A brief history of the 'why' there are Hebisuuhai in the Land of Water | |
![]() |
|
The Foundation of the Jade Scholars | |
During the Beginning of the Clan Wars era, a young girl known as 'Youka' was born to a Hebisuuhai woman whom had a dream of ending some of the terrible practices of the Hebisuuhai clan. She fled to the Land of Tea, and married a local farmer there as she wandered from land to land with the goal of bringing the Hebisuuhai clan to a 'Golden Era'. It was unfortunate that after Youka was born, this woman left her child behind to that farmer. To abandon a child at an early age so that they learn to survive through instinct is a common practice of the Hebisuuhai, and Youka was the unfortunate result of that practice in play. Youka grew up with a loving father, who spent his every coin scraping for an education for his daughter. Youka grew up realizing that knowledge was scarce because it was a commodity of the wealthy, and moved to the Land of Water to begin a great change. There she founded the organization known as the 'Jade Scholars' whom traveled across the world and funneled information into a great library known as the 'Jade Tower' that still resides somewhere in neutral waters between the Land of Tea and the Land of Water. During the late stages of the Clan Wars Era, the Jade Scholars were known throughout the pre-shinobi world as activists for the freedom of information and influenced the Land of Water greatly. The Kirigakure Library stands as a monument of the Jade Scholar's influence, being one of the only, and largest, public library known to the shinobi world aside from the great libraries of the Jade Tower. | |
The Umihe Family and the Jade Scholars | |
During the end of the Clan Wars Era, Youka's influence had become so great that she had finally managed to do as her mother had wanted. Hebisuuhai began to come to the Land of Water to join her in the creation of a 'Hebisuuhai Utopia' where the barbaric laws of her clan were changed to create a more modern village for her clan to thrive in, rather than the crumbling underground dystopia she believed the Land of Lightning's Hebisuuhai lived in. It was, however, not to be. A staunch opponent of the 'Village System', Youka worked tirelessly against it's formation. When the hidden villages arose, and even her three children left her to support their continuing existence, she committed suicide. Those Hebisuuhai that had followed her into the Land of Water still believed in her utopia, and refused to return to the Land of Lightning. They rejected the Hebisuuhai clan name and took up family monicker from the words 'Umi' (Sea) and 'Hebi' (Serpent) and named themselves a new branch known as the 'Umihe'. |
Background and Personality Analysis of Umihe Okochi |

Background |
Umihe Okochi was born after the formation of the Hidden Villages, and was tailored from an early age to be loyal to the Land of Water and to even hate any Hebisuuhai from the 'inferior' mainlanders. Despite living in less that regal conditions Okochi was often taught that the Hebisuuhai belonged in Kirigakure, and was trained heavily with the limited tools available to her upstart clan branch. Okochi was taught in a variety of different fields, such as basic medical theory and even learned her affinity and developed it slightly. Yet, with her parent's expectations came a variety of problems that haunt her even now. So broad were her studies, that she was unable to truly become good at any one of them even as the academy years attempted to refine her. She lacked power behind her punches, and the power put into her ninjutsu was exceptionally weak. Yet, broadening her horizons so much gave her a curious ability to use chakra efficiently. Not only were her studies broad, but she was graced with a task that few Hebisuuhai are usually able to accomplish, to raise two serpents. One came from her mother, Umihe 'Hebisuuhai' Kochi and one from her father, Umihe 'Hebisuuhai' Yumata. These two serpents were not particularly strong, runts at most given the limited serpents that the branch had to work with, and quickly into their development both had a difference in opinions. Yimaru, whom had come from Okochi's mother, seemed to show an affinity for Ninjutsu and often tried to guide Okochi towards Ninjutsu as an art. Oppositely, Yamaru, whom was born of her father's serpent was staunchly interested in the art of Taijutsu. Okochi as a result found her studies before the Academy to be relatively focused on two arts rather than one. When Okochi joined the Academy at the age of 9, she kept herself generally isolated from the other students, always sitting in the back of class and usually practicing stealth-based maneuvers. Whenever the class was participating in sparring sessions, she was well enough at watching from the shadows that she was rarely selected to participate. It was not that she had abilities that were far greater than her peers, but she had found that remaining neutral in all conflicts allowed her to gleam information that provided benefit to her from her peers, and her special senses allowed her a leg-up that few other students had, save the Okumo. In the end, she graduated with no distinctions at the age of 13. |
Personality |
Okochi suffers from two neurological disorders that have build her roughly into the shinobi she is now. The first is Asperger's Syndrome. Okochi shows many signs of Asperger's Syndrome, including having trouble understanding social cues and making friends, Becoming uncomfortable when loud noises, or her routines are distracted, eating the same foods over and over again. This isn't all negative to Okochi's effectiveness as a shinobi. Though socially awkward, she has a different way of viewing and handling situations that often allow her to excel in impromptu maneuvers, and she also has an incredible ability to find patterns in everything she sees. She merely does not understand human interaction, making it unsure whether this habit is a result of being 'Shy' or not. Furthermore, Okochi suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Her daily schedule is already planned for at the beginning of each day. Her schedule usually follows hour blocs, and much deliberation has to be taken whenever adding or removing a bloc or deviating time to other activities. An inability to follow the schedule adds anxiety to Okochi. Okochi happens to be the sort of character that would rather watch from afar and assess a situation long before acting. This is a result of her time with her serpents, who act almost like a shoulder angel and shoulder devil respectively. Though her serpents do not speak the human language, she understands them in their basic serpentine tongue and often listens to them bicker and attempt to sway her opinion in all matters. Her mind, as a result, never rushes into a situation without the judgement of her own mind and two others. She prefers to do many things alone, and has troubles eating around people. This can't be mistaken as being shy, because she is anything but shy. She exemplifies the quality of a serpent being 'silver tongued and deceitful'. Okochi likes eggs, as one of the few sources of food her family could provide for themselves and their serpents was the egg. As a result, the 'Umihe' family has a rather large chicken farm. Okochi also has a natural weakness to music. Okochi often hides her serpents from view during everyday interaction by having them pose as henged locks of hair. |

Body Description | |
The most distinguishing features, and most readily identifiable feature, are Okochi's eyes. The autumn-orange hue they bare, but more importantly are the slitted pupils that differentiate her from the normal human. Serpentine eyes that contract and dilate due to changes in light, or as a response to stress give this female a rather strange appeal if an appeal at all. Though, this does not rule out that there are still more odd features to work with, such as the fact that her teeth contain an oddity in their presence. Fangs, like that of a cat or canine, yet sharper and more needle-like. Don't forget that Okochi's tongue is slender and serpentine, with a sharp fork at the very end and often prone to exiting her mouth involuntarily. With the more distinguished features out of sight, one's eyes come to features of less distinguishment. That includes Okochi's height, at 149cm (4'11"). Okochi's overall figure is lithe, and it shows in her flexibility. Her endowments have yet to take their fullest potential. Okochi also appears to have a pale-blonde, almost cornsilk, colored hair. Her hair is actually short, but one would often find her sporting twintails that are long enough to reach her ankles. Do not be fooled, for those twintails are actually two serpents Yimaru and Yamaru. Both are black scaled serpents with yellow eyes. | |
Current Fashion | |
Okochi currently wears the colors of autumn upon her form, despite being in the midst of spring. Okochi happens to be wearing a lovely faded sleeveless sundress. She wears a black hooded coat overtop with zig-zags of white, with long sleeves that fall past her wrists that could easily button up over her dress to create a cloak in the event that she is required for sudden duty. She appears to wear tabi tucked away into common sandals. |

Lobotomy |
---|
There is a reason that I have disorders that are classified as 'Obsessive Compulsive' or 'Aspergers'. I was not always like this. I used to be able to feel emotion freely, such as Love, Pain, Happiness, Regret, Fear, and Hate. I was normal. However, my parents thought it necessary to find a way to bring their sect to light and solidify them as an official clan in the eyes of the Mizukage. To do this, they subjected all of their hatchlings but their most prized ones to experimentational facilities. Many of my siblings died being experimented upon. I was one of two that survived. Survived being a loose word. My brother lost the ability to think altogether. He can only eat with assistance, and he can no longer conjugate words. I was lucky. When they removed various sections of my mind, they managed to create exactly what they wanted. Now I am the 'perfect soldier'. Emotions and other nervous requirements are repressed. I take no pleasure from what my parents did to me. At the same time, I do not hate them for what they did. I am incapable of either emotion. |
Explosive Tags |
There was no logical reason for me to learn how to create and use the common explosive tag. Taking special paper, infusing it with one's chakra, and placing the proper seals upon it creates a device of great utility. I take no pleasure in creating explosive tags, but watching them ignite seems to fill the emptiness. I received the drive to learn their construction during a training session with Jounin Naoya, whom handed us blocks that were wrapped in explosive tags. Though the tags do not usually go off due to proximity, only when chakra is applied to them, I learned that those scaling the walls of Kirigakure with chakra (as an enemy shinobi of any merit would) such blocks would ignite like a land mine upon a wall. |
Fallout |
The Jinchuuriki of the Six-Tails, Hibiki, has decided to cut all contact with me. This decision was made because I was being included in activities which are undoubtedly against my will. Thus, I have lost the ability to watch over one of the village's most important tools. This will free up time from my schedule to do other things, but it is difficult to change my routines. |
Mission vs Mission |
I was put on the hopeless task of defeating a force in a mission between fellow genin. Four individuals, two genin and two students, shipped 'important cargo'. I was to intercept that cargo. However, it was unfortunate that I was unable to complete the task at hand. My best efforts only slowed the more experienced genin down, and my attempts to divide them only worked 'slightly'. All opportunities I could visualize were taken. This is only proof to my critics, such as Hibiki and Ren, that teamwork is a necessity. in the shinobi world. |

Initial Entry |
---|
Good Morning. I am Umihe Okochi. This is a test entry to ensure that the journal is completed for the psychology officials every two months. In order to fill the entry with information appropriate to the function of a journal, I will state my current shinobi schedule. Six O'clock is the waking bloc, where I spend time getting out of bed and getting dressed. Seven O'clock is breakfast time. The meals will always be puffed rice. Eight O'clock is Taijutsu hour. I only perform Taijutsu, and nothing else. Nine O'clock is Ninjutsu hour. Ninjutsu is performed for an hour, without rest. Ten O'clock is Genjutsu hour. Genjutsu is not a strong-suit, but it is practiced nonetheless. Eleven O'clock is mandatory bathing and preparation. Twelve O'clock is the lunch bloc. One O'clock to Two O'clock is freetime. Three O'clock to six O'clock is the most important bloc of all. It is the reading bloc. At current, I have read almost fifty percent of the Library's texts. I read them categorically, to prevent the possibility of missing a text. Seven O'clock is dinner hour. Eight O'clock is organization and maintenance. Nine O'clock I train my serpents with simple algorithms, to allow their mental functions to expand beyond normal limits. Ten O'clock is sleep. (The entry ends abruptly here) |
Hibiki Exposed |
It disturbs me that someone can be so free with village secrets. Not everyone is as loyal as I. Yamashita Hibiki only spent a period of little under an hour with me, and he had already revealed that he was a Jinchuuriki. Of what, I do know. Frankly… I do not care. I am just particularly enthused at the fact that I was approached. As I have said before, the Library is a key part of who I am. My family wrote many of the texts that lay in the library's halls. Every day I have three hours set aside to read the texts within the library, and I have not once been disrupted until Hibiki approached me. I feel uncomfortable, but at the same time there is a certain level of endearment within because he had done so. It is unfortunate that Hibiki believes he was a capable fighter alone… That is why I approached him when he least expected it, and attacked him in disguise. To prove that he needed me. |
Heartfall |
The first serious mission I have ever been a part of was a mission that seemed far more important than it was. I knew from the start that it was a training mission, with serious parameters. A former member of the Daimyo's Junior Cabinet, a poor old man living in a manor upon a hill, was scheduled for silent execution. It was the kind that needed to seem like an accident. Along with Hibiki and Mizumi, we breached their defenses with relative ease. When we came upon the sleeping man, Mizumi administered anesthetic. I was ordered to give him the most natural-looking heart attack possible. Locating the pacemaker of his heart, I polarized it for an extended period of time. He met god peacefully. |
Spring Hanami (Flower Viewing Festival) |
The Land of Water blooms late, but when the true springtime air washes over it, the trees bloom brighter than in any other nation. Though the bloom does not last as long, I managed to enjoy it with fellow shinobi for a short period of time. In a militaristic establishment, it is difficult to sit down and commune with nature. I spent my 1 O'clock wandering hour to sit in the marketplace and enjoy a meal. As I waited there, I saw Kaguya Yuriko for a brief moment, before she moved off to complete an errand. In the end, I enjoyed the viewing with no one but myself… I did not mind either. It was pleasant. |
