Asato is a serious young shinobi with a troubled past and a heart full of conviction. He is dedicated to one purpose and one purpose alone - to achieve skill great enough so that he can avenge his family and his stolen honor. For a boy with an astounding sense of loyalty to his father's name, he has difficulty forming any close relationships, and reveals his innermost thoughts and feelings to almost no one. The only person known to have gotten past his impenetrable wall is Hideki, his half brother.

Background

+ Asato's beginning...

Asato was born in the Land of Lightning, as the child of the Hatake and Reizei bloodlines. His mother, Reizei Hayai, was of the Main family, and was essentially disowned when she married a dirty, foreign Hatake. Still, she was happy, at least for a while. As Asato grew, she began to grow anxious, for she knew that her Reizei family members would react strongly to the presence of what they considered "bastard blood". They would do everything possible to keep their Secret Jutsu to themselves, and not to allow one such as the illegitimate son of the Reizei to have anything to do with it - he could not be trusted. More than that, /she/ could not be trusted not to teach it to him in secret. So it was, that on the eve of his graduation, that fateful night came to pass.

While most of the Clan agreed that the family should be kept an eye on, some of them felt differently - very differently. In what could be summed up as the most criminal act the Reizei Clan had ever witnessed, a small band of their members ambushed the Hatake household in the dead of night, using their swift bladed jutsu to send both mother and father to their graves while they scarcely had the chance to fight back. Asato heard the screams, and came out of his room to see his parents' bloodied bodies in lifeless heaps on the ground, and he ran to them, clutching them as the drew their last breaths. The Reizei only laughed. They told him how pathetic he looked, and that he would be spared, only so that he could live with the shame of what he was - the unwanted bastard Reizei son of a dirty-blooded Hatake. At the time, Asato didn't know who they were - but he vowed vengeance on that day, with hatred burning in his heart. He was 9 years old. When their task was complete, the band of Reizei fled the village rather than face the judgement that would surely have befallen them for their crimes, and they haven't been seen since.

+ Life as a Ninja...

Asato's Genin years were spent in a state of emotional solitude that he would carry with him for many years to come. What he did accomplish with his squadmates he did only for the sake of the mission, feeling no real attachment towards them. He became strictly task-oriented, with one goal in mind - to train his skills and gain strength enough for the task he had vowed to fulfill. Though he was an intelligent and skilled shinobi, it took him three long years to be deemed ready for the Chuunin exams. This was due in part to his general detachment and aloofness, as his superiors were, for the most part, unsure what to think of him, and weren't sure if he was mentally stable enough to be a leader. It was decided, however, that his training had been sufficient and he worked efficiently enough in a team regardless of his feelings (or lack thereof), and so he would be allowed to take the examinations.

What he didn't know was that his father had left behind another son, the result of an affair with a Yotsuki woman during a time of emotional distance between he and his wife. Asato met his half-brother, Hideki, when he took his Chuunin exams. Hideki was three years younger than he was, and so they hadn't had much contact up until that point - but when they passed one another in the halls of the academy, the resemblance was uncanny, and they knew it was no coincidence when they both introduced themselves as "Hatake". Asato was 12, and Hideki was 9. Since then, they have been the silent support for one another. Although Asato doesn't really call anyone "close", Hideki is the closest thing he has to a real familial relationship, something that he appreciates in his own way.

Asato has spent his Chuunin years in rigorous training, still living with one goal in mind - to avenge his fallen parents /and/ his stolen honor, and prove once and for all the terrifying power of the Hatake.

Personality

Asato is what one would consider a serious young man. Not one to tolerate foolishness, he is quick to admonish any shinobi whom he sees as lacking the discipline that their profession demands - regardless of their rank. With his hardened exterior comes a certain reservedness, one all to often seen with someone who is keeping a deep secret. And he is no exception. Because of this reservedness, he is quick to judge and slow to open up to people, even those whom he's known for a long time, whom he's grown up with. Not having many close relationships, he spends most of his time in solitary training, or studying up on the latest jutsu he wishes to learn. What he plans to do with all of this skill is yet unknown.

Appearance

Asato is tall for his age, his frame showing much of the musculature that he will carry through manhood. His lean and chiseled face is framed by a shaggy mop of chin-length, cloud-white hair, with a thin braided tail hanging behind his right ear and bangs that fall just over his piercing blue eyes. His expression generally is one of great focus, his brows drawn down to narrow his eyes and give one the sense of a hawk peering down at its prey. He is not scrawny, nor is he bulky, but his build and tone are suited perfectly for his swift and agile fighting style, which favors speed and precision over brute strength. Asato has two tattoos, both special kanji characters: On his right shoulder reads "Revenge", and on his left shoulder reads "Loyalty".

Chuunin Exams begin today. As I walked through the Academy towards the examination room, I saw this boy who looked.. Well, just like my father. He must have seen the same resemblance in me, because we both stopped and just stared at each other for a while. Then he introduced himself as Hatake Hideki. He is my half-brother. I don't know how I should feel about that. I guess I'll be keeping an eye on him, for now.

I have been training as a Chuunin for two years, and it is only now that my target becomes clear. I spotted them. The same blades that have haunted my dreams for five long years. I know now that they belong to the Reizei Clan. My mother's Clan. This is a disturbing revelation, but only further fuels my hatred for the people who betrayed their own kin. I will lay low for now, until the true identity of the murderers is apparent. Knowing that they are Reizei is a substantial clue that should significantly help my hunt. I will find them.
