Hone Nai is a quiet records keeper and legal assistant to the Sunagakure Council. He is not known to possess any particular skills or powers that would make him stand out. Little is known about him. But he has been working with the Kazekage since before the end of the Clan Wars, so he is clearly trusted by the Kazekage himself.

Hone Nai's background is presently kept secret, both by himself, and by the Kazekage. Little is known about him other than that he has been by the Kazekage's side since before Sunagakure was founded. He has served continuously and loyally all the way up to the present. The Sasaki Clan Elders, especially the Elders of the Wind Path, suspect him of being a rogue Earth Sasaki — possibly even one of the founders of the Clan itself! However, no evidence has yet been presented to support this theory.

Hone Nai is a very static individual. He does not like changes or surprises, and does not respond well to them. If something changes or happens suddenly, he has trouble acclimating, and may be overwhelmed mentally. He also dislikes bright sunlight (a problem living in the desert, but he manages with goggles and protective gear), loud noises, being woken up early, spicy food, and being criticized. He also dislikes conflict of all kinds, whether that be a verbal confrontation, or a ninja battle. If possible, he avoids situations where such things would come up.

Nai can be trusted to react logically in almost any situation. He is loyal to the Kazekage (for reasons unknown to most), and has no personal aspirations for further power. This means he is one of the rare individuals in this chaotic landscape of newly-formed nations that one can trust to neither try to take over a superior's position, nor betray allies for personal gain. Nai is good at doing repetitive tasks, or working on a set schedule. When he knows he is supposed to be a certain place at a certain time, he is more likely to be there, than when someone says, "Oh, just find me sometime this week."

Hone Nai likes concrete information, logic, and sticking to a routine. He likes night time, and darkness in general, keeping his quarters nearly pitch-black most of the time. He appreciates people being polite to him, likes to be able to sleep when he chooses to, and loves raw meat. Nai collects and restores old books as a hobby.

Hone Nai doesn't really like anyone, but there are those who he works best with. Chief among them is the Kazekage. The Kazekage knows exactly who and what Nai is, and keeps that information secret in exchange for Nai's loyalty and servitude. This is fine with Nai, as he didn't much care for his existence prior to being given his position anyway. Nai is suspected of secretly being a Sasaki rogue of some sort, by some members of the Sasaki Clan. However, they have not been able to prove anything. Nai does not rightly care what the Sasaki think, but the turmoil they threaten to cause if they attempt to prove their suspicions is cause enough for concern. He thus tries to keep all of the Sasaki at arm's length, and avoids dealing with them whenever possible.

Appearance

Nai Hone has no details of his person visible. He is average height, but aside from that, there is no flesh exposed, no hair visible, no eye coloration, or anything else. This is because he is wrapped completely in loose, dark-colored clothing, bandages, and a heavy cloak with a hood. His face is likewise wrapped in bandages, and he wears tinted goggles over his eyes. Bandages for gloves, and wraps about his legs, along with sandals on his feet, complete his outfit. He has a hita-ite, with the symbol of the Village Hidden in the Sand on it, resting on his forehead.
