Akari is entirely devoted to Kirigakure and the Land of Water. She may not always agree with everything the leadership of Kirigakure does, and she may be prone to the occasional bout of selfishness, but she would never act against her home.. She is proud of the militaristic reputation Kirigakure has garnered in the brief time the Villages have been around, as it implies a certain degree of respect from other Villages. It also implies that Kirigakure will be prepared when the next war breaks out, something she strives to make certain of, both through rigorous training and through playing politics. Discipline should be harsh and strict. If someone does something foolish, you deal harshly with them so you do not waste your own time by having them repeat it and so that everyone else who hears of it thinks before they do anything of the sort themselves.
She's how old?
Akari was born a quarter of a century before the villages formed on 03/23/25 B.F., raised in a small and quiet fishing village on the shores of the Land of Water. Her early childhood was pleasant, the simple sort that children live in stories, she fished, she played games with the other children, running around chasing chickens through the village. Her oldest sister was a talented flute player and would play melodies for the other children while they were tending to chores or just for them to dance to. This quaint story would come to an abrupt end when Akari was 6 years old and a wandering member of the Kaguya clan went on a rage-fueled rampage through the small village, turning it into a graveyard. Nearly everyone in the village would die, including all of Akari's family. The girl herself would only survive because her mother fell on her when she was stabbed, and the girl fainted.
Four days later, Akari is found in the village by a wandered, a woman named Touketsu Mizari. Akari was alone in the village because the other handful of survivors had fled and not yet worked up the nerve to return. Mizari would take Akari with her, moving farther into the mainland of the Land of Water, where she lived. Akari spent a few years being raised amongst Mizari's own children and as she grew old enough, the woman and some other Touketsu who lived in the village taught Akari to defend herself, starting with the most simple of tools, a knife. This eventually grew to be a sword as Akari herself grew and was able to manage the weight and length of a longer blade. She quickly proved a near prodigy with edged weapons and developed a high skill level when bearing two blades. Mizari had the girl tested to see if she had any gift for the other shinobi techniques and Akari proved to have a great gift for manipulating her own chakra and that of lightning energy.
Akari began wandering at the young age of twelve, at first she would roam from one village she knew to have Touketsu or their contacts and would linger in each for a time, learning some tricks from each before moving on to the next after learning of another place. She slowly made her way towards the outer edges of the Land of Water, taking a couple of years as she learned from Touketsu along the way. A teenager now, she left the Land of Water, joining a merchant ship and taking work as a sailor. The sea proved to be something she had a love for, a love that has endured through the decades since. Her talents proved to be of use on the rare occasion that pirates thought to attack the ship she happened to be a crew member on.
After a couple of years of sailing, Akari took her wandering to the other lands. A woman grown now, she began to work as a mercenary, using the talents the Touketsu had helped her develop as she roamed from land to land. Over these years, she took works from a great many different people in nearly every land upon the map. It was during this time that she truly began to see how bad the wars and constant fighting amongst the clans was, and she was disgusted with these clans who were more concerned with themselves than with the welfare of their lands. This was so different than what she had seen of the Touketsu, who lived to serve their home, the Land of Water.
A few years before the formation of the Villages, Akari after a long while of wandering, heard of troubles in her homeland, and returned to the Land of Water, to seek out the Touketsu once again and learn what she could. She began working with them in service of the Land as she could. When she learned of the plans to unite all of the shinobi into one collective militar force, she was eager to serve to her home in this way. Once Kirigakure is founded, she began serving immediately, quickly proving herself and her devotion to the Village repeatedly. When the Anbu were first formed in Kirigakure, Akari was one of the first shinobi brought into the group. Spending so much time around other highl trained shinobi, the woman's skills continued to grow and she earns a place on a number of diplomatic missions as well, helping grow the relationships with the other villages.
Akari was eventually given a place amongst Kirigakure's hunter-nin, hunting down rogue shinobi who were deemed a threat to Kirigakure and the Land of Water. Shortly after being placed with the hunter-nin, Akari was sent on a joint mission with shinobi from the Land of Wind, and the Village Hidden in the Sand. There had been rumors of a group of rogue shinobi from both villages that had gathered. They were discontent with the new order of things and had decided to flee their villages to plot against them. It proved to be a particularly dangerous mission, they'd received bad intel as to who was with this group, and had sent less manpower than was really needed. But, Akari managed to survive, her fellow Mist ninja was not so lucky and two of the four Sunagakure ninja who'd accompanied them had died.
Upon her return from the mission, Akari was awarded the legendary swords Kiba and named one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. It was a great honor, and one the woman took to heart. She is fiercely loyal to Kirigakure and her homeland, and she was eager to serve in this new role, further spreading the influence and notoriety of Kirigakure. In this new position, the woman would take a more active role in the village and its politics. She has grown to become a diplomat of sorts, often spending months at a time away from Kirigakure, building relations with villages and occasionally even offering her services to them when needed, as a way to cement alliances and deals.
Even before receiving Kiba, Akari had proven a great talent for lightning manipulation and developed a bit of a reputation, since receiving the Thunderswords, her reputation has only grown as they have proven a great addition to her gifts. Recently, Akari has been spending more time in the village, doing her part to help ensure the next generation of shinobi is ready to serve Kirigakure.
Personality?
Proud of her homeland. It's the sort of pride that breeds intolerance, and she has no great love of foreigners. But, she's too clever not to recognize that her pride can often be entirely unbecoming and hurt her goals or purpose, and thus she has easily learned to fake the most apparently genuine and warm smiles when needed. She is rarely genuinely interested in helping these peope, but she is aware doing so can gain benefits for her homeland or her personally.
Akari has lived a tumultuous life, but it's a life that has only made her stronger. Stubborness and cold-hearted survival instinct combine in this woman to make her pragmatic and ambitious. She has grown into a talented manipulator, and is adept at telling people what they want to hear when they have something she needs or wants.
Losing. Akari is an incredibly bitter sore loser, and she hates losing at -anything-. She's not the type to have a fit, she's the type to take extreme revenge over petty things. Beat her at a game of poker and she might try to break your leg if the chance arises a few weeks after the game.
The West. Anything to do with Western culture is a quick ticket to igniting Akari's short fuse. She is a traditionalist at heart and nothing grates on her nerves more than someone seemingly falling prey to this foreign culture.
Anyone who didn't work for what they have, namely descendants of clans with a Kekkei Genkai who rely heavily upon its use to obtain their success and power. Spawned by jealousy that she doesn't have such a gift, though she wouldn't admit that to anyone, and hides it behind disdain for them not working hard enough.
People who whine about their lot in life. Your life is what you make it, what you earn, what you deserve. If you don't like it, you aren't trying hard enough. The strong take advantage of the weak, that's life.
Dancing. The woman loves to dance, and this is one of the few things she remembers from her childhood. Her older sister would play the flute and she would dance. A poor dancing partner is something that will spark her temple rather quickly though. Don't step on her toes.
Sailing. This is Akari's true form of relaxation, there is nothing like being out on the water for her. And sure, she can -walk- on water, but it's not the same as being on a boat and feeling the sea roll beneath you.
Competition. The woman thrives on competition, so long as she wins. Any chance to prove that she is better than someone else is a chance that is hard for her to pass up, it doesn't matter what it is. From a simple footrace, to a life or death fight.
Who's that lady?
If one can get past this woman's often stern carriage, she has an edged and striking beauty, her face carved, seemingly, of flawless marble. The shimmering dark blue of her hair contrasts smooth skin and exotic eyes. Those shockingly bright cerulean eyes flash wickedly, wild as a storm and fierce as one too. She has a careless elegance about her, the line of her figure svelte, long-limbed, standing just over five and a half feet tall. But she is no fragile, fainting thing, and her voice is arresting. A blue-inked tattoo, scattered like a burst of chain lightning, spirals up and around her right leg across her hip and abdomen.
She wears a simple, light blue top which fits snugly to her figure and leaves her shoulders bare, but has a high collar. She wears a pair of black leggings, the standard sandals of a shinobi and a pair of dark blue, fingerless gloves. Around her waist sits a belt, the wide buckle emblazoned with the symbol of Kirigakure, the Village Hidden in the Mist. A wicked pair of swords hang from her hips. Kiba, the Thunderswords are a perfectly matching pair of blades with an angled spike upon both sides, one near the tip and one near the hilt.
Contacts
Name | Relationship | Notes |
---|---|---|
Hibiki | Kiri Genin | An odd child, one Akari has taken with her a few times to judge his abilities and see how well he handles orders. |
Masanori | Kiri Visitor | Strange man who was found in the Land of Water after reports that he'd killed some pirates. Seems willing to work with the village, and is (In Akari's opinion) in desperate need of someone to teach him. |
Meruin | Kiri Jounin | Young village jounin, Akari's worked with him since returning, seems talented, but a bit 'off'. Useful though, and she doesn't care how broken his personality is as long as that continues. |
Ichihoshi | Kiri Chuunin | A Chuunin Akari has taken with her on a few errands, including a brief trip to Kumogakure. Seems a decent sort, nothing about him is particularly memorable however. |
Suigintou | Kiri Chuunin | Another village Chuunin. Seems lazy, prime example of why she dislikes clans. Might have to drag him along on an A rank mission or two. If she's lucky, he'll die. |

Case Closed due to target's death and proper disposal of body. Head returned to the village as proof, by Swordswoman Kira Akari.
Comments from Akari's report : Target was stumbled across outside of a small fishing village near the shore of the Land of Water, apparently intending to hire a boat to get him across to the mainland. The Swordswoman had just returned from a number of diplomatic endeavors and various other duties outside of the Village, and had been kept up to date on ANBU and Hunter operations via messenger birds. Akari stated that she was recognized and the target immediately moved to engage her. Drawing her swords, she claims that they engaged each other at the fringe of the village, her lightning infused blades chipping away bits of bone from Yatori's bone-swords. Target was felled due to traumatic degrees of shock. After killing the target, Swordswoman Akari promptly set to beheading the corpse, to return the head to Kirigakure as proof that the missing-nin has been properly dealt with. Head has been given to the Kaguya.
Just got back to Kirigakure a few days ago. Been a short while since I've had the chance to spend much time at home, looking forward to it. We need to make sure the next generation of Mist shinobi are ready. This peace is spoiling them. It's not going to last, and they must be ready for war when it comes. I intend to continue my diplomatic travels, it's good to keep the reputation of Kirigakure and the Seven Swordsmen fresh in the minds of people, but..I also believe it may prove a good idea to start taking Genin and Chuunin with me on these visits to the other villages. Maybe encourage a bit of sparring with the locals while we are travelling.
It would be good for the young shinobi, to fight those with a different style than what they are accustomed to seeing. I wouldn't mind seeing what the other villages are teaching their children either, and it will give me a further excuse to speak with the Jounin of the village if my students are engaged in sparring bouts with their Genin and Chuunin.
The Village seems increasingly dependent upon these clan families, the vast majority of shinobi in the village and particularly the ones in positions of power, bear some 'special' name that they seem to think makes them better than the rest of us. Hozuki, Kaguya, Okumo. With a Hozuki as Mizukage, it is only a matter of time before the bloodthirsty Kaguya decide they deserve to be the ones in charge. I will have to start taking this more seriously. With any luck, perhaps I can find some Touketsu around to help in this endeavor. I still have many contacts spread throughout the Land of Water, perhaps it is past time to begin using them for something more.
I will have to be careful with these thoughts and these plans. There are many of these people, and I may be good, but I can't get much done if I wind up with an entire clan or two either watching my every move or outright trying to get rid of me. Perhaps I can seek assistance in this project outside the village. I imagine the Kaguya have made plenty of enemies.
