A wandering ninja loyal to the Land of Whirlpools and the Uzumaki clan, Uzumaki Amiko covers a hidden shame with her playful and carefree attitude toward life.

Background

Uzumaki Amiko grew up in the Land of Waterfalls. Much of her childhood and training as a ninja occurred before the founding of Uzushiogakure, and has followed in the traditions of the Uzumaki clan. It is known that Amiko's father disappeared a little over a year ago under suspicious circumstances, and the Land of Waterfalls has issued an entry on him in their Bingo Book, specifying that he is to be brought in alive if possible. Shortly after her father's disappearance Amiko left the Land of Waterfalls to travel the world with Uzushiogakure's blessing.

Personality

Uzumaki Amiko is a typical phlegmatic; carefree, laid back and personable. While at the worst of times her temperament can let her fall into bouts of laziness or perpetual tardiness, she's very serious about her work. Her temperament also leads her to be patient, careful and logical. She possesses the ability to remain calm and collected when others might panic or become enraged. When it comes to life as a ninja, Amiko takes no shortcuts. Amiko can also be quite playful and teasing, enjoying stirring people and playing games of any variety.

Appearance

A girl in her late teens, Amiko has long, strawberry blonde hair that falls to her waist. She wears it mostly free, with only her forehead protector keeping it out of her eyes. Her large eyes are a sea-green colour and are framed by her long, elegant eyelashes and pale green eyeshadow. Her face is a little child-like, with a soft jawline and small chin, but her high cheekbones add some definition to her appearance. Her fingernails are long and painted, matching the colour of her eyeshadow. Amiko's wearing a green, short-sleeved crop top which bears the uzumaki symbol on the left shoulder, and plain long black leggings. On her feet are a pair of black peep-toe shoes, each with a small one-inch heel. The outfit shows off her toned stomach and limber muscles.

Ninja Journal - Letters to Home

#1 Arrival in Konohagakure

I've arrived in Konohagakure, the primary village of our allies in the Land of Fire. The village is certainly impressive, and I've met several Konoha-nin who seem highly skilled and very friendly. I just wonder if they have the resolve to do what's necessary in tough situations - all this talk of honour and mercy causes me to have doubts. In any case, its a lot nicer here than in Kirigakure, where I felt that I had to constantly watch my back.
I'm not sure if the Land of Fire is in the middle of a heatwave or if this weather is just normal, but without the sea breeze to cut through the heat and humidity its almost unbearable. I find myself wanting to walk around in just my bikini, because anything more substantial gets suffocatingly hot. Thankfully they have a lake inside the village walls, and I'm spending a lot of time sitting by the water, or in it if its especially hot.
Father's trail has gone cold in the forests northwest of the village, and I've been unable to pick it up again. I'm talking to some of the officials here in Konoha in an attempt to work out where he might have gone, but if all else fails I'll have to move on to the Land of Rain and see if I can locate any of his old contacts there.

#2 Lost the Trail

Dear Mum,
I'm staying a little more regularly in the Land of Fire now. Its been very helpful to have a primary base of operations, and the funding that Uzushiogakure has granted has allowed me to continue operations without too much difficulty. Unfortunately it hasn't yielded much in the way of results yet. I encountered the criminal briefly here in the Land of Fire, and gave chase but he eluded me. I managed to track him into the Land of Wind, but after a sandstorm and a bad case of heat stroke I lost his trail again. There hasn't been any sign of him for a couple of weeks now, and I fear that he's gone to ground.
Since I've been based in Konohagakure, and I've been making lots of great contacts here (including with the neutral state Jump), I'm considering applying for an Ambassadorial position here. It would allow me to access better funding to continue the hunt for the criminal, and I quite enjoy the life here.
In more personal news I've been on a couple of dates recently, and one in particular was quite successful. His name is Yukio, and I'm hoping that we'll start seeing each other often, maybe even 'go official'. I'm really missing you and the whole family, and I'm looking forward to the next time I can get home for a visit.

#3 The Chuunin Exams in Kirigakure

Mum,
Next week I'll be in Kirigakure for the Chuunin Exams, and I hope you'll be there too. It looks like there'll be quite a few talented Genin attending, and I know that there are a few from Uzushiogakure entering as well. Please come and support them, and we can catch up at the same time!
Still no news on the missing criminal. I've been keeping my ear to the ground, but there hasn't been any sightings of him. It isn't a good sign. It probably means that he's up to something again, especially after the poisonings in Konohagakure and the chase he gave me through the Land of Wind.
Anyway, gotta go. Got travel preparations to make!

#4 Shameful Seals

Mum,
I'm becoming more and more aware of just how careful I need to be with my cursed seals. Right now I'm sitting in my hotel room with the shakes… I'm pretty sure its withdrawal symptoms after unleashing my seals recently. The rush of power is like a high, but once I suppress the seals again I have a low. A really bad low. I think I need to be very careful how how I use them, for how long, and how often. I could easily become addicted, and if that happens the worse side effects won't be far behind. If I ever lose control of them, I might need your help sealing them back up.

#5 Injured Proctoring

Mum,
Thanks for visiting me in hospital in Kirigakure, even though I was unconscious at the time. I'm recovering well and the doctors say it'll only be another day or two before I'm out and I can head back to Konohagakure soon.
So, what happened? I'm not really sure. I don't remember much of the incident in the arena. One of the examinees lost control of her jutsu, and it destroyed pretty much everything. I got trapped inside the technique, all my chakra and strength was sapped and I was left unconscious. The others in the arena didn't fare much better, especially the poor girl who nearly exploded. Onimitsu, the other combatant, managed to stay awake through the whole affair, and was declared the winner afterwards, as incredible as that seems. Honestly though, I would have declared him the winner by forfeit anyway since the other girl attacked the proctors. Even if it was accidental.
Well, that's about all for now. Just thought I'd let you know how I was going.

#6 Applying to Stay

Mum,
I'm home from Kirigakure now. The Chuunin Exams were really interesting, but the best part was that I got to catch up with you. Anyway, it could be a while before I get to return home to Uzushiogakure because I've decided to apply for a position as an Ambassador to Konohagakure. We'll see how the application fares, but if it goes through it could be another six months before I have leave to come home for a visit.

There have been whispers in the Land of Fire about appearances of the criminal I'm tracking. Hopefully I'll be able to turn up some leads over the next few weeks.

#7 The Dankness of a Dungeon

A mental letter from Amiko to her mother
Mum,
I've done it again. I'm in well over my head with father. I lead a mission to track him down and bring him in, but as always he was a step ahead. It was an ambush, a trap from the beginning. And now I'm here, stuck in the bottom of a hellhole of a dungeon. I get daily visits from father… he's slowly trying to break my mind and my body, experimenting on me with those same seals he's been trying to master for years. The pain is excruciating, and I'm already well past addicted to the lower level seals. Thankfully he hasn't opened the higher level seals too much. I suspect he's worried that he'll kill me if he does. But even with all the seals open, I can't touch him. He's placed a cursed seal on me that stops me from being able to act. With a single thought he can freeze my movements, and do whatever he wants with me.

He's coming back, I've gotta go.

#8 The Potential For Rescue

A mental letter from Amiko to her mother
Mum,
After weeks of being trapped here I now have the slightest glimmer of hope. I heard the big man approaching father and saying that he'd been attacked by a group of Konoha shinobi. Although he clearly managed to escape the encounter it means that my friends in Konoha are on the right track. Some day, maybe I'll be saved. If I'm not already dead by then. That hope is the only thing I can hold on to here. The hope that some day Konoha will raid this prison and rescue me. The hope that some day I'll be able to come home and see you again.

#9 Safe and Sound

Mum,
I'm back in Konohagakure now. Several Jounin broke into the facility where I was being held. The fight lasted half an hour, but I was finally pulled out and brought back to safety. For now I'm being held in the Konohagakure Shinobi Hospital. They want to ensure that I'm safe to release before they let me wander the streets again. With how dangerous dad is, they half expect that he's turned me into a living bomb, or hypnotised me to perpetrate heinous crimes with some outlandish Genjutsu. But if all goes according to plan I'll be out and about in a couple of weeks, and I'll be headed straight home to see you. Can't wait until then.

#10 Demons in the Cellar

Mum,
We've been doing some house cleaning. Or you might want to call it ghost busting. Apparently you and the Real Estate agent were right about that old house we bought. There was a ghost, a real live (or dead?) ghost in the basement. It seems that over the years the ghost had been kidnapping children and holding them captive under the house. The ghost itself was a twisted thing, all rage and protective motherly instinct with no real sense of self or understanding of what she was doing to those children. And the children she'd killed over the years, they were all ghosts as well, every bit as twisted as the woman that killed them. Of course, Ayame-san and I were forced to destroy them. I sealed the ghost into the foundations of the house, where I doubt it will ever manage to escape. The girl is still with us in the house at the moment until Child Services can work out what to do with her.
