Background

+ Reveal: Chapter 1: The Boy Who Looked into the Abyss.

The Murakami family was well known amongst the Nogakujin as being masters of the art of thriller and horror. They're performances were renowned for their bone chilling perpetuation of terror they portrayed to the audience. They traveled with their act all around the Land of Rain. Jin was the younger of the two children. His brother was 5 years his senior and though there was a fierce rivalry between the two there was mutual respect and love. Jin's favorite play to perform was Kurozuka. He learned of the old folklore Onibaba in which Kurozuka was loosely based on. Jin enjoyed irony and the twisted mesh of evil placed in good intentions. For him the play revealed the illusion of 'purity'. Jin enjoyed performing for 9 years until the wars came. During the wars Jin and his family had to be more selective in their travels but they still continued to perform.

One night after performing for a clan of shinobi along their travels Jin's mother was harassed by a few shinobi. His father stepped in and got them to pack off after a few exchanging of dark and threatening words. That night he would urge the rest of the family to pack up and prepare for a hasty departure. But with the nightfall came tragedy. The shinobi from before came for Jin's mother. They had their way with her after first dispatching the father. Jin and his brother came upon them in their act. The sight of his father's corpse and his mother's defiling sent Jin's brother into an enraged frenzy. He charged them and met his grisly end at their hands. Jin's mother urged him to run but Jin stood paralyzed. She went to him, body aching, and comforted him. The last thing she would whisper to him would be forever edged into Jin's memory. "There's always a little light. So long as it shines you can live." Her soft lips pressed against his head before she was harshly pulled away. She met her end at the shinobi's blade. Only then did Jin flee. By many strokes of luck he managed to escape. He wandered for a few days using up what little rations he'd manage to take with him or found along the way until he stumbled onto a seemingly abandoned hut. He rummaged through it looking for food and water. He was rather traumatized by what he'd experienced a few days ago but he kept it suppressed under his desire to live. His mother's last words were all that he wanted to recall. Shinobi arrived at this hut. Jin spotted them and looked for a place to hide. He found a stairway to a cellar. A foul smell emitted from it but Jin had no choice. He vanished into the darkness and clung to what light he could.

The noises above and what Jin found below lead to some horrifying realizations. Someone was being tortured above. Brutally tortured their blood leaked through the deadwood. Below Jin sat forced to listen to their cries of pain amongst a ton of corpses. They were the source of the stench. The torturing went on for hours or sometimes days before the victim died. Jin was too afraid to leave. He got hungry too. Gracefully it rained a few nights. Salvaging that water was how he remained hydrated. Jin's hunger made him delirious. His mind was driving to dark corners. Soon all he could think of was surviving. It was then he realized he'd been surrounded with an overabundance of food. Jin did what he had to. It wasn't healthy, nutritious, but it kept him alive. His body was weak but it continued on. He lived like this for a while. Deep in the abyss scrounging off of what little light he could. He believed he was clinging to the light to survive these dark times when he'd actually begun to meld into the darkness.

+ Reveal: Chapter 2: When the Abyss looked back.

Time went by. A terrible storm brewed one night. The heavens shook it was so fierce. The lightning provided flickers of light. Jin actually got to see the bodies and more. He found a Noh Mask; Kishin. Jin stopped and thought about his family. He questioned why such a fate had to befall them. He cursed the wars, the shinobi, the clans out there, but most of all he cursed himself. Rage, sadness, guilt, Jin felt them all and his mental state was even further destabilized. He blacked out but there was a small light he focused on. The light came to him and he awoke upstairs. Blood was around him. The bodies of shinobi lay at his feet. Jin didn't know what occurred but he was wearing the Kishin Mask. He took the mask off and felt a familiar sense flowing through it. The storm raged on and Jin too his leave of that hut. He took the Noh Mask with him and cherished it like it was family. Jin had been confined to the darkness of that cellar for some time. The wars were approaching their end. Jin became a wandering performer. He earned just enough to survive. But he was working his way to the nearest Hidden Village. He'd been masquerading as a psychic able to lift object seemingly with his mind. He was a wonder and refreshing sight to most with the emergence of the hidden villages. Jin was discovered around the edge of the Land of Lightning. He'd been hopeful that he'd run into a few shinobi sooner or later. When found he put on a 'psychic' performance for them. Jin revealed to them after their inability to ascertain how he was performing these psychic abilities. Jin explained that when he put his mask on a beast was at his back. The shinobi didn't understand but it involved chakra somehow, strange chakra, but chakra none the less.

Jin was lead to the Land of Lightning and his abilities caught the interest of the Raikage. It was suggested that he become a Cloud Shinobi. Jin agreed rather jovially. He managed to prove himself at a rather young age. First as a Genin then again as a Chuunin. All the while his being became surrounded in mystery, in darkness. His abilities were feared and couldn't be comprehended. His mask gained him the nickname "Shadow Walker". Due to this he was often left alone. He did missions alone. He was rather proficient by himself. But Jin needed to be watched. Recently he'd returned from a rather long mission. Upon his return he'd been told that he was to be assigned to a team. Jin once again jovially agreed. Much about the young man is a mystery. He'd spoke to no one. He kept to himself and spent his time either meditating or on missions. Jin however seems to be coming out of his bubble. What he wants out of life is uncertain. What has the abyss wrought?

Personality

In his childhood Jin was a inquisitive and innocent young boy. He was lead by his boundless curiosity and only judged something after he learned about it. He was a gifted performer having a talent for story telling and acting. Jin held a plethora of tender emotions and thoughts. His only desire was to enjoy life but with the death of his family and the events that transpired afterwards his mind was drastically warped.
After emerging from the cellar with his Noh Mask Jin was different, to say the least. He had spent years in darkness only concerned with survival. He had a shred of decency left but as the years progressed he only used it to manipulate or blend in with others. He's cold and without filter. He'll say what he feels but never lies. He will twist the truth or obscure it if necessary. There seems to be no hesitation in his thought or decision making. While cunning he does seem to possess a bit of childishness. He doesn't like not having things go his way. He can be spiteful and vindictive. He also has a dark sense of humor that he will enact on others with no regards for ethics. He follows his own rules and his rules only but can be appealed to, though extremely difficult. Despite all of this Jin's best characterized as unpredictable.

Appearance

Jin has had long scarlet hair ever since he was a child. He stands at 5'10" garbed in robes which fit his form loosely. His eyes are a soft yet haunting yellow and his hair is usually fashioned in a raised ponytail. The front yields two long bangs which he sometimes fashions into braids. The bangs frame his delicate yet pale face. His pale skin seems spectral nearly and his lips are an icy light blue. He has an intricate design of a dark crescent moon on his face. His body frame is slim, incredibly slim. Though a chuunin of Kumogakure the young man doesn't wear the flack vest. His headband can be seen in one of two locations. Slung around the neck or blindfolding the eyes. His pants usually contrast his robes in color and are tucked into knee high black stirrups which match his black sandals.

Jin wears midnight blue eye liner. His fingernails and toenails are painted midnight blue as well and he wears an earring on the right ear of crescent moon with a star gem in the center. His facial features are a mix between ghostly and robust. His skin retains an ethereal paleness but his body seems robustly endowed with life. His Noh Mask is secured along his waist. The mask is of the Keishin type. It resembles an ogre woman with two long horns, beastly eyes, a white face, and long almost curling fangs.

Theme Song

A World Without Logos. The freedom gained when the orthodoxy is broken the norm shatters. Jin represents this freedom.

Akechi	Favorite Toy	Despite the sweet sometimes flirtatious attitude Jin displays in regards to Akechi he can't stand him. Akechi is seen as a Hero by Jin and Jin loathes Heroes. He wants kill Akechi eventually but not before Akechi suffers and realizes the futility of being a Hero.
Eri	Plaything	Eri is almost as loathed as Akechi is by Jin. However Jin can detect a speck of darkness or 'stain' in Eri and it leaves him to believe that she'll be tainted soon enough. He nurtures it for now attempting to bring out Eri's suffering to force her over the edge.
Kanbei	Investment	Jin hopes Kanbei becomes someone worth tormenting soon. He can see more than a fair share of darkness in this boy. He is the least hostile towards Kanbei due to his age. Unbeknownst to Jin, he has a bit of a soft spot for children…to a degree.

+ Show 11/11/12 - Entry #01: Meet the Neighbors

Kumogakure has been quiet up until this point. Some rather interesting character's have emerged. The first I happened upon would become the most loathsome yet entertaining playmate ever. Uzumaki Akechi. This pompous moron thinks himself a Hero. What a laugh. At ever corner he's there trying to do the right thing and save someone. I first met him on a bridge where I apprehended two thieves. I was well on my way to teaching them a lesson or two when Akechi showed up demanding that I let them go. Who does he think he is? They deserved whatever fate I had in store for them, even if they were young. But Mr. Hero felt differently. So I gave him an ultimatum. Protect the thieves or himself. Guess which one Mr. Hero chose? How droll. He has respectable abilities and power. But he's as sharp as a chipped toothpick. While he is boisterous because he has the upper hand now, I'd like to see his face when I introduce him to the darkness. All the others have a certain annoyance about them albeit not as pestering as Akechi's. There is this genjutsuist Eri. My first impression of her was that of a sultry wench. But turns out she's far more disgusting. She spews nothing but optimism and hope. You'd think she's never even gotten a glimpse of the darkness. Such a vile entity makes me sick to my stomach. She strings all the lesser males about like some sort of succubus. But I can see the stain on her soul. She had darkness, she's just hiding it. After her came some pretty rudimentary and uninteresting brutes and what not. However there is this child, Kanbei. The boy has a surprising amount of darkness at his age. If not for his fear he'd be someone worth tormenting. I think I'll do my best to nurture that darkness and help him…replace that fear.

+ Show 11/14/12 - Entry #02: For You Whom Chose Regret

At the monastery I ventured to validate the purity of such a place. People have a tendency to give unto phenomenon the title of 'holy' or 'blessed' simply because there is no clear ration behind it. Here I ran into that woman Eri. She was performing rather promiscuously with the monks for her own amusement. She apparently didn't approve of my intentions and we had a bout. Her genjutsu is potent alas that is her only strength. She did manage to show me something I had long since buried. For that I offered her gratitude….and eternal suffering. She spared me even though I assured her torment. Perhaps it was some misguided sense of self righteousness or perhaps she's a glutton. She's made her ties to her friends and comrades painfully obvious. Her compassion for all things is her greatest weakness. I offer her nothing short of damnation. And yet she insists that I deserve a 'chance.' To feast upon the regret in her soul as I take all that is dear from her is my plan for her. Should I push her to the point where she gives into her darkness then victory is truly mine.

+ Show 11/20/12 - Entry #03: The Hunter

I stumbled upon Eri and the Hunter. They seemed to have become rather….close to each other. Oh what a wonderful thing love is. It's even more magnificent to sever that bond. But it seems I won't have to do much work. The Hunter is already making his way down a dark path. It's inevitable for one that hunts beasts. I could see it his rage has yet to be tapped into but once I extort that rage his true nature will be revealed. His descent will be one of the largest contributors to Eri's suffering. But first I must lure him away from all eyes that would otherwise put a damper on my plans.
I found Ayumo training in the training fields. It was a good opportunity to goad him. So I did. He went on about some nonsense that hunters only think like beast enough to trick and manipulate them. I could only taunt and tease him for his naivety. His arrogance shall be his undoing. I've planted the seed and while much of my own blood was shed he failed to follow through and kill me. He too shall taste regret. His portion however will be far more bitter. A hunter that thinks himself different from a beast needs to be made aware of his misconception. He will be put down like a beast and as an offering to Eri's suffering.

+ Show 11/23/12 - Entry #04: Nostalgia

Children are more annoying than I recall. After sustaining damage from my first encounter with the Hunter I ran into some youths outside of the academy. There were two in particular that stuck out. One of them was a loud mouth girl. I thought Eri was difficult to listen too but within a few moment this young lady gave me more of a….vicious inclining than Eri has in the weeks that I've known her. Then came a pudgy young boy. He approached me rather enthusiastically and was truly inquisitive about everything. The amount of questions that escaped his mouth in but what seemed like a few seconds was insurmountable. I am unable to determine whether he's incredibly thick headed or brave…or perhaps a strange mixture of both, but he was only impressed or interested with my 'performance'. Even when I revealed to him the nature of my Noh Mask he only grew more theatrical and whimsical. The loud mouth girl watched over him or so it appeared. She was concern for his safety whereas in his mind it appeared safety was the furthest thing from his concern. Their interaction with one another stuck me as oddly familiar. It's as if I could relate to the situation more than I, at the time, understood. What was most nostalgic though was the boy. Sanado he said his name was. He aspires for great things. This inquisitive and optimistic little boy reminds me of someone that…that I've forgotten.
