Namikaze Nonon was born in the Land of Wind to a Reizei father and a kunoichi of a 'Clan' more akin to a common family name than a true Clan. Most of this 'Clan' were civilians, not ninja. Yet the Namikaze frequently wound up being intermarrying with those Clanned, when ninja chose to wed villagers and civilians instead of other ninja, leading to even further confusion about whether the Namikaze were a ninja Clan or not.
At least in this case, they both were experience with the rigours of battle. Further, they were tired of them. The Clan Wars were nearing the conclusion, but they didn't know that at the time. And as a Reizei looking to abandon his Clan and warfare forever, he and the ninja he fell in love with travelled as far as they could to escape pursuit after faking their deaths. Eventually, they settled in the Land of Wind, taking up civilian existences. Unfortunately, their brief time of peace with their daughter who was born shortly before the formation of the Hidden Villages, came to a violent close.
For about three years, Nonon's family lived together, before the fact that Reizei Goro was still alive led to the newly formly Kumogakure, under the leadership of Takahashi Raikou, to send people to hunt him down and eliminate him. Her policy of extermination in regard to traitors was absolute. Even people who had never sworn loyalty to Kumogakure were potential targets. When the assassins appeared, Goro and his wife, Namikaze Saiyuri, fought them off as best they could while also still protecting their daughter. It was not easy, and thanks to the combined skill sets of the assassins, something that Goro, who had dropped out of armed conflict before having to learn how to cope with multiple Clans working together failed to adapt to, Nonon's father was slain in battle. Her mother managed to get her out of there, but she didn't have the same speed as her husband, and they soon caught up to her as well.
Saiyuri was not a Reizei or even connected to Kumogakure except by who she had married, but she and her daughter were 'loose ends' that could not be allowed to remain undealt with. After all, they might come seeking revenge in time, and if Nonon manifested the powers of the Reizei later on, then that would render the entire operation to keep the Kekkei Genkai of the Hidden Lightning under control meaningless.
Fortunately, her mother was a seals expert, who managed to fake their own death in a mix of explosive tags and a Seal that swallowed the point in space-time she occupied, killing her and several pursuers.
Nonon, however, survived. Hidden with a cloaking barrier, which released her only after no other significant Chakra sources were detected within range. Then, and only then, was Nonon able to wander out into the wilderness of the Land of Rivers, frightened and alone. Despite being only about three and a half years old, by good fortune and what little she had learned from her parents (which was barely enough to keep back some wild animals and would have been useless in real combat), she managed to stay alive long enough to be found by an old man out in the woods. He rescued her from being eaten by wolves, and took her back to his cottage where his wife lived. The elderly couple nursed Nonon back to health, and she gradually forgot all about her real parents, except in occasional dreams. She couldn't remember anything about her home, and all attempts by the forest-dwelling old folk to find her family failed.
Thus, she spent the next six years of her life with them, living in simple, austere surroundings, working and playing in nature, and never suspecting the power that she secretly carried inside of her blood.
Nonon encountered shinobi of the Hidden Leaf once while getting supplies and groceries from town. Her adoptive parents (or grandparents, as the case may be) were getting on in years, and were unable to fend for themselves very well. They piqued her interest. Further, when she noticed them in pursuit of enemy ninja, on her way back from town, she made a fateful decision. She put the groceries aside in some tree branches, and her natural
aptitudes that had developed passively simply through surviving in the forest, allowed her to follow after them. She knew how to hide, and to negate her own 'presence' in order to hunt and to observe animals without being noticed herself. This allowed her to tail the ninja somewhat. Enough to watch the ensuing battle.
However, her concealment was not perfect, and when the fighting was over and she snapped out of her amazement long enough to try to leave, she was noticed by a Hyuuga. They initially thought her to be a spy of some kind or reinforcements for the enemy, but they soon found out that wasn't the case. Nonon's adoptive grand father had come out looking for her, and drawn by the sounds of fighting, showed up just in time to vouch for her.
The Leaf Ninja, deciding they had nothing further to gain from continuing this, moved to return to their Village and their own country. But Nonon called out to them.
"Wait!" she yelled.
The Hyuuga who had found her stopped and turned to face her briefly.
"How can I become a ninja?" Nonon asked.
"You could always obtain training at a Hidden Village. We are ninja of the Hidden Leaf, in the Land of Fire." And with that, he went after the others.
Though Nonon's grandpa got her home safely, and tried to discourage her from such a dangerous profession. But not only did visions of amazing ninja dashing to and fro, fighting in the moonlight, clashing blades and graceful movements, all dance through her head when she tried to sleep that night, but she understood the mortality of her grandfather and grandmother. They were getting so old they needed a 9-year old to look after them. They needed
to live somewhere they could get the care they needed, and be kept safe. Out here in the woods… Well, it had been made quite clear that out here wasn't as safe as they'd thought.
It took much work, but Nonon eventually convinced them they had to move, for their own safety and happiness. They packed up everything they had, said goodbye to their home, and went east to the Land of Fire. Eventually, after a long journey, they arrived in Konohagakure. And there, at age 10, Nonon enlisted in their ninja academy.
Nonon proved to be incredibly gifted, but a large part of it was that she was already skilled and physically capable from her survival-oriented life in nature, combine with the powers of her Bloodline. She gained a reputation for considerable swiftness and rapid reaction time, and quickly learned not only the basics of Hidden Leaf ninjutsu, but also Elemental Ninjutsu as well. However, she was small, slight. Somewhat frail despite her other abilities. She had no experience with Genjutsu, and struggled to learn its intricacies. Even so, when conflict with Kirigakure came after her rather quick graduation to Genin, she fought alongside others to put down the danger, proving to have a quick, analytical mind that let her gauge the capabilities of both enemies and allies, and "match" opponents and environments to maximimize their chances of success. When the odds were against them, she learned to change the battle conditions, such as by turning an enclosed speed into an open one with explosives, to mark enemies using mist to hide from Uchiha allies or use area attacks to corral them. All manner of tactics she had to devise on the spot in accordance with the flow of battle.
And that is how she proved herself capable enough that, when the conflict ended, she was promoted to Chuunin. Now, not even 16 years old, she has been assigned to Team Rinoko, one of two squads that comprise Konohagakure's new
"Team 13". The joint operations sensor unit can use all the versatility and experience it can get in showing that this experimental dual-squad type team can work. With Nonon's grand parents living safe and sound in peace and quiet in the very "natural setting" of the Hidden Leaf, she has neither a desire nor the right to refuse after the gift she has been given.
But still, even though the conflicts, the deaths, and the loss of allies have had an impact on her, what bothers her most of all… Is when she sees the symbol of Kumogakure on the hita-ite of one of Konohagakure's allies, and when she has oddly melancholic dreams of a man and woman she can not identify, in a time frame she has no reference for in her memories… Yet.
