Summary:
Raion was put in charge of what was supposed to be a simple patrol, but things went south quick when the group gets lured into investigating!
"Patrol: Lured, But Not Defeated!"
Outside Kumogakure
Raion has been put in charge of running a basic patrol. He was told that three people were going to be sent with him, and that he was to follow the route and make sure things go smoothly. Messages had already been sent out to the two that were being called along informing them that they'd be going on a patrol led by Maneshi Raion, and another, slightly different message was sent to Inuzuka Shinobu, asking for her to come along on a simple patrol around Kumogakure as well since she was in the area. All of the letters inform the recipient to gather at the gates.
Raion was at the gates, going over the patrol route once more to make sure he's got it. Pansa was the one keeping an eye out for the others, his black Atoneko Nin cat companion which resembles a panther. Raion's attention was completely focused on that paper. He really didn't want to mess this up clearly.
Hanami shows up on time, easily paced. She stretches, smiling and waving at the two, "Heya Raion, Pansa. Look at you, all in charge and stuff!" She grins and winks, teasing, "So a simple patrol today huh? Sounds good to me." She leans down to look at Pansa, "You making sure this in charge stuff isn't swelling his head too much right Pansa?" She laughs and stands back up, waiting comfortably.
Probably one of the first to arrive is a slightly younger woman carrying a long, smooth black stick in her left hand. Anyone who has any sort of battle experience knows they don't even make staves that smooth or well kept. However, the slow, easy pace of the woman could be a little disconcerting. Then Rangiku finds Raion and the panther nearby. "ah, there you are." Rangiku says as she walks in Raion's and Hanami's direction. "Not late, am I?"
Shinobu got the message, and her eye widened with alarm when she read over it. This sounded scary! And no one she knew would be on it… The girl is almost tempted to decline, but then Kaido might be mad… And Kame is excited, so the girl picks Kame up and makes her way to the gates. In her arms is a black puppy, her ninken, and the girl is able to make it to the gates. A small wave is given to those present, though Shinobu is a good two yards from everyone present. One has to wonder if she's even on this mission. Kame barks cheerfully… Then yips excitedly and scrambles a bit from the girl's arms to try and tackle-pounce Pansa. Yip! ~Cat! Cat! Big cat!!~
Raion looks up as Hanami arrives, being tipped off by Pansa, "Yes. Shouldn't be hard at all." He then looks as Rangiku shows up. And Pansa looks at Hanami with a tired look. The one he always has. "Yes, I'm here to make sure he doesn't go mad with power and destroy the world. Because that can definitely happen." He says sarcastically. Then Raion speaks to Rangiku, "Nope, not at all. And even if you were late, it wouldn't be a big problem." Both Raion and Pansa look when their sensitive ears hear a bark, and then a yip. Pansa rises to his paws, and watches the pup as it rushes him, and he moves out of the way in a short graceful movement, keeping himself facing the pup. "I assume this is the Inuzuka's companion, that was going to be coming with us. You're quite energetic." Raion looks at the pup, then at the girl, and gestures for her to come closer, before beginning to speak again, "Well. Okay. So the route we're going to be taking is, were going to go out the gate, circle the outside of village, to make sure no one is trying to enter some way other than the gates somehow, and then were going to go down and go for a little walk through the Land of Lightning. We aren't going very far at all though, and we come right back after that. Alright? Shouldn't have anything bad happen, at all." Raion smiles at the group and puts away the paper.
"Shouldn't doesn't mean won't." Rangiku says with a chuckle. "No biggie. With this many eyes, very few people are going to sneak their way in." She's way too casual about this. WAY too casual. Like going for a midday stroll for this woman it seems. "We're not expecting any trouble, are we?"
Hanami waves to Rangiku and Shinobu, laugh a bit as Kame goes for Pansa before she can answer his comment. She instead listens to Raion, nodding, "Quick and hopefully simple, but yeah I think we'll be able to make sure the village is protected." Noticing the nervous Shinobu she gives the girl a warm smile, "Hey, I remember you from the other day, the match against your friend. Hope you're both enjoying the village."
Kame scrambles a bit, paws skidding on the stone road as she tries to actually grab Pansa, only for her feet to fly from under her. The pup lands on her side with a small yelp, and she whines. Yip! ~Meanie cat! You made me fall!~ The pup gets up, fortunately durable, and gives herself a shake before making her way over to her partner. Shinobu is almost there, anyway, picking Kame up and snuggling her ninken like a plushie. Her eye was wide with nervousness, and Hanami was on her blind side. Even though she had good hearing and a great sense of smell, neither are refined to the point where she can tell minute movements. She jumps slightly when Hanami speaks, then shuffles a bit in her spot and nods quietly before she hides her face in Kame's fur.
Raion only now stands, and looks over everyone, "Well. No, we aren't expecting trouble. But we should of course be ready. In case we do come across someone who's not doing what they're supposed to. Well, we should probably get going." Pansa eyes the pup, and as soon as Raion starts walking towards the gate, he follows. Raion leads the way with Pansa just behind him, allowing the others to order themselves however they want.
Waving to Hanami, Rangiku giggles at Kame. "Silly puppy." She then smiles to Shinobu. "No need to be shy. We're not going to hurt you…." She then starts after Raion rather easily, having a fluid grace that someone that her perceived 'laziness' should not have. Of course, that stick in her left hand may be a bit of a hint. "You taking the lead? And to we call you Raion-sensei, or something else?"
Hanami does a cursory check of her gear but knows she has her stuff. A chakram in hand just in case she follows out after Raion and Pansa easily, light on her feet and keeping her senses alert to nearby chakra and the wind itself, infused with her chakra. She isn't bothered by Shinobu's reaction, she could tell from before the girl was a bit skittish.

Shinobu glances down at her ninken, and the pup gives an encouraging yip. The girl nods slowly and makes her way after Raion and the other two, taking up the rear. As she follows, she makes a few handseals. A genjutsu would hopefully latch onto the minds of her new teammates. If they allow it to take hold, they would feel… Nothing. No effect. And then a small voice would creep into their senses, sounding like a young girl. Probably Shinobu? 'I.. Ummm… have… the rear…' she mumbles quietly through the genjutsu. Fortunately, the others would always be able to hear her, however quiet that voice is.

Raion nods when Rangiku asks if he is taking the lead, but seems a bit confused when she asks if they should refer to him as Sensei… "Uhm, no. Not unless you wanted to I suppose. -san or something would be more appropriate. I don't really outrank you so I see no reason to be referred to as any sort of superior, not yet anyways." Raion shrugs, and continues to walk. When he hears the voice in his head he looks around in a bit of a startled manner, "What? Was that?" Raion looks at the back of the group and sees the girl, and blinks a few times before it clicks, "Oh, okay. You don't talk so you use… Whatever this is to talk. Gotcha." With that the group begins their patrol around the outside of the village.

Rangiku nods to Raion. "Raion-san then. Rangiku…" She introduces herself fairly quickly just before she jumps at the voice in her head, having both hands on the staff in her left hand…before she recognizes the voice….slightly. "You startled me. Please warn me before you do that." She says taking her right hand off of the staff. The way she was holding it….it definitely wasn't a staff….

Hanami keeps her senses alert, though not real tense. She isn't writing this off by no means, just that she feels good even if there's trouble they'll still be fine. Nothing to worry about. When the quiet voice echoes in her head though she stumbles briefly, taking a moment to register who it could've come from. Glancing back at Shinobu puzzled, she tries to correct herself and just gives the girl a brief smile and nod letting her know she heard her and things were okay. After that, business as usual continuing on.

Shinobu immediately looks put out by Rangiku, head going down so her eye can stare at the ground. She's so distracted by her nerves and feelings of guilt that she barely takes notice of her surroundings, leaving most of the detection to Kame. 'G…. gomen…' comes the soft voice across the genjutsu. She continues forth, even less enthusiastic than before, if that's even possible.

Hanami is the first to sense something wrong in the air. Chakra… it's faint, meaning it's either far away, or just very weak and nearby. What's stranger is that it quickly dissipates. Raion's ear twitches, as does Pansa's, they both stop and look out in the distance. "Hmm… I don't know what that was. I heard the sound of something rustling, pretty far away that way." Raion points off in the distance. Shinobu/Kame would also suddenly catch the sent of someone from that direction, someone unfamiliar. Though the scent also starts to rapidly leave. Raion shrugs, and looks to the others. "Well, whatever it was, it sounded like it was leaving, not getting closer. Should we investigate? Or move on?"
"Better to check it out and be sure, then move on." Rangiku says softly. "better to make sure there's no one there than to find out there's something coming too late because we didn't catch it on our sweep." She doesn't hear anything, probably from the all-encompassing guilt sphere that Shinobu is giving off from Rangiku turning on her. Not like she meant to……but Genjutsu kinda worries Rangiku.
Hanami stills the instant she senses the chakra, her senses not great or too keen to really pinpoint it so Raion's pointing helps. And yet as quickly as it's sensed it fades which makes her all the more curious. And worried. Frowning she looks to Raion, "If the chakra faded so quickly, whoever or whatever is up there probably sensed us about the same time and is trying to hide themselves." She scratches her head, "What about splitting up? Not far, just enough to pincer whatever it is over there? Two and two, come from both sides and hope we can still catch it or a sign?"
Shinobu doesn't smell anything, but Kame catches something faint. She yips, and interestingly, the other shinobi would be able to understand her despite the fact she's using the Inuzuka's language. Yip! ~I dunno the scent, and it doesn't smell like someone from the village, either. I think we should check it out! Hanami's plan sounds good!~ Never mind that they didn't tell anyone their /own/ names! Shinobu says nothing, not even through the genjutsu. Instead, her gaze lifts briefly to look at Raion and hear what his decision is. If they decide to move against this stranger, she would set Kame down in preparation of a battle. Otherwise she would continue to carry her ninken.

We'll do what Hanami suggested and pincer them if we can spot them." With that he takes a running stance before calling out to Rangiku, "if you can't keep up that's okay, Pansa will stay close to you Rangiku-san, even if I get a bit ahead. Let's go!" Raion then takes off with incredible speed, it's not quite at Body Flicker level of speed, but he seems to be getting close to it.

Rangiku still can't see anything, but then again, she wasn't that skilled in looking for things. She nods and goes after Raion with……alarming speed for a Genin. "Right. I'll keep up as best as I can." The best she can is still rather……fast.
Hanami gives a short nod to Raion, "Got it." Then looks to Shinobu and gives her a smile, "Lets go then partner." She takes off to the right as instructed, moving quickly though if need be she'll slow down enough for Shinobu and Kame to keep up, not wanting to be separated. But otherwise she hurries around to the right, keeping her senses alert for any sign of their mysterious observer.

Shinobu nods and takes off after Hanami, Kame following right on her heels. The pair picked up the scent once, and now it seems to have reached their nose again. The young girl sort of nudges Hanami closer and closer towards the scent if she can, wanting to get this over with as quickly as possible. Hopefully no one gets hurt!
The group splits, and actually manages to catch up with the ones they detected earlier. Mostly because they are making no effort to conceal themselves nor move, at all. Raion barely spots them and stops. And waits for the others for a moment, but then wastes no time in approaching the group. It consists of 3 men looking of average build, one with a scar across his cheek, one with a scarf like thing tied around his neck, and the last holding a… rather poorly made sword. It looks dull. All standing in front of a larger man, who looks like he's spent his entire life training. If Hanami can pinpoint where large amounts of built up chakra are coming from, it's from him. Raion looks at them, and the three smaller men all tense up, as if ready to attack. But the man standing behind them calls them off and steps forward, in front of them. He says nothing. Just kinda stares. Then speaks after a seemingly long while, "Good. I was hoping you'd follow." He glances around briefly, then looks back at Raion, and possibly Rangiku if she joined him already. "Where are the other two(or three if Rangiku hid)?" Beyond that he says nothing, and focuses on Raion, but the other three are looking around for the others. They seem to care.
Hide Rangiku does, because, quite frankly, this is the Raion show. He's in command, and she's there to support him. Most of what she has is speed anyways. But she listens to what they're talking about……like why the rest are hiding.

Hanami makes her way to the group, sensing the big man's chakra before she can get close enough to see them. Before she gets too close though she signals Shinobu and Kame to move quietly, trying to be stealthy in their approach. No point in giving themselves away just yet.

Shinobu is able to move silently enough, staying downwind and under the cover of nearby boulders and trees once she skids a bit to a halt when Hanami gestures to do so. She glances around the boulder curiously, wondering who these guys are, even as she strains her senses to try and hear the conversation.

The Big Guy continues to stare Raion down, the Sword Guy scans his surroundings, and the Scar Guy closes his eyes and sits still for a moment, but then his eyes snap open and he locks onto the exact spot where Shinobu is… And the Scarf Guy… Just keeps looking around. Obviously the oblivious one. At the same time, Sword Guy leaps towards Rangiku suddenly and makes three quick slashes at her, and Scar Guy does hand seals, and then thrusts his hand out palm first in Shinobu's direction. A bolt of electricity fires out at Shinobu, then a second. The Strong Guy's arms light up with electricity. "We're taking your headbands. By force. This is the only way." After that he pulls back and as he swings the electricity fires out as well, causing a sort of explosion and making it more dangerous than just a punch. He does a second swing as well. Meanwhile the Scarf Guy just looks totally lost. And looks around at the others. "Wha- Where's the one I was supposed to get?!"

Raion is caught a bit off guard by the sudden attack aimed at him, but still managed move out of the way, even moving out of the way of the explosive force behind it. He blinks at the man and then says, "Our headbands? I'm afraid that isn't gonna happen. You picked a bad group to get it from!" Raion ducks down before suddenly launching forward at an awkward angle, attempting to claw the large man, and then Pansa does the same, and Raion even makes a second pass.

The swift sword strike guy will find something MORE than a match which it comes to Rangiku. Three quick sword slashes and three quick dodges leaves Rangiku completely untouched by the sword. After the last move to avoid the sword, she ends up upon the swordman's weak side, without the sword…….and a flash of steel is seen before a 'clink' can be heard of the 'staff' Rangiku was holding……that is definitely not a staff….but a sword.

Hanami seems to have kept quiet from the men for the moment while the others were attacked. After their headbands? What for? She considers her options, could just pick a guy and launch into an attack. Or… She hmms, might as well go big. If it works, could help matters and they could possibly get some information from these guys. So getting close she inhales, swirling chakra and exhales a strong vortex of wind straight at the group of bad guys. She then follows it up by a wind laced kunai aimed at the man going after Shinobu since he's probably fairly close.

Shinobu's eye widens slightly as she realizes that lightning is coming right at her! The girl narrowly avoids the lightning, leaning back almost on instinct as she glances over to the attacker. Kame avoids the lighting with ease, and the pair crouch down on all fours, glancing between their targets. With a surge of chakra, both Inuzuka come crashing down onto the group, not hesitating despite Shinobu's usual timidness, in a whirling barrage of fangs and claws.

The Strong Guy tries to position his arm to block Raion's claws, but can't quite do it, Raion keeps shifting so that he gets around it. He seems frustrated, meanwhile the Sword Guy tries to block Rangiku's strike, but can't quite do it. He takes a good cut. And then a strong blast of wind comes flying in! All of them are affected and knocked off balance, forcing them to take hits! Shinobu and Kame's spinning attack bounces between them, but as soon as Strong Guy gains his bearings, his slams his arm against her, and focuses chakra into his arm so it either barely did damage to him, or didn't at all. He's bloodied, and looks angry. "I see… I made a bad call. But it's too late to pull out. Win or die trying!" With that he focuses the same Lightning Chakra into his arm and tries twice more to punch Raion. The others all do the same attacks once again, except for Scarf, he's finally capable of doing something! "There ya are!" He reaches into two pouches on opposite ends of his body, and pulls out a large number of kunai, before flinging all of them at Hanami in three separate barrages.

Raion once again easily avoids his strikes, and lowers himself a bit. "I've had enough of this." With that, he glances at Pansa, he lowers himself as well. "We'll end this!" With that they both become a blur, dashing from enemy to enemy and slashing them again and again. He hopes this, alongside the other's attacks, will be enough to drop them!

Did we mention Rangiku is fast? She seems to be getting faster as the fight goes on, like she has practiced against sword fighting. Hmmm…who knew. Again, flashes of steel come out, a trio of them this time against the swordman facing her, before Rangiku appears behind the swordsman, and the sword in her hand clinks as she slides it back into her scabbard.

Hanami watches in satisfaction as her jutsu hits the group, causing a bit of confusion which is followed up by a kunai to one. As the others make their attacks she listens to the Strong Guy, and then can't help herself. Instead of attacking she calls out, "Why do you want our headbands, why is it a do or die situation to you huh?"

Shinobu seems content with the death and destruction (well, it's more like injuries and destruction) that she had unleashed upon the men. Kame yips, and the two focus their energy into sending these bad guys into a fearful illusion. Wolves would howl and suddenly appear before them, sending terror into the men if they succumb to the Genjutsu. Then the wolves would pounce on their targets, sending each man into the void. … At least in their minds.
Raion's barrage shreds through the group as he swiftly dashes from person to person, none of them able to stop him, and all but one end up dropping, semi-unconscious. Sword Guy only manages to block the last strike from Rangiku between Raion's strikes. Strong Guy stands there, trying to do something about Raion. But he just can't. When the barrage finally stops he's barely standing. And when Hanami asks her question he looks at her. Blood practically covering him. "Wouldn't you like to know." Is all he says before all of the group hear wolves… The howls. Then they get swarmed, seeing each other getting their throats torn out. And then finally, themselves. And they drop into unconsciousness. Believing they've fully died. And without immediate medical attention, they probably will.
Raion goes and reports to the village, requesting Medic Nin pick them up and stabilize them, and then send them to a prison. After that the group goes through a normal patrol. No more strange attacks. No traps. Just a nice peaceful walk.
