Two sweet, naive little twins that are always at one another's side. Whether or not their innocence and virtue will survive in this world is hard to say, but their cheery dispositions make it easy for them to look for the best in people to find new friends to make. On the surface this works out perfectly, though, no one will ever be as close to them as they are to each other.

Background

Sisters of the Past

Kasai and Chiru's story starts some time before their birth, with their mother Kouki and her sister Yua. For many years these two like many of their clan were inseparable and before the villages formed they had the carefree life of delighting and disgusting young and old with fantastic displays of their melding and other death defying acts such as breathing out burning alcohol and scaling near impossible surfaces. It wasn't ever a steady source of money for them, but it was enough to earn them a few nights at different inns as they hopped from place to place. Sometimes they couldn't afford it, but they were just as happy camping out under the stars. There were hard times when food was short or others tried to pick on them as easy prey for thieves who felt they didn't do enough to earn their coin. They were taken care of swiftly and without mercy, and shortly after these acts of courage were witnessed, another facet of their life became acting as eccentric mercenaries for hire. Those jobs were rare in their life at first, but as conflicts grew across the nations, they started to see more bloodshed and less entertainment on their path ahead. This delighted Yua who had come to enjoy the life, but Kouki dreaded the thought of the magic and innocence of their youth leaving their lives. Still, seeing her sister happy was more than enough to help her muster up the energy to tolerate it.

A New Home and More?

This eventually caught the attention of Kiri's founding fathers and they were called over and promised a permanent place to sleep and all of the food and drink they could earn if they were to fight under their banner. The twins had to consider this over a few weeks, but the moment Kouki met with Gorou is what made up her mind. It was love at first sight when she met this Okumo hunter and it was returned as much if not more. He described her as his light within the bleak marsh and thought the world of her. It took some begging, but eventually Yua gave in and it was unanimous that they'd live where Kiri was trying to take up root. This worked out for quite some time and they made a fearsome name for themselves while Kouki and Gorou's relationship continued to flourish and blossom. He tried to keep his love of Kouki hidden from his family for the most part, or down played it when questioned specifically about it. There wasn't much more that he feared than them trying to trap Kouki and their children into their breeding and experimentation program. There were many nights where he still had nightmares of it. These concerns were not too out of place, before three years later Kouki was expecting their first pair of children. This meant that Kouki and Yua both had to leave the line of duty, but Yua was happy to take care of her sister and her little nieces or nephews that would come to be.

Two Miracles Born

Within nine months Kasai and Chiru were born, and though their deformity horrified Gorou at first Kouki and Yua put his fear to rest as best as they could. They could live as a happy family then, Yua and Kasai were free to help the village when they could and when they returned their every moment was devoted to tending to the conjoined twins. Unfortunately the harmony was broken one day when Yua received a fatal injury when trying to handle delegations with a clan who refused to join or surrender to their village's gathered might. Kouki could feel the injury and loss, and devastatingly tried to act on it only to be stopped by Gorou. He didn't fully understand their bond and tried to restrain her and urge her to go on without Yua. This led her to being confined and tied up in their own home, unable to even muster up the energy to take care of Kasai and Chiru, leaving Gorou on his own. One day Kouki convinced Gorou that she was making a turn for the better and wished to go to the market to make them dinner like she used to. He cautiously believed this but tried to go with her, only to lose sight of her as he tried to get the twins ready to go out. That was the last their father ever saw of their mother, and the last trace he could ever find from her was at the edge of the Blood Marsh.

Picking up the Pieces

This left Gorou wounded, but he vowed to continue on for his daughters' sake so he tended to them and continued to insist to the Okumo that he merely adopted them out of pity to shelter them and they were unworthy of any further testing, to protect them from his family's way of life. This was easy for them to believe, as from first glance it did not ever look like they could amount to much. It kept them safe and free to grow, and eventually much to their father's shock they were able to reach a point of separation. In the end, he was happy because it meant that maybe they could have more of a normal life like the one he often dreamt of for them. Still, eventually their constant energy and the oddities Gorou came to witness left him tired and worried. What if this was another reason they were to be shunned? What if they still couldn't live normal lives? Eventually a dear friend of Gorou who happened to instruct at the academy came to know of Gorou's problem. There weren't many opportunities to personally witness the Uchuu's potential due to their drifting loyalties, so the instructor proposed a solution to Gorou. That he enroll Kasai and Chiru at the academy as an outlet for their energy and as a service to the village. Gorou was reluctant at first, but he eventually agreed.

Today is a New Day

Soon they were students, but not the ones that showed the most potential. They were often guilty of letting one skip class while the other stood in their place claiming to have just merged together or simply not taking the lessons as seriously as they could. They were also not nearly as coordinated as some of the other students who have come to know violence and cold precision as the norm in their lives. This was tolerated for the chance to observe them and experiment on them when they could, especially when it came to punishments. It was fascinating to watch how distressed they became when separated and how their sense of pain was so connected. Despite this harsh life, Kasai and Chiru still love their father and the village more with each passing day. They take to distracting themselves from the worst of it with paper craft, which one very patient teacher has tried to turn into a skill by teaching them how to let ninjutsu influence their craft.

Personality

While Kasai and Chiru are identical physically and somewhat identical in some of their personality traits, there are some subtle differences between the both of them. Kasai is definitely more protective of the two. After seeing Chiru less confident in herself and more meek than herself it's left her feeling that her sister might need a little more sheltering and she is the only one to offer it. She also enjoys more physical and engaging activities, such as running around while playing games, physical involvement when training, and taking an active role in exploring the world around her. Chiru is more patient and cautious in her demeanor, but is certainly easily manipulated by her sister and her peers in general. She enjoys taking her own time with things, spending times indoors reading and lessons generally orientated with the mind, and enjoying food and sweets alike. Together as a whole they are both energetic children with an exceedingly naive outlook on life and an eagerness to face the world head on. Not that some of the pressures of Kiri have not taken their toll on the children's emotional growth. They are both fully aware of how their unique disposition aggravates some of the people around them, but they simply do not seem to care. In fact on some level, it would seem that they take delight in seeing how they can push and irritate others. This lack of remorse and guilt often extends to other behaviors, leaving the instructors wondering if they are not displaying some early sociopathic tendencies that could be nudged upon in their training. In the end, deep down they both know that no one will ever come close to the bond that they both share nor will anyone or anything be placed truly above that bond.

Appearance

Standing before you appears to be two reflections of the same person standing together without their mirror to separate them. If it were not for the fact that it's a rarity to see them separated, it would be nearly impossible to pick out any visual cues to differentiate them. They both stand a couple of inches less than four feet tall from the looks of it, and they both have petite frames. Their skin is pale, but their faces still bear rosy red cheeks leaving them with a healthy looking glow. Their hair is evenly trimmed at the ends with bangs that cover their their foreheads neatly, and it all falls a little past their shoulders. Their rust colored eyes are large and sparkle with a childish delight from behind their button noses. Their lips are pale and are almost always curved into carefree smiles when they're together. One difference visually is one is often wearing a pink sundress with a sash tied in a bow around the waist, and the other wears a purple one of identical design. Their shoes are black peasant shoes that seem aged a couple of years at least and fit snugly on both of their feet.

Family

Okumo Gorou	Father	This is our papa! He's always been there for us for as long as we can remember. He says that he used to be a shinobi just like we're going to be someday, but he's too hurt to do that now. He still talks with other Okumo sometimes even though he's retired, but he doesn't talk to them much unless we aren't around. Now he stays home and takes care of us all of the time! We can tell he really misses mama, sometimes we hear him crying by himself at night.
Uchuu Kouki	Mother	This is our mama. She isn't around anymore for some reason, papa always just tells us she went away to find work she loves and gather stories to tell us when she gets back. Papa still keeps pictures of us as a family around the house and says we look a lot like her. We hope we do, it'd be nice to grow up to be that pretty.
Uchuu Yua	Aunt	This is our aunt. She's mama's sister and they were always just as close as we are as sisters today! She must have left with mama though, because we've never seen her outside of the pictures. I hope they both come back really soon, I bet they'd be proud of us.

Okumo Naoya	Instructor/Sensei	This is Naoya! He's one of our instructors now that we're in the academy. Okochi warned us about him before we even met him, but we aren't very sure why. He's not even half as grouchy and mean as some of the teachers we've seen. Sure, he can be really strict and never wants us to slack, but he lets us make up for it and rewards us when we do well too! He's been taking a lot of extra time to make sure that we know all of our lessons, and all of the exercises have been really fun and exciting!
Umihe Okochi	Friend	Okochi-chan is neat! We met her one day after class and she let us pet her snakes that were hiding as her hair! Their names are Yimaru and Yamaru and she says that they're twins just like us. Now Okochi helps us study and learn for the trials coming up, and the Mizukage put her in charge of watching us and making sure we act better. Sometimes she seems a little out of place and acts funny, but we know that's not her fault. Still, that's a secret that we can't really talk about to just anyone!
Maki Hayase	Friend	We met Hayase at the fishing competition! She seemed pretty hungry from the way she ate all of those snacks, but she was pretty fun to talk to when she decided to fish with us. Apparently she and Naoya know each other somehow because they seem to like to pick on each other. We see her sometimes around the village now, like whenever we're working on our lessons, and we like to think of her as a friend.
Shirayuki Mizumi	Acquaintance	We haven't seen her around too much, but we're pretty sure she was a part of the class that graduated earlier in the season. Recently she's been a part of some of our classes with some other Genin and she was a part of one mission we got to supervise. We had to carry some supplies and she and her friend Ren had to do everything they could to try to protect us. Come to think of it, she's usually spending time with Ren!
Shimizu Ren	Acquaintance	I think he was a part of the class that graduated in the earlier season too, and he seems to spend a lot of time with Mizumi! He had to protect us too in that one mission and sat in on some lessons too. Other than that, all we really know is that he's been really quiet. He hasn't really talked too much to us when it's not about the mission. Still, the way he uses his blood and sword is really neat! We've always wondered if we should learn more about swords, but we've always preferred our fists.
Kaguya Tsiro	Mizukage	We've only met him in person once, and even though we tried to be on our best behavior in front of him for Okochi's sake, he still saw through it and heard about what we used to do for fun at the academy. We had a feeling that that'd get out, but we weren't sure if it was too small for the Mizukage to notice. We think he still thinks we're trouble, but we got to hear that he sees potential in us too! We hope that we can at least show him that he wasn't wrong in that regard.

+ Meeting Naoya-sensei! - 10/01/16

So, do you know how Okochi warned us about this instructor named Naoya? Well turns out instead of one of the usual instructors, he got to show up in class today! We were trying to talk about him and size him up, when he caught us with some spiders he has hiding everywhere apparently. Too bad there's so many of them, it seems a little boring that they're all 'Naoya' or something according to him, we could come up with much better names for each of them. He wasn't too happy at first, but kept on with the lesson. He got us good when he seemed to pop up out of nowhere to tilt one of our chairs back! He was worried that one of us would graduate while the other gets left behind, but we showed him that wasn't possible. He was so happy to see that he said that our whole class would have to live up to us! And if they ever passed us, then they got to pick a punishment for us. But if we stay ahead, then we get to pick for the rest of the class! It'd serve some of those tattle-tails right if we win. Academy classes are going to be much more fun now!

+ We Caught One! - 10/01/16

Today there was a fishing contest up by Mist Lake! Apparently the fish were doing so well this spring, that a celebration was in order. Our papa took us up there and got us fishing rods and some night-crawlers so we could participate too. He even brought a couple of aprons from the house so that our dresses could stay dry if we got splashed! Some of the fishermen were pretty old and grumpy, but we got to meet someone nice named Hayase. Apparently she knows Naoya-sensei too! She told us not to go easy on him or worry about hurting him during the trial. Oh! Naoya-sensei was there too, but he spent most of his time talking to papa and picking on Hayase from way over there. There was another girl there, but I don't think she ever said her name. We ended up catching a catfish, and Hayase caught a fish too! Neither of us won though, some of the prizes were free dinner for a while at the restaurant. Still our fish was delicious when papa took it home and cooked it up for supper.

+ Playing A Game! - 10/01/16

Naoya-sensei has been working with us a lot to help us out with our lessons. He always has fun exercises and tips and tricks to share! Even though those weird webbed-up knife balls weren't very fun at all, this exercise was much better. Okochi-chan was there, and Hayase too! Naoya said it was going to be like hide and seek, but we had to make a bunch of traps to make sure that Okochi didn't find us. Hayase couldn't play, Naoya said that she was too good at hiding and seeking and it wouldn't be fair. When we went out there, the first thing we did was make sure that we could blend in! We rolled in the mud and stuck leaves on ourselves. They turned out to not be very good leaves, they made us really itchy and got our skin kinda swollen. Still, we focused on the game and made traps to distract Okochi-chan! We think some of them worked, but we aren't sure. We ended up getting found and when we got home, we had to let papa take us to the medical center so they could help us with some of the itching. That'll teach us to remember those rhymes they tried to teach us in class.

+ Meeting the Mizukage! - 10/01/16

We got called in to meet the Mizukage, and apparently Okochi-chan did too because she was waiting outside of his office too. She seemed a little nervous, or at least as nervous as Okochi-chan can be. She talked about all the titles and rumors surrounding him, and we think we might have heard of some of them before too. Still, we weren't too afraid and we looked forward to seeing him. This was going to be the first time we ever saw him up close. When we all came in, he seemed pretty angry, but we listened to him and introduced ourselves just like Okochi did since we told her that we'd behave extra well today. He asked if we knew why were called in here and we all said no, but turns out he was reading stuff on us! Apparently he found Okochi-chan's file boring, and he just called us trouble from what he's heard about in reports from the academy. We knew those had to go somewhere, and even though we tried to 'explain', he said cut it and to sit still. He made Okochi-chan stab her own hand then too, which wasn't very nice. Still after everything, he said Okochi-chan got to watch us extra closely! She has to help make sure that we learn to behave more, well he said be obedient specifically, but this is fun! More time to spend with Okochi, and she only has to worry about disciplining us when we do something bad.
