The arena before you is as large as an open field. Vast stone walls surround the arena. They look as rough and uneven as the walls of a cave. The walls climb straight up, higher and higher to the distant stands. The only break in the rough hewn walls is a round, cave-like entrance leading back to the lobby. The grounds of the arena are a mixture of lands. On one half is uneven, rocky ground like many of the places found in Kumo. The other half is firm packed soil with a long row of full grown trees that encircle the edges of the arena. Within the center of the field is a wide, deep pool surrounded by sandy shores. It's a tribute to all five nations, yet seems to blend naturally together as if one were standing on the edge of the nations' borders.

IT'S TOURNAMENT TIME!!! The stands are packed with people eager to see the bloodspor — I mean, witness the fruits of the lifelong training of chuunin hopefuls. c.c Out onto the field plods Akimichi Noab, the venerable clan head from Konoha. How courteous of Kumogakure to let a Konohagakure dignitary officiate one of these matches, some of the more politically knowledgeable spectators muse. Man, that guy must be pretty tough to survive that long as a shinobi, some of the more astute warriors present say. What's that fat old dude doing wearing a ninja getup, most of the other audience members wonder. :P
Well, Noab's not here to prove himself, so those rubes can keep thinking that. "'TEEEEEEEN-SHUN!!!" Noab barks up at the stands. "The next round of the chuunin examination tournament will now begin! Both contestants for this round represent Konohagakure no Sato! Yoshida Ayame versus Akimichi Mokei!"
Shock! Scandal! The Akimichi clan head is being allowed to referee the match of one of his own subordinates?! How can this be unbiased!? >:O Well, the poor guy jogging out to his mark on the field certainly doesn't feel like it'll be biased, at least not in his favor. c.c; He feels the single eye of his clan leader boring into him, and knows he'd darn well better give a good showing, OR ELSE.
Despite murmurings from the crowd, the match proceeds. Ninja technicians spark up the powerful damage-dampening field around the arena, and Noab indicates for the contestants to face each other. "Forget all that 'clean fight' junk, you're here to demonstrate real combat ability so anything goes," Noab says. "You won't be able to kill each other anyway. Ready…BEGIN!!!" Mokei goes into a horse stance with his fists clenched by his sides, starting off the fight by gathering up his strength with a deep growl. >/
RP: Noab joins the roleplay.
COMBAT: It is now Noab's turn.
COMBAT: Noab focuses 7000 stamina to turn it into usable chakra!
Ayame herself had already been facing the Akimichi kid, her expression one of… boredom, by the look of things. She was looking down on the genin across from her! "Mmn… Can't kill each other, how sad…" She sighs, "No matter." Ayame's lips quirked upward into a smirk, "You may still wish you were dead after all is said and done." She waves a hand vaguely, then sighs, "Come on then. Let's see what you have, boy. Maybe if you're not too boring, I'll let you stay conscious for a while, mmn?" She smiles, a creepy, none-too-reassuring sort of smile, but doesn't adopt any sort of fighting stance… Ayame was waiting for the Akimichi to make the first move.
RP: Arisu joins the roleplay.
COMBAT: Noab finishes his turn.
COMBAT: It is now Arisu's turn.

Mokei narrows his eyes. "Don't be so quick to decide you'll win, little miss lacy!" Mokei fires a fist out at Ayame, using the special technique of his clan to extend his arm across the distance. His other arm stretches out and inflates before sweeping at Ayame in a swatting motion, then the fingers attempt to close around her and hold her in place.

Ayame doesn't move. She doesn't even try to dodge as the first strike passes right through her, just before she vanishes and reappears two feet to the left of where she had once been. The second attempt to strike her meets similar results, passing through her apparently solid body without gaining any purchase what-so-ever… as if she weren't there at all. The attempt to grab her seemed to work though! That was… until she flickered back into existence two feet back to the right again, with a smirk on her face, "Oooh. Very good. Honestly, that was excellent, especially for a genin."
She started to step forward, slowly and fearlessly… Clearly she wasn't very concerned about the Akimichi's body-expansion techniques. "A pity that it wont be enough." She suddenly stops, and the air immediately around Mokei suddenly drops several degrees, with no clear reason behind it. Ayame hadn't done any hand seals, and there didn't appear to be a breeze… But nevertheless, Mokei might have also felt the instinctual urge to MOVE before something DID happen… if he didn't move fast enough though, he might discover that his legs wouldn't respond anymore, as Ayame's poltergeist abilities held the poor Akimichi boy firmly in place, to prepare him for Ayame's supposed 'magic'.

If Noab didn't know how crazy the world of ninja can be, with small children sometimes manifesting power that even the most experienced and hard-working warriors could never hope to attain, he'd think there's something strange about this Ayame-san. e.U If she wanted a promotion, and had this level of ability to display, couldn't she have achieved it through simpler means than this whole exams business? She sure seems confident enough. Oh well.
Frankly, Mokei was half expecting his initial assault to fail. When he felt no resistance inside his fist, he knew it was time to defend against a counterattack. So he was already performing handsigns and moulding chakra when the tell-tale sensation of Ayame's impending attack went over him. A pillar of earth suddenly shot up from beneath him, carrying him outside the zone of effect. Phew. u.u; Well, seems this Akimichi boy is no slouch either! Though the initial feel is that Ayame has the upper hand. Still, no reason not to give it his all. Mokei jumps off the earth pillar and…simply falls toward Ayame. Gravity is a wonderful ally sometimes. A second before impact, Mokei turns into a giant meatball and SLAMS into the ground, hopefully with some part of Ayame caught in the crash.

Ayame once again didn't bother to dodge, though her body flickered slightly as Mokei rolled right through her. She did turn to look at him rolling on after a moment and gestured vaguely at a point a few feet in front of him… Where a sudden burning sphere of blue flame suddenly flashed into existence, followed by two more hovering overhead.
As Mokei approached the first sphere of spectral flame, it exploded violently, showering the area in blue sparks. That signaled for the other two flames to launch themselves at the rolling boy, exploding as they came within range of the genin, trying to hit him should the first attempt fail to catch him.

No dice, huh? Thinking defensively once again, Mokei pops back out of ball form and immediately stomps into the ground. A small wall of dirt shoots up around him, shielding him from the first of the explosions. Mokei throws himself on his back beneath the barrier to avoid the sparks, and in doing so, looks up and sees the other fireballs coming in. o.o; Fortunately it only takes another push of chakra into the earth to make the barrier cover him up against these other projectiles too.
Seems like a stalemate so far! Neither side has been able to touch the other. Mokei figures Ayame's more likely to be able to keep that up consistently with her weird capabilities, though, so he'd better bring out the big guns. >/ Dispersing the dirt around him, Mokei goes through a set of handseals, and a dragon's head of earth rises up from the ground. It opens its maw and fires a barrage of basketball-sized mud clumps at Ayame.
Wow, this kid knows some pretty advanced stuff for a yet-to-be-chuunin too! c.U It's as if it's all some cosmic game, set up for balance to provide maximum entertainment…nahhhh. :P

Ayame's body flickers repeatedly as mud clumps fly through her harmlessly, smashing into the ground behind her one after the other. She sighs slightly as she glances back at the mud, "…Are you trying to get my dress dirty?" She turns her attention back to Mokei, her expression grim, and… possibly slightly upset?
Her eyes flicker a moment and then slowly, the black of her pupils seems to drain, working it's way beneath her Iris and into the sclera of her eyes… finally giving her a black sclera, icy, inhuman blue eyes, and a white pupil. The blackness seemed to continue outward, creating jagged, black, almost vein-like shapes just outside of her eyes. Yep. Just slightly upset.
The ground beneath Mokei suddenly rips itself up out of the ground, sharpened stones surging forward in a tidal wave trying to impale him on their pointy edges from every side… Meanwhile, the clumps of mud behind Ayame began to hover, without her even so much as looking at them, moving back around her and launching themselves back at Mokei, apparently seeking to bury him beneath sharp stones and hardening mud!

Hoo boy. o.o Mokei throws up another dirt wall to block the incoming projectiles. It shudders and crack under the first few impacts, so Mokei pours more chakra in and makes it thicker, weathering the hail. >.<; Okay, apparently she can use any solid projectiles thrown at her, better not give her more ammunition…so that means, use something not so solid! Mokei runs through a long string of handseals while waiting for the assault to subside, then pops up and spews a huge cone of flame at Ayame.
Sheesh, worrying about her dress in a combat situation, why'd she even wear it to a match if that's how she feels…

Oh look! Mokei managed to hit Arisu! The flames engulf her, but when they disappear, the charred flesh, clothing, and hair instantly begins to regrow, rapidly knitting back together as if she had never been burned at all. She still didn't look like she was very happy though.
~Stop moving little genin.~
Arisu's voice echoed from all directions, ethereal in quality even though she never opened her mouth. Suddenly a very similar sensation of something cold and tingly, and very NOT NORMAL engulfed Mokei again, as Arisu attempted once again to trap the Genin and make him sit still.
~I'm going to add you to my army of ghosts.~
Her voice echoed outward again, followed by a cacophony of laughter. Children's laughter, as a wispy fog started to form around Arisu, accompanied by wispy child-like shapes, too indistinct to tell much about them.

It worked? It worked! Whaddaya know, Mokei actually managed the first successful hit of this match! o.o And…ew, what's going on with her? :P That can't be right, she couldn't have been burned that badly in the first place with the damage-reduction field involved. Gotta be some kind of theatricality. Certainly this gal seems to go in for that sort of thing a lot. c.c At any rate, Mokei gets the feeling now would be a good time to fall back and regroup. He brings up another pillar of earth underneath himself, once again narrowly avoiding that weird telekinesis of Ayame's. Okay, what to do…well, possibly it was just dumb luck that the fire attack worked, but one success is better evidence in favor of a method than nothing at all. :P Mokei spews a barrage of small fireballs down at Ayame, peppering her vicinity.

Arisu breathes in, and then out again, her voice a rasp as she suddenly splits into three separate bodies, each of them walking towards Mokei menacingly, and none of them apparently taking damage from the fire.
Their movements were followed by the indistinct ghost-children behind them, as the ghostly laughter coming from all sides became louder, children closing in… And then there was a sudden spike in volume as the sound of the children's laughter became deafening, and… possibly very painful unless it could be shut out, the ground cracking and shaking beneath the violent vibrations.

This girl sure has a strange way of fighting. o.o She doesn't particularly look like she's even trying to do anything, stuff just happens. Almost like a genjutsu, but Mokei's pretty sure that's not what's going on. Say, that laugh track is getting awfully loud…ow! >.<; Mokei puts his hands down on the earth pillar, absorbing a coating of dirt, then clamps his hands over his ears to block out the cacophonous noise. Does it work? Only a little. x.x
Once the attack subsides, Mokei hops back and slides down the other side of the pillar, out of Ayame's view. Then he comes around the side of it and charges in for a straight assault — no wait, there's another one! A veritable squad of Mokeis come out from behind the pillar like cartoon characters who'd been hiding behind a lamp-post. They move to tackle the various Ayames, bursting into flame just before making contact.

One clone explodes right through one of the Ayames… Another explodes going through ANOTHER Ayame… The last seems to hit home though, exploding into a shower of flames that flicker over the girl's body… but apparently her nerves are dead or something, because aside from a slight flicker in her expression, she doesn't seem to be in pain at all.
~Come out come out wherever you are.~
Ayame's echoing voice comes through again, but she doesn't seem to be moving… She's just waiting for the opposing Genin to come out to play again… Though any sensor-nin watching the fight would notice that her chakra, which had been a bit out of sorts swirling around her, was being carefully put back into order as she waited.
COMBAT: Arisu heals Arisu for 561 with LESSER REGENERATION.
COMBAT: Arisu finishes her turn.
COMBAT: It is now Noab's turn.
Wherever he is? Well, Mokei stopped sliding down the earth pillar about three quarters of the way down, leaving his fire clones to drop the rest of the way. Figured that'd provide a chance of throwing off the opposition for a second more if/when she comes around to attack him. Even ninja don't always remember to look up. Anyway, if Ayame's going to pause, Mokei doesn't mind taking a quick breather himself. He sticks silently against the pillar, gathering up his chakra in preparation for the remainder of the fight.
COMBAT: Noab focuses 7000 stamina to turn it into usable chakra!
COMBAT: Noab finishes his turn.
COMBAT: It is now Arisu's turn.
Ayame apparently still had plenty of Chakra at her disposal… Which she kept using for a few seconds, but then stopped, staring at the huge pillar for a moment before openning her mouth… and SCREAMING at the top of her lungs, the pillar shaking and rocking, and likely threatening to tip over at any second and reveal the poor genin on the other side! The sounds of the other ghost children screeching accompany her, making the sound ever louder.

Oh joy, the loudness again. x.x It's almost preferable that it at least comes from a vocalization you'd expect to be loud this time. Mokei tries to bring some of the earth of the pillar around himself to shunt away the sonic blast, but it doesn't work very well.
"… ….., ….'s enoUGH!" Huh? The ringing in Mokei's ears fades away just in time for him to catch the last bit of Noab's pronouncement. He peers out from around the pillar to see Noab holding up an officious hand toward Ayame. "The victor of this match, by referee decision, is Yoshida Ayame-san!" Oh…well, okay. u.u Mokei drops down to the ground and gives Ayame a bow. "That was…certainly an interesting match, Yoshida-san."
Ayame looked as if she were ready to continue her sonic assault on Mokei, but slowly shut her mouth as the color returned to her eyes as normal. "…Very well." She glances at Mokei and nods, "You're very good with your earth and fire abilities… I'm surprised you needed to go through the exams to become a chuunin at all… Unless you're a newer Genin, like myself that is." She raises a brow, but doesn't wait for an answer, "In any case, I suppose I should go get some rest and prepare for the next match."
