never truly be able to master this side of being a shinobi. Akiko was however, a fierce combatant for her age, her size. She quickly learned how to hit, and how to make certain those hits hurt.
As she crossed into double digit years, eleven, twelve, she began working in the village whenever she could find people with things to do. She would help sew, help look after animals, play shepherd, babysit. She was a personable child and made many friends and could often be found running and playing in the forest with other youths her age when not attending lessons or working with her Uncle.
Hiro was not a man prone to giving up, and he pushed Akiko. She began to learn to get a grasp on her chakra so that she could use it in short bursts when needed, augmenting her speed or a punch or even learning to walk up a tree when her uncle sought to teach her that. But, she would often lose that grip, which resulted in a broken bone or two at first, her Uncle thinking the reminder of those might help sharpen her focus. Even when she got a better grip on these particular lessons, she would almost always burn up far more energy than intended in her endeavors.
Thirteen, fourteen, the first awkward years as a teenager, Akiko continued life as normal for the most part, though a few of her friendships with boys in the village grew awkward. An awkwardness which wasn't helped any by the looks her Uncle would give the young boys in the village when he visited himself. She stopped attending lessons at the village's school and started receiving a private education from Hiro, and the pair began spending more time on the shinobi side of her education.
As a sort of route to try and mitigate her troubles with harnassing her chakra, he began to teach her the basics of scroll jutsu and seals. Hiro was a fan of scrolls himself, he was a smart man and used his cunning in battle to get success. Scrolls helped one be prepared for a number of situations, by allowing them to bear a wide variety of things they might not otherwise be able to carry about with them at all times. And this sparked an interest in Akiko, she found it fascinating really. A simple scroll at your hip and you had an arsenal at your disposal, it allowed you to put a great number of tactics to use, and to surprise people.
Even as he was trying to work around the girl's flaws, he stepped up her taijutsu lessons, moving her from simply unarmed combat to the use of blades, both small and large. He began working with her on putting her chakra to use in these endeavors as well. Hiro and Akiko would often spend mornings or evenings alone in the forest near his home, sparring. He taught her to use her chakra, to enhance her speed in an attempt to evade attacks and also in an endeavor to land her own strikes in a flash. If the fight ended quickly enough it would not matter how much chakra she had or how quickly she burned through it. Despite these lessons, he also taught her to not -always- rely upon it. She proved a near prodigy with bladed weapons on her own.
On her fifteenth birthday, Akiko's uncle gave her a very unique gift. He pulled out an odd set of tools from his cottage's attic. The tools of a tattooist. He asked her if she wished to walk the path of a shinobi. She said yes. She wanted to honor the memory of her parents, by being what they had been. He took the tools and tattooed a summoning seal on both of her palms. It hurt a lot, but she didn't stop him.
After he had finished, he showed her what the seals were for. To store a pair of blades, whatever pair she chose. So that they would always be at hand, unless they were lost while summoned. And then she would simply have to replace them. She quickly learned to summon the blades with little more than an instant thought, and she could certainly see the uses of such a technique and began to focus more on her talent with the blades.
For the next year, Hiro would focus more intensely upon Akiko's lessons. Due to her struggles with her chakra, he didn't do more than explain the basic fundamentals of genjutsu, and never really gave her any lessons in that area, simply focusing on her taijutsu and kenjutsu and harnassing her chakra to unleash sealed items and weapons.
On her sixteenth birthday, Hiro gifted her with a lovely pair of beautifully forged blades. One, a tanto was engraved with the name of her father near the base, Takumi, and had a black tassel hanging from the bottom of the hilt. The second blade was a wakizashi with matching hilt and her mother's name engraved upon it, Aika. He did not give her a sheath for either of these and he told her it was time for her to go out and see the world. If she wanted to honor her parents, she would do so by walking their path, not for war, but to strive to help spread the new peace that had been founded.
And so, a few days after turning sixteen, Akiko found herself leaving her uncle, and on her way to the nearest Hidden Village. The Village Hidden in the Leaves.
Personality?
Akiko is for the most part, an easy-going, personable young woman. She likes having fun and enjoying life, she's quick to forgive people and quick to forget insults or slights. Often energetic, she's the type to strike up a conversation with anyone she might meet, and often wind up friends with the person.
She's loyal to those she develops a bond with, and is a good person at heart, the type to help someone she doesn't know. And not the type to ever hurt an innocent needlessly. But, she also believes that there are some things more important sometimes. If one of her friends or teammates is hurt during a fight, she would likely press on in the battle, rather than drop everything to go check on them and let their opponent escape.
While she might at times seem naive and happy-go-lucky, Akiko knows that life isn't always sunshine. While she remembers very little of her parents, despite being eight when they died, on her tenth birthday, her Uncle gave her a letter which her mother, Aika had written prior to dying.
~~Akiko,
Darling, I am so sorry that you are reading this. I've always loved your ability to find joy in everything, and I hate to think that I've done anything that might bring you sadness.
I'm not going to tell you that there are no hard times. You know now that there's sadness in life. The best I can hope for you, in fact, is that you live long enough to encounter sadness many, many times. I hope that, because I know that sadness doesn't last. Like a rainstorm, chaos and difficulty will thunder around you, but they will pass and then your gift for finding joy will serve you well. Never lose that beautiful smile my precious girl. Wear it for long years, through hardship and into happiness again.
Aika~~
Who's that girl!
This woman stands at about five and a half feet tall. She is a lovely girl, snowy white bangs hanging down over her features just a bit, covering her thin, arched brows and framing her face with straight locks that reach just to her shoulders. Her skin is pale, though she seems healthy, a rosy-hued flush often rising to her face. Her eyes are blue, though so dark as to seem like twin pools of midnight more often than not and her lips are a pale shade of pink. She is leanly muscled and slender, with the curves expected of a young woman. She carries herself with an aura of self-confidence and moves with fluid grace, akin to that of a great hunting cat.
She wears a floral-patterned, red kimono with a low V in the front which leaves a fishnet top visible beneath it. The sleeves reach to just above her elbow and bare a small expanse of pale flesh between the sleeve and the brown leather of her gloves. The gloves are a bit odd, covering from her mid-forearm down to her hand, where there's a hole for the middle finger to slip through, drawing them to cover the backs of her hands. However, her fingers and the palms of her hands are left bare as the leather stops at her wrist on the underside. Her fingernails have been painted a shade of red to match the kimono she wears. A wide, floral embroidered sash is cinched about her waist, as are a number of leather belts with metal buckles. These belts bear a number of things, ranging from kunai and daggers, to numerous scroll cases. A pair of brown leather boots clad her feet.
The unusual gloves the girl wears leave bare a tattoo set into the palm of each hand, which to those familiar with such things may look like a crimson-inked seal set into her flesh.

Hinotori | Friend | Hinotori is a Jounin of Konohagakure that she met out by the lake one day. They've sparred some, and met a few times since the original run in. He invited her out to the lake for lunch even. |
Hitoshi | Friend | Hitoshi is a Chuunin of the Hidden Leaf Village that Akiko met shortly after arriving, and she even went on a mission with him! He doesn't seem to enjoy chatting all that much, but Akiko enjoys his company. They've even sparred once. He was probably taking it easy on her, but she won. |
Uncle Hiro | Uncle | Akiko's uncle Hiro is a grizzled old Jounin from the Land of Grass. She was sent to live with him in the Land of Fire while she was still young, which is where Hiro had retired to, when he grew tired of the constant wars. He taught her a great deal and helped her get on the path to being a shinobi. |

None! | Akiko hasn't really gotten to a point in her life where she has 'enemies' yet. For the time being, she seems content to share whoever Konoha's enemies might be, however. |
Dear Diary!
A mission! When I first arrived in Konoha I had expressed my desire to work with the shinobi of the village, and at first, they just gave me permission to train with the other ninja, and had my progress watched to see how I stood up. Then, a few weeks after I arrived in Konohagakure, they sent me on a mission with Taiki-san, Narusegawa-san, Atsuro-san and Hitoshi-san. I wasn't really certain what the mission's goal was, it was kind of confusing at first, so I just followed along and kept my mouth shut for the most part!
During the mission, we wound up ambushed by a pair of (crazy) Inuzuka, who were apparently Taiki-san's uncles! It was really strange. During the fight, Hitoshi-san got injured and I wound up chasing after one of the Inuzuka for a moment by myself, and I think I held my own well enough. I didn't really manage to do much damage, but I held him up and didn't get hurt myself. And then! A burst of flames came out of nowhere and killed him! After that, things got even weirder, and the sky went dark for a bit. I wound up having to stick a seal that Taiki had given me on this guy and then things seemed to go back to normal, and we apparently rescued the guy we had been sent to rescue. Success!
I met another Uchiha today! He was out by the lake when I went for a walk. Uchiha Hinotori, he seemed nice enough, and we chatted for a bit, and come to find out he's mostly a taijutsuist! Which is a little different. The Uchiha i met on my mission with Taiki-san, Narusegawa-san seemed to focus heavily on ninjutsu and throwing around water lances and things like that, so I assumed they'd all be like that. And there's all these stories about their eyes! Hinotori offered to help me work on my training, and I imagine he's probably pretty good, so that'll be fun.
I met Hinotori-san a few days later for a sparring bout, and wow. He's pretty quick, and he hits hard. He was definitely holding back a bit, but I think I kept up pretty well, I landed a few punches and even hit him with my tanto at one. The blunt side, because it was the first time I summoned them in the fight, and I didn't want to gut him on accident or anything! We called it quits after a little while, but it was definitely a good work out, and I'm looking forward to more. Training with someone who is above me in taijutsu is good for improving my own techniques, I think. After we finished, he offered to buy me breakfast sometime!
I've been in Konohagakure for a few weeks now. I arrived shortly after my 16th birthday, and it's been a bit of an adjustment from the life I got used to as a girl. But, it's been pretty easy, really. Mostly because everybody here is so nice. It's kind of amazing, who'd have thought a village full of deadly shinobi would be full of the kindest people you'd ever meet? I mean, I'm sure there are a couple of bad apples around, but I haven't met them yet, and everyone I have met has been perfectly happy to help me learn my way around and settle into my new life here.
The village shinobi are certainly an interesting bunch. Konohagakure seems to be the melting pot of the ninja world, there are people from -everywhere- here, and it makes things pretty amazing. There's so many different personalities, different styles, different fashions. It's an incredibly diverse place, and every trip to the training grounds here is like a brand new adventure.
I had a DATE today! Hinotori-san invited me out to join him by the lake for a picnic of sorts! It was very sweet, I thought, and the food was great. We talked some, about my past and about his past. It sounds like he's been through a lot, and sort of fell into a slump due to having to fight so much, and then Narusegawa and some others kicked him in the rump until he got off his butt.
We talked about some other stuff, like how important it is to defend the new peace that's been founded, and..I think we have a lot of stuff in common, really! It was a sweet lunch and kind of romantic, and it's like he really gets me on a deeper level. He seems like a sensitive guy, and it's just amazing. I really like him! After we ate, we got into the lake, he took my hand and pulled me farther into the lake, and then I sort of just got lost staring into his eyes, he's so dreamy! ….He kissed me! Oh my goodness, I wish it could've lasted forever and ever, it was so special. I can't wait to see him again, thinking about it makes me feel faint!

Akiko's Soundtrack! Let's get the party started!
While not perfect, I like this song for Akiko's personality and outlook on life.
As my original concept for Akiko was a Rock Lee/Guy type with swords thrown in, I thought this would be a fitting tribute to that concept. ;)
