Background
Tatsuo was born into the Nara clan shortly after the end of the wars and the creation of the Hidden Villages. His birth was a complicated one and because of that his mother died when he was born. Tatsuo was the only child born to his parents and so from right off the bat there was high standards set for him by his father. If his mother had been sacrificed so that he could live then he must be meant to grow up to be great. Otherwise his father would consider his birth a waste. This should tell you the type of person his father was; a perfectionist and one of the clans best fighters. He held a place on their council and found it very important on how he was viewed by others. Pressure was put on Tatsuo from the moment he took his first breath.
At first he met his father's expectations. By the age of six months he was talking, by eight months he was using full sentences. Though his mental aptitude seemed to be above that of even the average Nara, his body was another story. Once he started to grow into his first full year it was obvious his frame was not one usually preferred for fights. Thin arms and legs, narrow shoulders, all of it pointed immediately to his physical prowess being lower than normal. Despite his obvious intelligence, this was seen as a pure negative by his father. Because of this Tatsuo was given lessons in physical fitness from an early age, basically once he could walk. While this did have some benefits it did not change the fact that he could only fill out so much.
By the age of four Tatsuo was already reading books beyond simple kids books. While his father was away from the house either working with the clan council or on a mission, Tatsuo would go into his study and read his books. He quickly became interested in a particular variety of said books, that being based around battle preparedness, strategy, and maneuvering. While he didn't understand much of the books at first it still fascinated him and, over the years, he quickly learned what it all meant. Not only that, but he was able to start applying some of it to his everyday life. As would happen his father eventually discovered he'd rather be reading than doing the assigned strength training and he was beaten. From then on he would always have someone watching over him, whether it was a nanny or a member of the Clan. He was still allowed to read books, but they were on individual fighting ability specifically instead of the grander scheme. However Tatsuo was hard-headed and strong willed and snuck in other books that were more to his liking here and there.
At the age of five Tatsuo had begun to show an affinity towards ninjutsu and his father had thought it time to begin teaching him the Clan's secret shadow manipulation techniques. Despite his ability at using general ninjutsu the young boy had a lot of trouble with the Clans techniques. He could manipulate the shadows but it took far more effort than any other of his ninjutsu would and his father would constantly berate him for his slowness and failure in proper control. Like Tatsuo himself, his father couldn't understand how his general ninjutsu and chakra control could be so great, yet he couldn't perform these tasks without a greater effort. Tatsuo was sword to secrecy on these facts so that it wouldn't put his father in a bad light with anyone in the Clan. It was from this moment that Tatsuo began to become an outcast of sorts from not only the Clan, but his father.
As he continued to age Tatsuo trained hard in other abilities - taijutsu, shadow manipulation - but it was all lackluster in the end. However his mental aptitude continued to grow faster than most others and his thought process was quick and concise. He excelled in school thanks to this and while his fighting remained below average his intelligence propelled him onwards. His father continued to push for specifics when it came to his training and even went so far as to order Tatsuo to stop reading so much until his physical abilities grew. However Tatsuo's will was strong and he began defying his father after years of trying to please him. While he would do his training, he would also take the time to read the books he wanted and would sometimes even miss a lesson because of it. Tatsuo didn't mind this however as he tended to be a loner and, while he would talk to people if necessary, would rather avoid crowds and people in general.
Because of, in his father's opinion, his 'inability to properly fight', Tatsuo was withheld from the Academy for a number of years. It wasn't until the age of ten that, after constantly bashing heads with his father, he was allowed to attend. Despite his fighting ability he still wanted to become a shinobi as really that's what his father wanted. Of course he wanted a strong, hero like shinobi of a son that would strike down hundreds of enemies with a single blow. What he ended up with instead was a son who was already growing tall for his age and remained lanky. What muscle he had was not massive in any way and he remained toned and trim without really filling out. This proved difficult in the Academy for 'spars' as he generally did not perform well in the physical ones. Yet the ninjutsu 'spars' he was able to at least hold his own even if he only won a very few of them. In academics, however, he continued to excel and outshined all the other students.
His mental aptitude and lackluster fighting again came back to haunt him throughout the Academy, however, as much like his father and Clan, he was shunned by the students for not being a fighter and only a thinker. Students made fun of him, teachers trade to make him quit and go to a school for solely battle strategy, but he refused and fought on. He intended to show his father he could be a shinobi and could also lead in battle should such a time arise. Again in this he was hard-headed and strong willed and eventually they stopped asking him. However because of the teasing and disinterest of others his introverted nature only became more so and he spent most of the time alone during breaks and recess, reading.
In the end, at the age of twelve, Tatsuo did graduate from the Academy with flying colors in Academics and ninjutsu abilities. In physical and taijutsu he was passable but only just barely. But it was enough for him because he had succeeded where he'd been told he couldn't. Despite this success his father remained unimpressed with his failure of a son and was only partially pleased because it shone good on him that his son had graduated despite his 'deficencies' with fighting and the Clan's techniques. His father was praised for things he didn't do such as pushing his son despite his 'problems' and sticking with him. Tatsuo said nothing to anyone and let his father take the credit he wanted so badly while he did what he was best at - reading.
Personality
Tatsuo has always been a very introverted kid. He tends to speak slowly, thinking about his words before voicing them. Tatsuo will generally not be the first one to make contact with people he doesn't know, and even those he does know it takes a little extra time for him to get involved. Once involved, however, he slowly starts to warm up to the people around him that he knows. Once he's truly comfortable with someone he'll be more likely to speak fully and with less pauses, and has even been known to get into a friendly debate over some topics.
Appearance
Tatsuo is a youth of approximately twelve years of age and about of average height at a little over five foot. The boy is of an average frame and appears to be of a toned build. Dark eyes spark with an intelligence that seems to be greater than his age would show. Unlike most Nara his hair is not back in a ponytail though it had once been. Instead it hands flat in loose strangs on top of his head. His clothing is simple, a grey mesh undershirt overlaid with a black shirt. He wears black trousers with a few patches strapped in various locations. Some extra pockets are also sewn into the trousers for various items. Standard shinobi shoes are worn on his feet. The youth wears his Konoha hitai-ate around his bicep, showing him to be a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf.

I still don’t know quite how it happened. I’m not sure I even know entirely what happened. I was never the best, or the strongest, or the friendliest, or the…well I was never the best at anything. So how come I was chosen? However it happened it did. And I accepted. My father was proud when he found out, perhaps the first time he’s ever actually been proud of me for anything. I’m not certain exactly how I feel about that. Is this what it required to earn his pride? Something so far unexpected and unlikely that only by great luck and chance it came upon me? All questions I don’t know the answer to. I only have one real important question now anyways, and that is will I survive.
When I next wake up, I won’t just be me anymore. I will be one with the three tails. I will be a Jinchuuriki.
It’s been weeks since Isobu and I became one. It was as I suspect hell to be. Pain and torment and a constant struggle as the seals were placed. While the pain has subsided the struggle remains. The seals are strong and most of the time they manage to keep Isobu at bay, but at times I find him trying to gain control of my body. I can keep him back for now but it’s tiring. I’m afraid that if I get too tired I might not be able to stop him. I’m afraid that if I fail I will be even more of a disappointment to my father. I won’t let myself fail. I will find some way to do this.
I got to meet with Hokage-dono and he and I together spoke with Isobu. Or, well, we talked to Isobu even if he didn’t want to talk back. After the lesson I spent a lot of time sitting with Isobu. He doesn’t really talk much, and I get the sense that he doesn’t really like me, but so far I don’t think he’s tried anything really bad. At least not that I know of. He still tries to take control sometimes but it doesn’t seem like it was before. I can draw on some of his chakra now, which is both frightening and amazing. It’s a great power, but it feels often overwhelming. I hope we can at least try and get along.
It’s the second time I’ve met with Hokage-dono now and we’re trying to get Isobu to work with me more so that I can use more of his chakra. But…well he’s being kind of mean about it. I understand that he’s upset with being trapped. I know the feeling. But if we work together at least we could make a kind of life out of it. He took over while we trained, but the Hokage managed to subdue the chakra. I’m glad he gave me more of the seals. I’m going to need them if I’m going to keep training. I just hope that Isobu will eventually start to work with me. Otherwise this whole thing is going to be one big disaster…and I’ll be one big disappointment.
I decided that I wanted to be able to help people more. Isobu is in me, and I know he can cause a lot of harm…whether I lose control or just in practice. So I asked Kenta-sama if he would teach me medical ninjutsu and he agreed! I know it's just more to do and more to learn but I think it will be good. Plus medical ninjutsu helps with chakra control according to all the books I've read, so it'll also help with that!
There was a problem in the training grounds today. I saw Zori, the Genin who's always been mean to everyone else and even hurt some other Genin, like Kyu-senpai. Well he started trying to talk to me and I told him I didn't trust him because of what he'd done and he said he didn't remember. Then he started taunting me and, well, I got mad. I didn't even know it happened but Isobu took control and started attacking him for me. I think he was trying to help me but…well, it just kind of made things worse. Luckily Kurome-sama was nearby and able to use one of Hokage-dono's seals. After that I just needed some rest. Still not sure about Zori though. I guess he ran off afterwards…
My father has never been all that nice. At least not to me. He was always been very strict with me ever since I was born and demanded everything be perfect so that he could show the world his perfect son. It was hard, but I didn't want to dissapoint anyone so I tried. I just usually couldn't live up to his expectations.
When I was chosen to be Isobu's host he was proud but that didn't stop him from being strict. It's just now he could show me off to his high ranking friends and feel important. Well…anyways. I finally had enough when he was yelling at me and I left. Kenta-sama found me and after talking to Atsuro-sama I was able to stay with Kenta-sama. But then my father came looking for me with some other higher ranking Nara. If it wasn't for Atsuro-sama and Kenta-sama I don't know what he would have to me he was so angry. But now because he was threatening me Atsuro-sama says he's in jail. Not only that but because of how bad he treated me. I didn't think I'd ever feel so relieved. Even Isobu is happy that there's no more stress and that I stood up for myself. It made me feel better, and even braver. Isobu helped…I don't know if he meant to, but everything he's done so far in testing me helped me to finally feel like I didn't need to stay in that bad place anymore.
It had been a while since I'd seen Hokage-dono, but he summoned me again and after talking about some of the stuff I've been doing he wanted to try and have me draw on more of Isobu's chakra. Um, Isobu was a bit annoyed and argued a little, but in the end he relented and I was able to draw on the chakra. But it was so strong! I didn't expect it at all. It seems like it's so much more than just the first tail and I think it's going to take some time to get used to it. I was able to pull out of it though without help, mostly because Isobu and I have a kind of truce right now. I do owe him for helping me be…braver. I'm just not sure what I can really do besides be as nice as I can…maybe I should ask Hokage-dono…
My training in medic ninjutsu has increased greatly over the last few months. With Kenta-sama's help and the help of his grandmother I have been able to learn a lot about the body and techniques that can be used to help the body. With that knowledge I've started working on filling some water with my healing chakra in an attempt to be able to heal from a short distance and quickly. I don't know if it's really possible but I'm going to keep trying. If it doesn't work maybe I can learn some more of Kenta-sama's technique. As long as I can keep helping people to make up for any damage that Isobu may have done in the past…
Ever since the events with my father I've avoided returning to the Nara Village beyond gathering my things to move into Kenta-sama's house. Besides that I hadn't exactly been avoiding other Nara but…without going to the VIllage it wasn't as if I saw many of them just walking around. That all changed when I ran into a Nara on a mission that I hadn't seen for some time. Nara Shugo. He was in the Academy around the same time as I was and…I only remember he didn't try very hard. But he was very nice to me then and he was now too. He even offered to help with anything if I needed it. I guess not all the Nara dislike me, just a certain few of them. It's good to have a friend from my clan again.
I lead a mission we were assigned to go check out a strange slab of marble that had appeared in the Land of Hot Water. When we arrived others had been there as well, but then we ran into some other shinobi while we were investigating the slab. They destroyed it, but luckily we'd gotten a rubbing of it before that happened so we could continue our investigation. At first it made no sense, but a few days later I got Isobu to admit to understanding it. It's some kind of strange riddle in a mostly unknown language. I plan to ask Kenta-sama and Atsuro-sama for help with this. I'm not even sure where to begin. It seems to talk about directions and time and a certain place to be, but where is it, and what happens if we don't get there in time?
Yet again Hokage-dono summoned me to come work on training with Isobu. And by summon I mean he knocked on my window very early in the morning and said we were going to the Temple of Fire for training with Isobu. I wasn't really sure what to expect when he said that. The Temple of Fire? I'd never been there before! It was just was amazing as I expected it to be and the monks were friendly…for the most part.
Once Hokage told them to test me they did, very much so, and while I was a bit worried to push so far I talked with Isobu and he agreed to help me some. I'm not sure what it's called, what happened, but I transformed into a version of /him/ and the power, the chakra, it was amazing! There was so much. With this I can definitely protect people. I just need to make sure he'll continue to not fight me and…maybe we can come to some kind of agreement.
Since I began using more of Isobu's power it's brought us closer together. Not that it's entirely a good thing. While he doesn't actively fight me for control anymore he can still be rather annoying and…pesky. There are times when we go out to the training grounds and I let him have a little free time, but I keep a close leash on things. I think he enjoys a little bit of freedom and if it keeps him from fighting me whenever I use his chakra than all the better! I know there's more training yet to do…but I also know that final step is a big one. I don't know when or even if I'll be ready for it…
There was a mission today to save a town from flooding. A downpour had come out of nowhere and was flooding a river but only in a certain area. Needless to say the team consisted of but one water user and that was me. While the others on the team worked to evacuate the village itself I had to keep the water at bay. I managed to do so at first and diverted it away with my own strength. But then I needed to call on Isobu's power to help. In the end we were able to make a diversion using the water itself to carve a temporary path. Some of the houses may have a little water damage, but nothing got washed away and no one got hurt! A success, even if a tiring one in the end.
I continue to train in my medical ninjutsu and I've learned yet another new technique. While I've been able to use water as a medium for healing and transferring of regenerative chakra I didn't have any knowledge of how to restore energy itself to a person. Luckily, after speaking with some other medical ninjutsuists and doing a lot of reading I learned a new technique to help invigorate my patient if they're in need of an energy boost to get through the procedure. Or, if the times are worse, then to help them to get back into a fight with a quick influx of energy. I hope I never have to use it for that but only time will tell. At least I have it ready, just in case.
I was quite surprised when Shugo showed up at the hospital the other day. At first I thought he might be ill or injured but he assured me he wasn't. He actually wanted to start learning about medical ninjutsu and the human body. Considering the rumors even I recall about him from the other Nara (before I left them and the Nara village behind…) he is quite lazy and, mmm…well, he likes to take shortcuts. But he seemed truly interested and so I taught him basic field first aid. Wrapping bandages and similar things. I told him to practice that and gave him books even on how the body works. If he's really so eager and can get through those books then I don't see a reason he can't learn! Now, how to convince him Kenta-sama would really be a better teacher…
Kenta-sama had received an invitation to be a speaker at a medical convention! Of course I was quite curious to see him speak so I went with him, and even Atsuro-sama and Taizen-sama came with us. It was all going well until we got to the place the meeting was supposed to be held. There wasn't anyone there at first…but then we found people who worked there and found out it was a trap! There was a gas released but I managed to block it from us. It was the bugs that really worried me. They had a deadly bite and their blood was highly flammable. We almost burned. Luckily we managed to escape and saved the few people who were there. I'm glad that Atsuro-sama was there, because he and Taizen-sama saved us.
When Shugo had first asked me for training and I should him some basic first aid I expected that would be it. He didn't seem the type to really want to learn. I thought he was just excited to try but then that was it. But then he wanted to learn more. I remembered one of the first lesson that Kenta-sama gave us and so decided to teach Shugo-kun the same way. I had some large roaches that were in a hibernative state because of the cold and we worked to see inside of them with diagnostic jutsu, then to affect their metabolism. It took a little time but in the end Shugo-kun was able to affect the beatles. If he continues learning this well then he will become a great medic. Even better than me.
After our 'adventure' with the fake medical convention Kenta-sama realized that whoever set the trap is the same that's been testing something on animals in the Land of Fire. As such he took a few of the bugs that were still alive and we ran extensive tests on them. They were infected just as the animals were with what appeared to be the same virus. Kenta-sama had made some various antidotes previously and so we tried them out on the bugs. Two of them were too slow or ineffective…but we did find one that worked to kill the virus. Unfortunately we don't know what effect it will have on an actual animal until we can capture another one to try it…
As time passes I speak more and more with Isobu when I have the time. We're slowly coming to understand one another and, while he still is mad being stuck inside of me, we're both trying to make the best of it. He has helped me to learn more about advanced water manipulation and I think he's actually coming to be okay with things. He understands that I have no intention of doing anything foolish and I will protect myself and him to the best of my ability. I think we may be able to agree on things more or less now. But one of my fears is he's only doing it to gain my trust. I haven't told anyone my thoughts on that, especially not Isobu, but I can't help but feel that way. I hope it's not true, but I have to be safe. I'll keep talking to him and see if I can sense any falsehood in him…
I've continued to spend more time with Isobu, both speaking with him internally as well as working with him and his chakra. While he is still greatly displeased with the fact that he's locked away within me, we have a sort of mutual respect for each other. As time passes I know that I need to show I trust Isobu more just as he's begun putting some of his trust in me. So, late one night when the lake was empty, I let him have control and swim. I can't rightly recall how long we were out there, but I know that he just swam and didn't try to cause any trouble. I think it was a good step and I hope we continue working so well together…
It had been a while since I'd seen Hokage-dono, but then one day I received a scroll with a mission assignment. I met the Hokage at the Village gates expecting some type of training like we used to do, but instead we were to go on a mission together. Just the two of us. Obviously it was quite nerve-racking since I knew Hokage-dono would be watching me closely the entire time. It was also a surprise when I found out what we'd be doing. We were going to scare off some bandits so that they wouldn't stay in our land anymore. I expected Hokage-dono to do it while I watched but he made /me/ do it! I tried to scare them off using Isobu's chakra and some water tricks since I didn't really want to hurt them but it didn't go over so well. In the end Hokage-dono came in and scared them all off with help from Son Goku. They…roared? It was a loud sound and a large chakra blast, but that's the closest comparison I can think of. I need to work on that for next time. If there is a next time. I failed Hokage-dono this time. Will there be a next time?
Kenta-sama had finally tracked down the people infecting animals to make them grow very large and also make them attack people. We had the antidote which was good, although most of the creatures in the past had really thick hides. Luckily I had planned for this and practiced making syringes out of my water. That way I could put all the force I needed behind it. It worked better than I expected too and we saved all the remaining animals and captured the man who had created them.
This is where things got a little strange. Many months ago when we were attacked and they tried to kill Kenta-sama a little bit of Isobu's chakra was absorbed and drawn away. It wasn't anything that mattered at the time. But then we found out what it was used for. The man had infused the chakra into a sea turtle and was planning on doing horrible things with it. Isobu sensed his chakra though, and he partially took over when I didn't expect it, but it was only to absorb back what was his. In the end the baby turtle remained. I decided to keep it for now. Isobu could have killed it while absorbing the fragmented chakra but he didn't, so maybe he likes it too?
It was late one night and the lake was empty except for a few people swimming. Isobu had been telling me what was possible by drawing more of his chakra and he challenged me to try it. I didn't realize at the time, but…he really was being a little manipulative to try and get me to do it. Maybe so he could attempt another escape? But he didn't try. So…maybe to try and get me to trust him more?
Well, anyways, after the two people got out of the lake I drew on a large portion of Isobu's chakra and was able to raise all the water in the lake to float a few feet above the lake bed. It didn't last long before I had to put it back and it did drain me pretty good. But the worst part was that the figures who'd been in the water was Atsuro-sama and Taizen-sama. Then Kenta-sama saw it too from the shore. They helped me home, but I think I might be in trouble…I guess I should have asked first…oops…
I was out doing some training the other day when I spotted Isura-kun fishing at the lake. I hadn't seen him in some time so I went to visit with him. Now I know that some people like to fish, including Kenta-sama, but for some reason I could never get into the thought of just sitting there and waiting for a fish to bite when you could actively be trying to catch one! Maybe it's just because it's easy for me, since I can have the water just spit out the fish I want. Well, Isura-kun said that was cheating, but if it's something I can do it can't really be treating…right?
There was a ship that was traveling on a river in the Land of Fire. I guess it had been carrying various chemicals and even some poisons! I'm not entirely sure why it was carrying all those things, but it was and so when it crashed into something a bunch of stuff started leaking. Things only got more complicated when we found out some of it was explosive! Luckily Kenta-sama was there and could use his seals to help keep everything contained but first we had to get into the ship. I was able to move us through the water and everything was okay. After Kenta-sama sealed up anything dangerous and we left the ship I was able to move it out of the water. Kenta-sama set up a giant seal to keep it safe on land while workers took care of everything else inside. I was even able to clean out the river water but it took some time. But better to be safe I think!
I received a mission to go check on a small village that had their water source suddenly disappear. It was a small river that ran right by their village and provided much of the water for their crops and other every day tasks. It was a rush mission and Kenta-sama was busy, so I managed to get Shugo-kun to go with me. When we arrived the village was deserted completely. We found out someone had kidnapped the villagers and used them to have some shinobi come out with the intent to kill them. Well, it didn't really work so well in his favor. Luckily we found the villagers and most were okay. I was able to heal some of the others. Only a few were already dead…sad. I was able to re-divert the water back down it's original path as well so the village is once again it's normal self. Shugo-kun managed to capture the man who did it all and we brought him back to Konoha to face trial.
What started off as a nice relaxing trip to gather some herbs turned into quite an event! While I was searching for a specific fern I heard a voice far out in the forest. It was a mother who had been out with her son who was now missing! Of course I had to help her and, after a little searching, I found her son stuck in a tree with a giant bear below! Her cubs were in the tree as well which explains why the bear was so angry. I saved the boy, then the cubs, and the mother took the cubs away. I reunited the boy with his mother as well and they were very happy. Of course I was happy to help them and after that little adventure I finished finding my herbs and still made it home in time for dinner! It was a good day.
It's been almost two years since Isobu and I were joined together and it's been…interesting…as time has gone on. When I first talked to him with the Hokage he was very upset and wouldn't discuss anything with me. He snapped a lot and hid in the shadows of the inner world. He would fight for control every second of every day and when he won he would do damage to the area and people. But as time passed we started to come to more of an understanding. He stopped fighting me, and in return sometimes, late at night, I would let him have control for a short time so that he could swim around the lake. We talked more the other day and I think we've really come to an understanding. While we'll never be friends, we have respect for each other, and that may just be enough.
I had been specially requested by some villagers to go out and help with a problem they had. Their nearby stream had dried up and they needed help finding out why, and they asked for me by name. Luckily Atsuro-sama and Kenta-sama were there with me because it turned out to be anything but a normal mission. The 'villagers' were really hired goons who were told to try and kidnap me. Luckily with Atsuro-sama and Kenta-sama there it wasn't such an easy task. We managed to subdue the majority of the people and were even able to bring some back to interogate. Unfortunately the leader managed to escape. We brought back a few of them and interrogated them, but we had a traitor in the village and he killed them. Then he kidnapped me. But I was saved.
While I was kidnapped the man had me unconscious with special tags. I was in the inner world and was able to talk with Isobu. It was odd and he seemed to be acting a little different than normal. Almost like he was being more thoughtful and careful with what he was saying and doing. While people tried to save me on the outside Isobu came up with a plan from within. With enough chakra we could burn the seals away that were keeping me asleep. So we made a deal. I had been thinking of a way to broach the subject with Isobu anyways, so it was kind of good timing even if it was a bad situation. Now Isobu and I are true partners. We share chakra and he gives freely of his chakra now. We still aren't exactly friends, but we do both respect each other enough to make it work. He doesn't want to be forced to move again any time soon anyways, so it all kind of worked out. I'm just glad we're able to finally get along without fighting.
After quite a bit of time in between lessons I was able to finally give Shugo his final official medic lesson. At least on the basic medical ninjutsu items that are required to be known by anyone who wants to practice it. There's still a lot more advanced medic lessons that I'll go over with him. If he wants to…I'm not sure that he'll want to keep coming back for lessons now that he knows the basics. It didn't seem like he wanted to work in the hospital or anything so maybe he's just…going to practice for use as a combat medic? I hope he'll learn more, because it's nice to have a Nara who actually talks to me and is nice to me. I guess I'll find out…
