Background

+ Show Background Pt. 1

Kyuushuu Bisetsu is considered a member of the 'Senju Clan' by those who know her and have fought alongside of her. She has the same innate talent for the three categories of ninja skill (Genjutsu, Ninjusu, and Taijutsu), as well as the potential for mastery of a given Elemental Chakra Nature above and beyond 'normal' ninja. However, the 'Senju Clan' is not itself any one family nor even a dozen families. Most are not even distantly related. The Senju are known as the 'Clan Of A Thousand Skills' because those who compose the Senju are from all walks of life, all countries, and all of the families who do not possess a special power or genetic heritage as the other ninja Clans do. During the Clan Wars, those Clans with an advantage, 'trump card', or secret weapon were those who were the most successful. They were the ones who survived while all around them were slain, brough to ruin, or scattered to the winds.

However, this shattering of lives was not restricted solely to other Clans, but even simply peasants, merchants, homeless people… As well as soldiers, governing officials, and even royalty! The destruction of the 'bonds of family' left many survivors wandering amidst the chaos and uncertainty without home, food, or loved ones. Many fell into despair, died of starvation or disease, or were unfortunate enough to be caught in further ninja battles and were slain in the cross-fire. Those who managed to persevere and join up with other survivors, however, found that they were stronger together than apart. Further, with wisdom, caution, and determination, these survivors lived long enough to be joined by 'Senju Hashiramako' and 'Senju Tobiramako'…

These two kunoichi, the first two ninja of great power known to possess the name 'Senju' and to possess the unique abilities of Wood Release and the absolute mastery of Water Release, would become the leaders of the scattered wanderers. Together, both the 'original' two Senju and those who followed them created a NEW 'Clan'. This Clan was given the name Senju by those who encountered them — either as witnesses to their strength upon the battlefield or as those who were saved and protected from marauding ninja without such nobility or honor. Most of those who had placed their trust in Hashiramako and her sister gladly renamed themselves with the family name of 'Senju'. Just as mighty oaks will grow from little acorns when given soil, water, and time, the rebirth of life amongst those who had previously abandoned the idea of living another day was accepted as a 'spiritual rebirth' as well.

It was time to abandon the painful shackles of the past and to look to the future, when the world would be green with life once more…

Most felt this way. Some others felt the same way but did not wish to simply cast off the names that they had inherited from their ancestors. To simply 'forget' those they had lost and who had been the very reason they had survived long enough to even BECOME 'Senju' would be a horrible dishonor to the dead and simply was too toxic a notion to build a new life upon. Kyuushuu Bisetsu was one of the second category of people. Though respectful of the 'bond of friendship' and 'bond of survival' that had formed between all these different families under the leadership of Hashiramako, Bisetsu chose not to stay when the Clan Wars were over and the Hidden Leaf Vilage's construction was begun. She paid her respects to the two women who lead the lost and the broken to this time of rebirth, and then she bid them farewell to travel back to her own country.

Bisetsu had left her country, "Kyuushuu", originally because her own Clan, the Kyuushuu, were in danger of destruction at the hands of the many ninja Clans and the 'special advantages' those ninja possessed. The Kyuushuu Clan was powerful, but only in the sense of their control over the island country that was named after their Clan. The country of Kyuushuu was ruled and administered by the Kyuushuu Clan, but there was no organized instruction of ninjutsu to the people. They were faithful followers of the teachings of the Sage of the Six Paths all the way from the time before his death until long after most other people and nations had begun to wonder if he had ever truly existed.

However, the Kyuushuu Clan followed the ways of the 'Ninshuu' ('Shinobi Sect') that the Sage had set down as a 'way of life' and NOT as a means to use or control Chakra nor a way to gain power or use 'ninjutsu'. In this way, the Kyuushuu Clan brought relative peace and prosperity to their country such that the very lands they inhabited became known as 'Kyuushuu'… Ironically similar to how those who supported and followed Hashiramako became known as 'Senju'.

That similarity reminded Bisetsu of how she had set out to get help, knowledge, power, or anything else that would save her people and protect the Kyuushuu Clan from harm. That was why she returned home, confident that with the strength she had gained during the Clan Wars she could at LEAST help to fend off any invaders from now on, and perhaps even instruct others in order to expand their nation's defense force. She did not like having to bring such militant ideas into a land of peace, but those ideas had already been brought in long before she returned by the invaders who necessitated her departure.

When she left, the soldiers of the defense force and the handfull of individuals who had chosen of their own accord to learn Ninjutsu were fighting in the 'outer rings' to keep the invaders from reaching the farmlands within the 'inner rings' of Kyuushuu Country. When she returned, most of the country was either in chaos and ruins or simply abandoned. The 'center ring' of Kyuushuu Country was where the primary temple of the Ninshuu had been founded — either by the followers of the Sage or by the Sage himself.

It had been levelled. It was a temple that was also a city. It was where the remains of the Sage had been said to have been interred and had been guarded and respected for longer than anyone could remember… Centuries. Millennia, maybe. The temple-city was literally nothing but gravel and small stones spread out across dozens of miles. So too was the Sage's entire tomb gone. But rather than being destroyed, it seemingly had just been RIPPED from the very GROUND somehow and then 'vanished'. Left behind was a hideous, bottomless HOLE in the earth…

It had taken Bisetsu nearly half a year to reach Kyuushuu Country on foot, but apparently someone had gotten there ahead of her and wrought the majority of this devastation in-person. Further, he had only left relatively recently before Bisetsu arrived within the country, it seemed. The various other ninja Clans who had been the original threat to Kyuushuu Country had suffered a similarly dark fate as the country they were invading. Most who witnessed these events said it was only one man who was responsible. Only one man had come and defiled the final resting place of he who had proclaimed he was the 'Savior of this world'.

Bisetsu could think of only one man with enough power to do this, and the name offered on the lips of the few witnesses confirmed her suspicions. 'Uchiha Madara', they had said. Bisetsu was shocked, horrified, and then enraged. The Uchiha were the ones who had joined hands with the Senju in an agreement of peace only seven or eight months prior! Madara had been here but a week before Bisetsu arrived! It was a betrayal! Bisetsu decided she had to tell Hashiramako, who had been likely to be given the title of 'Hokage' as part of the unification of the various Clans in a single ninja village. Then Madara could be punished for his traitorous actions!

As well, Bisetsu wished to tell the older woman of a disturbing thing she had heard from only one of the witnesses to Madara's presence. That one survivor who had witnessed the tomb of the Sage being stolen, and a member of the Kyuushuu Clan himself, had said there was a SECOND man. Madara had an accomplice to this treachery. A man who towered over everyone else, wore a black mask with a red question mark on its surface, and dressed in a black mantle with red clouds thereupon…

The survivor said that others had seen the second man as well, but the tall one had done something… Showed them something on or in the palm of his hand, and then afterwards, no one who had seen that hand remembered there was a second man present. The survivor had asked. It was like their memories had been stolen from them.

Bisetsu shook hands with the survivor at his request, and then left him where he lay. He was determined not to receive medical aid. He was too old and was going to die no matter what, he had told her. But once they shook hands, he said he entrusted the truth to Bisetsu and she alone.

Kyuushuu Bisetsu reached Konohagakure, still under construction but having made remarkable progress in the little-over-a-year since she had last been in the Land of Fire. In addition to the six months to get back from Kyuushuu Country, she had also stayed behind for another two months to help the survivors as much as she was able before she departed on her trip. When she finally arrived at the Hidden Leaf Village, she secured a meeting with the Hokage as soon as she could. The meeting and the dire message Bisetsu brought were delayed from being delivered only briefly, as she confirmed that Uchiha Madara was not present. She was told by Hashiramako that he had abandoned the Hidden Leaf over a year ago when his own Clan had decried him for attempts to renew the fighting simply because a Senju had been chosen as Hokage instead of Madara himself.

This was somewhat surprising to Bisetsu, it also explained what she had seen and heard in Kyuushuu Country. She opened her mouth to tell her story and reveal the foul actions and potential danger represented by Madara and the man in the mask. She only got out the words, 'Uchiha Madara was in Kyuushuu'. After that she was struck with a sudden wave of vertigo and soon after she fell to the ground unconscious.

When Bisetsu awoke, she was in a medical treatment camp. The hospital was not entirely done being built yet. She asked how she got to the Hidden Leaf, and she was told that she had walked here herself. After several minutes of concentration, she recalled how she had seen the devastation of her homeland, helped the survivors, and then left to talk to Hashiramako and inform her of the tragedy. That was all. She must have passed out from fatigue and nothing more.

Senju Hashiramako came to see how Bisetsu was and asked if the younger woman was able to finish what she was trying to say about Madara. Bisetsu was utterly bewildered. "Madara?" she inquired. "What about him?" Hashiramako had seemed perplexed as well though also a bit 'wary' as she recited Bisetsu's own words to her. Bisetsu had no recollection of ever speaking such a thing. "You must have misheard me," she said. "I had no idea he was in Kyuushuu. What was he doing there? Did you send him or did he travel of his own accord to aid with the rebuilding efforts?"

For one long moment, she saw something in Hashiramako's expression that made her feel very, very scared. But then the other woman relaxed and smiled. "I must have misheard you. You were so exhausted you passed out, and I've been pretty busy myself. Mistakes are easy to make in that condition. You're free to rest here until you've recovered."

Bisetsu, however, did not stay after that. She had seen suspicion in the Hokage's eyes, as though perhaps the other woman thought Bisetsu was someone other than whom she appeared to be. She did not like that. She began to fear that perhaps the leader of the Senju was not the woman she had believed in before… Or that perhaps becoming Hokage had changed Hashiramako into a different woman entirely.

Bisetsu left to do some soul-searching, to travel the world, and to do as she had been doing before the need to leave Kyuushuu Country had struck originally. She was going to perfect the arts of the blacksmith she had been working on for most of her life. One day, she would return to her countrymen to see how they were doing with rebuilding their lives.

For now, she would avoid the Hidden Leaf and avoid Kyuushuu Country as well. She didn't know why she would do either of those things, but she also didn't even think to question it. Why would she? It's not as though those thoughts belonged to anyone ELSE…

She remained, however, somewhat puzzled by what appeared to be a kanji of some kind on the 'heel' of her right hand. The kanji for 'Travel'. She couldn't seem to recall just WHEN she got a TATTOO…

Bisetsu has not been back to Konohagakure or to her homeland in more than five years.

Personality

Appearance

Bisetsu is 5'9". She has pale skin. Her hair is ginormous and white and spiked. It goes down PAST HER KNEES. She has bright, cyan eyes, and a red-brown diamond-shaped mark on her forehead. Her eyebrows are marked black with charcoal to provide a nice contrast of colors with her light-hued skin. Likewise, her lips frequently have black lipstick on them. Bisetsu's build is somewhere between a dancer's and a gymnast's, with grace and strength in equal measure.

She tends to wear the top-half of a black dogi with narrow shoulder straps. A broad, white obi is wrapped around her waist. Under this dogi is a blue and black mesh garment that is nearly transparent and yet seems to provide protection against the elements somehow due to the minimal other clothing worn. She doesn't appear to realize her rather small black undies are frequently visible to on-lookers.

Black, toeless tabi on her feet and fingerless elbow-length gloves on her hands are her only other obvious garments.
