Kanatar was born before the founding of the villages to the well known Senju Clan. His training started even before going to the academy and from a clan known for its mastery of each aspect, Kanatar seemed a bit lacking in the area of genjutsu, never quite getting the hang of it as easily as his cousins, instead he chose to turn his studies towards ninjutsu during the years before the Academy was built. He was a quick study and picked up easily on most things, though of course he could keep up with the genjutsu he was never really up to snuff in his own eyes, or the eyes of his peers he secretly wondered.
By the time the Academy opened Kanatar entered in its second year, already having all of the basic training require of the students he easily floated to the top of his class alongside someone he had known from his time with the clan a Karaken Zaruji, they became rivals of sorts during their stay in the school, their drive to one up each other helping them in their own training as well to better themselves. Come the end of the year Kanatar and Zaruji had passed the tests and had become genin at the age of eleven. He was placed in a team with Karaken Zaruji. Cold towards each other at first for their rivalry from school they soon found the need to bond and became friends over the following years, both could even be found on their off hours tearing through racks of ribs at the local bar-b-que.
It was during his years as a genin that Kanatar discovered and worked at his affinity to the element of water. Having of course known about the rivalry and following peace between the Senju and Uchiha one of the first jutsu Kanatar began to master was Hidden Mist, aside from the obvious benefit of helping avoid the gaze of a Sharingan user, Kanatar found that the jutsu also fit his style of fighting, giving him the room to breathe and test his opponent before coming up with a way to best deal with them. Studying hard under a Jounin of his clan he was pressed ever forward in his studies, with a combination of hands on experience and scrolls from his family's collections he had begun to learn making water clones and, now a personal favorite of his, the water prison technique. Not to just focus on one aspect of his studies he also recognized a weakness of his and studied the basics of taijutsu, learning to focus his chakra into quick boosts of speed. All before even thinking of taking the chuunin exam.
Though with the skills he had now he felt able to take on the chuunin exams with his team. Their team made it to the second round of the exam. But during a particularly brutal ambush in the caves the pair had managed to turn the fight around and almost win finding that their use of water and earth complimented each other well, especially in the cave system, though the fight had turned around Zaruji was injured enough in the fight to have to force their team to quit the field, handing over their scroll to the opposing team. For their use of strategy and planning during the fight, Kanatar and Zaruji were promoted to chuunin.
With the promotions his team fell apart around him, the others breaking off to take on solo missions or to lead squads of their own. Not letting that distract him he fell into taking solo missions and being assigned to various teams as a stand in or to lead a group of genin on the easier missions.
