Hone Nai was in the library of Sunagakure. He was putting away books with
his bandaged hands, black-lensed goggles keeping all light from his eyes.
Features concealed by bandages, form concealed by cloak and hood… No one
could claim to have seen his face. No one but Kokoroe Sousa, the Kazekage.
Nai looked up when he realized Sousa was standing there, looking at him.
Step one you say, 'we need to talk'
Sousa looked like he normally did: in control of himself. However, Nai
knew why he was there. The attack at the school. Nai bowed and attempted
to decline the request, citing being busy.
He walks, you say 'sit down it's just a talk'
Nai hesitated, but then accepted. Eventually, the two stood in a meeting
room with a window looking out over Sunagakure. Nai stood with his arms at
his sides, his body held loose and lifeless, back hunched out of habit to
alter his apparent height to on-lookers.
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
Sousa stared out the window as he asked Nai to explain what happened at
the school. Nai became agitated and began to pace back and forth.
As he goes left and you stay right
Nai became frustrated, grabbed Sousa by the lapels of his robe and
demanded the other man HELP him before it's too late.
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came.
Blood dripped from the walls of Sunagakure's Ninja Academy, in a storage
room. Sousa simply watched the clean-up.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life…
The office of Kokoroe Sousa has been sealed off from the rest of the
Administration Dome by sand and dirt. Inside that office is the Ghoul of
the Desert and Sousa himself. Alone in the darkness.
Let him know that you know best
'Cause after all you do know best
The Ghoul explains what he has seen. The truth. The way to fix the
universe itself. The reasons why it's necessary… Like Sousa never even
once treating him or anyone else in the Sand Village like friends. But he
asks anyway, just to be sure, if Sousa really didn't know how he was
hurting others. He asks to be told it's all a misunderstanding.
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Sousa gives a straight answer to everything. He doesn't deny what has been
said. But the only thing he doesn't give a straight answer to is if he was
ever really Nai's friend. He is reluctant to say definitively.
That's the wrong answer.
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
The Ghoul explains once more, in detail, how Sousa has treated everyone
like test subjects instead of fellow human beings. He explains that it's
not personal even so, what he's going to do. It's just that everything is
broken and it needs to be fixed.
And pray to God, he hears you…
He hopes Sousa stops him right now. Somewhere inside, he hopes he's wrong,
that the Dead are wrong, that it doesn't have to be this way.
And PRAY to GOD, he HEARS you…
The Ghoul leaves the office intact. A Code White sounds a short time
later, to alert the Admin Dome that the Kazekage is under attack. A short
time after that… The hospital is under attack as well.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life…
The Ghoul of the Desert, Hone Nai, Misu Yane, the Dead King… A tortured
shell that was once human and has become something OTHER is making its way
towards the place where it can smell the scent of the Kazekage's blood and
flesh. Voices in his head urge him along with their whispers.
The voices are of dead people. The family that Misu Yane once had, that
died over a century ago in the desert, leaving behind only ghosts that he
has managed to make contact with. The ghosts want everything to be whole
again. The ghosts want it all to be fixed.
The Ghoul hisses at them to shut up.
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
A little girl in the Ghoul's head, the youngest of Yane's sisters, is
saying something opposite the others. She's saying it's not too late.
Drive until you lose the road
The road that Yane follows leads directly into the End of Everything. The
destruction and reforging of the universe itself. Nothing will survive.
Even the Dead will become something else, so that they can be remade in a
CORRECTED world.
Or break with the ones you've followed
The other path is to ignore the whispers of the Dead and listen to one
little girl's departed soul.
What kind of choice is that?
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything…
Either FIX everything…
Or he'll say he's just not the same.
…Or keep suffering because one voice says there's another way?
And you begin to wonder why you came.
What the **** kind of choice is that!?
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend,
Somewhere along in the bitterness.
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life…
The Ghoul of the Desert, Hone Nai, Misu Yane, the Dead King… And the
entirety of all the souls and memories of every person and creature that
has ever lived and died… Head to ensure the Kazekage makes his
appointment with "Death-san".
He still hasn't decided.
