Years passed, and while Mana and Kana's primary focus remained their career as entertainers, they also gradually picked up lessons in shinobi arts, and recently Mana has begun to study Genjutsu as well. However, direct combo is still not their forte presently, and as a result their proficiency with Ninjutsu, Hand Seals, and raw physical strength and stamina are lower than another kunoichi of their level. If not for their shared life force and body mass when they combine using their Kekkei Genkai, they'd be even more fragile and vulnerable.
But they have been successful due to their skill at infiltration, manipulation, and subtlety. They are adept at fooling and distracting, spinning convincing-sounding stories and then making sure to create or plant evidence that backs them up incase someone goes looking. They are not the strongest pair of kunoichi, but they are among the clever, the swift, and the skilled, and have plenty of room to grow.
That potential is part of what drew a woman named Reikoku to them. As much as Kana enjoys the high-stakes life of a lady spy, both she and Mana have begun to think about their future, and what they'll do when they become too old to dance. Dancers remain popular only so long as they are attractive after all, and it becomes increasingly difficult to remain attractive as one ages. A retirement plan was needed, and the longer they remained in the spy game, the higher the chances of getting caught… Something that Kana was determined would never happen to her.
Reikoku approached them and made them an offer. Unlike the one from Sousa, they had a choice this time. And that in and of itself earned interest from the twins.
Reikoku wants to ensure peace, and to do that requires information and the removal of war mongers. Since Mana and Kana were doing so well gathering intelligence for Sunagakure and other clients, she only wanted to them to do the same for her without changing her allegiances. Whatever she told others, she wanted to know as well, with an eye towards anything that could lead to stabilizing political situations, defusing military build-ups, and identifying people with malicious intentions towards Sunagakure or the other Villages.
Mana continued to be against betrayal of those she cared about. And even if she had been coerced into service, Sunagakure was her home. As a result, she made sure to specify in-detail what kind of information she would pass
along, where she drew the line, and that she would not do anything that endangered the Hidden Sand. Reikoku agreed, and now the twins serve as double-agents of sorts (or perhaps triple-agents, if one takes into account
they are also looking out for themselves). They are earning lots of money, helping to make the world safer and setting up for retirement to a civilian life style, and still getting the excitement of spy games and espionage.
And the best part of all? They're doing all this together.
