Summary:
A pair of genin are selected for a B-rank mission, for some odd reason. But how hard or dangerous could it be to collect a flower?

Shyean Forest - Inside [Iwagakure]

This forest was planted and grown as a place where members of the village can come and escape into a peaceful environment without leaving the safety of the village. Set on the northern borders of the village, this forest is huge containing various species of animal life, several ponds and rivers as well as mazes of forest paths leading to various different locations.
The entrance of the forest envelops the path as it splits into four different walkways, each leading into an individual destination. Squirrels can be found wandering the entrance looking for acorns from the trees at the start while birds swoop in the sky looking for prey to catch within this opening.
The bushes and trees found here vary in sizes and shapes, some sections of the forest are incredibly dense with tall trees while other sections are small bushes and trees. There are no little to no people staying in the forest but hermits were seen heading inside perhaps towards their hidden homes set somewhere inside. Only the great Toshiba Forest said to be planted by the 1st and 2nd Hokage in Konohagakure can rival the beauty of this forest.

A summons went out for a couple of genin to meet up for a mission. When they arrive at their departure point, they find Kamizuru Cherii awaiting them. "Top o' th'day tae ye," Cherii says in a chipper yet business-like tone. "I hope ye both be well-rested an' hale, because 'tis a tricky task ahead o' ye." Cherii holds out a scroll, which has a mission seal on it…indicating a B-rank!?
"Ye're tae collect a rare flower fer me," Cherii explains. "'Tis called a crystal lily, an' it only blooms once every five years. Th'scroll has a picture o' it, along wi' directions tae get there an' information aboot th'plant. Ye'd best take it and read it along th'way, ye've nae much time tae get there. I wasnae expecting th'weather tae turn this fair for another week at least, it'll bloom anytime noo." :P Cherii gives a wave and heads back toward the village proper. "Come find me at th'Kamizuru Sweet Shoppe when ye have it!"
Kaneko would show Akio the letter she got, the letter being addressed to both of them considering (as far as she knew) they lived in the same house. Kaneko was quick to prepare for the mission at hand, excitement fueling her steps as she makes her way to meet Cherii. "Hi, Cherii-san!" she greets cheerfully. She was about to ask what they were going to do, but then Cherii holds out a … O.O; Kaneko would take it if Akio didn't move to, the girl breaking the seal but not opening it per Cherii's advice. "Got it…" she says, wondering why it was a B rank. "We'll hurry up, then! Thanks, Cherii-san!" she calls out before turning to Akio. "Well… I guess we should go, huh, Akio-kun?" she suggests, even as she starts heading out at a decent pace. To her, it felt as though time was of the essence… Moving forward, she would read over the directions and instructions, passing it to Akio once she was done.
They did indeed still live in the same house so here he was joining Kaneko on this mission. He just got what he had on hand and started heading out with her. It wouldn't take long before they got there and heard all the news. Kaneko would be the one to grab the scroll of course as Akio didn't act to get it. "B-Rank huh?" He asked her simply enough before nodding and looking at Kaneko. "Alright. Lets go." He would read the instructions on the scroll when it was handed to him, and he would rush ahead with Kaneko by his side. He wondered what would make this a B-Rank. Were others after this too?
The inside of the scroll shows a detailed picture of the flower in question, instructions for properly harvesting the bloom (basically cut the stem as close to the branch as possible and then handle with care), and a map of directions to the spot where it's known to grow. The path is a rather winding and deep one through the forest, to a place far from where most people would wander. After unrolling the scroll all the way to the end of the map, there is…smudges. C.C; Apparently something happened to the innermost part of the scroll, rendering the rest indecipherable. At best one can tell it used to be some more writing and another picture of something or other.
At any rate, there are no particular setbacks on the way to the target location, and soon enough, there it is. At the top of a tangle of roots stands a flower with nearly-transparent white petals, spotlighted by a small shaft of sun coming through the dense overgrowth.
Kaneko kept the image of the flower in mind. She would probably double check the harvesting instructions later. What bothered her was the fact that there were smudges at the bottom of the scroll… "I wonder what those smudges were…" she says aloud to Akio as they move, even as Kaneko moves with Akio towards the flower. Eventually, thanks to no strange problems, they both find the flower. "Well… This was easy…" she says, feeling like there has to be more to this mission. Regardless, Kaneko would bring out a kunai and start moving up the tangle of roots to get that flower. It was totally their target! "Akio-kun, keep an eye out for any trouble," she calls out as she approaches the plant. She would kneel down slightly so she can use her kunai to harvest this flower properly.
Akio shrugged a bit. "I can't tell what they are Kaneko. Maybe a different mission was on this or something?" He asked her before just going quiet. For a long time he continued onwards. Not long later he saw it as well as her. "I don't know. Doesn't it feel too easy for a B-Rank?" He asked her. "I will keep an eye out I guess." He said before scanning the area with chakra. Any sorta vibrations on the ground in the nearby area would likely get seen at least. "I will. Lets hurry up. Just get this over with." He said quickly.
Of course there's more to it. It's a B-rank, after all! As Kaneko touches the delicate blossom, the mass of roots underneath her creaks and shifts. Suddenly several woody tendrils whip up from the earth and lash around Kaneko! A host of other roots push the knobby little hill upwards, like some freakish octopus of gnarled wood, and a gaping, chip-toothed maw is revealed on the underside. Apparently well aware that its prey didn't come alone, the monster hurls a fallen log at Akio.

Kaneko blinks a bit when she hears something and then feels movement below her feet. The girl would glance down, and then all the sudden the 'ground' below her explodes. Kaneko leaps up to try and avoid the tendrils of wood, the girl jumping back rather far so that she lands closer to the base of the pile. "Okay, then…" she says with a small frown. "Akio-kun! Make sure you /don't/ hit the flower if you use your ninjutsu!" she calls out, drawing her sword and stowing her kunai. The girl would take a moment to focus her chakra, glaring at the monster and studying it closely.

Akio felt the bit of vibrations and would react quickly to form a dome of earth around him. It was dented of course and dirt and rock cracked and fell a bit, but it protected him. Quickly he would form hand seals in a counter attack though. "I won't damage it. I will just hold it there so you can cut into it. You can do that against this right?" He asked her, but would attempt an attack of sorts anyways. Metal would arise from the ground in an attempt to wrap the giant plant thing up. Also he wondered if the rest of it showed this form……

The metal snakes around the roots, pinning them against the ground. Good plan! Only a dozen or so more roots to go. c.c The root monster is held more or less in place by what Akio's done so far, but it's by no means incapacitated. Sensing danger, it retaliates with a devious attack. Spiking its free limbs into the ground, it burrows through the earth and stabs at Kaneko and Akio from unpredictable angles.

Kaneko is a bit quicker to defend herself this time, parrying the stabbing limbs and otherwise blocking their attempts to try and injure her. The girl would follow up by chasing down after that flower she thought she saw. "Got it!" she calls back to Akio, the girl moving swiftly to try and slice off one or two of the limbs with her sword, then she would aim a slightly more accurate attack to try and cut the flower off the monster.

Akio this time was hit as it just speared right through the dome and stabbed him. "Ow. Kaneko I think I can tell why this is B-Rank." He frowned and chakra started rushing through him. This time he was aiming to bind all the roots at once when using the binding. Though this gave a better chance he would miss. Maybe Kaneko would've already got it by then anyways? "Alrighty. What do we do about this anyways?"

The monster displays the sinuous agility of a creature with extremely flexible limbs, twisting this way and that to avoid nearly everything thrown at it. Nearly everything…but the one thing that hits is the most important. *snik* And off comes the vital flower. Apparently this is UNFORGIVABLE to the monster. It tears loose of the metal bindings and rears up, spewing a vile acid in Kaneko's direction.

Kaneko grabs the flower quickly, but then the monster seems even more angry! She squeaks a bit, her right hand dropping her sword for favor of a length of metal on her back that she uses to knock away the acid in a spinning motion that makes a form of shield. That metal is then used to lash out at the monster, trying to encircle some of its limbs. She would leave it be, moving to grab her sword from where she had dropped it before rushing over to Akio. "Got it! But… We should get out of here before we have to keep fighting it. Make a clean getaway," she suggests to him.

Akio frowned as he didn't feel like he did much to help there, but just nods towards Kaneko. "Okay. I hope you can run and hide from it then. I am gonna escape my way." He slips into the ground and starts moving through the dirt away from the plant. He would try his best to avoid the roots so that he can just escape it in general. He would try to stay close to Kaneko though since he could sense her likely on the ground.

For all its seeming cunning and ability to sense things with no visible eyes or ears, the wood creature is quickly baffled by the sneaky techniques of the ninja. It scrabbles agitatedly in all directions after losing track of them, apparently unable to decide which way to pursue, then gives a frustrated snarl and *WHUMPFS* back down. >
Back at the Kamizuru Sweet Shoppe, Cherii comes out from the kitchen in back shortly after Kaneko and Akio enter the premises. "Ach, ye're back," says Cherii, seeming a touch out of breath. "D'ye have th'flower?" n.n;
Kaneko would just nod to Akio and rush after him, essentially leaving the weird plant creature frustrated that it couldn't kill its targets. Phew! x.x; Once they reached Iwagakure and the Sweet Shoppe, Kaneko would look a bit tired from the run, but she would nod to Cherii. "Hai!" she says, pausing to take a breath before holding out the flower. She had managed to cut it off and grab it, and it didn't look completely damaged after that whole issue. "Here you are, Cherii-san! I'm sorry it might look a bit worn down, but there was a weird plant monster that was trying to attack us while we were getting it," she informs, offering it to the Kamizuru.
Akio looked at Kaneko and just nods as he is following her on land now. It wouldn't be long before they made it back. "Why was there a giant flower monster? Was that the thing on the scroll that was not visible at all? Like the part that was scrubbed away or what not." He poked Kaneko. "Show her what I mean." He told her and he frowned a bit just naturally. "Either way. Are we good then? Is that our mission finished?" He asked of Cherii."
Cherii looks surprised. "What's that? There was a part o' th'scroll that was scrubbed away? How unfortunate!" 8O Cherii carefully takes the flower. "Thank goodness ye were able tae manage a'right anyway. Let's see noo…" Cherii delicately peels away a couple of damaged petals, then places the remaining flower on top of a multi-layered cake. "There, all ready tae celebrate the Tsuchikage's appointment." n.n Cherii hands the damaged petals back to the two genin. "Here, ye deserve a taste, seein' as ye fetched it. 'Tis mostly made o' crystallized sugars. I'll be sure tae tell th'Tsuchikage aboot your part in me little confection." ;)
Kaneko would nod and unroll the scroll to show Cherii the smudged out part. "Here," She says, holding it up to the Kamizuru. When Cherii casually puts the flower on the cake and then mentions that it's a sugar flower, she blinks and sort of stares at Cherii. "Wha- …" She would sort of stare a bit longer before shaking her head. "Umm… Arigatou, Cherii-san… I'm glad we were able to help you with retrieving the flower." Even if it was some sort of candy-treat meant for a cake topping…
Akio stared blankly and was just like Wha-? "But….. Okay then." He frowned. "I don't tend to eat sweets." Never was allowed them when a captive so it imprinted in his mind that it be bad! "So this was a B-Rank official mission then?" He asked. "And ummm…. What of that flower anyways? The one that actually fought back. Is that normal?" He asked again. "And why did you hand us a scroll that was smudged out!"
Cherii nods as she picks up the cake. "Aye, an official mission I commissioned meself. A wee bit extravagant, I know, but 'tis appropriate for a new Tsuchikage, y'ken? A special cake that took a serious ninja mission t'make." Cherii grunts as she hauls the cake off, apparently too burdened to answer Akio's other question. ;9

Akio looked at Kaneko and just nods as he is following her on land now. It wouldn't be long before they made it back. "Why was there a giant flower monster? Was that the thing on the scroll that was not visible at all? Like the part that was scrubbed away or what not." He poked Kaneko. "Show her what I mean." He told her and he frowned a bit just naturally. "Either way. Are we good then? Is that our mission finished?" He asked of Cherii."
Cherii looks surprised. "What's that? There was a part o' th'scroll that was scrubbed away? How unfortunate!" 8O Cherii carefully takes the flower. "Thank goodness ye were able tae manage a'right anyway. Let's see noo…" Cherii delicately peels away a couple of damaged petals, then places the remaining flower on top of a multi-layered cake. "There, all ready tae celebrate the Tsuchikage's appointment." n.n Cherii hands the damaged petals back to the two genin. "Here, ye deserve a taste, seein' as ye fetched it. 'Tis mostly made o' crystallized sugars. I'll be sure tae tell th'Tsuchikage aboot your part in me little confection." ;)
Kaneko would nod and unroll the scroll to show Cherii the smudged out part. "Here," She says, holding it up to the Kamizuru. When Cherii casually puts the flower on the cake and then mentions that it's a sugar flower, she blinks and sort of stares at Cherii. "Wha- …" She would sort of stare a bit longer before shaking her head. "Umm… Arigatou, Cherii-san… I'm glad we were able to help you with retrieving the flower." Even if it was some sort of candy-treat meant for a cake topping…
Akio stared blankly and was just like Wha-? "But….. Okay then." He frowned. "I don't tend to eat sweets." Never was allowed them when a captive so it imprinted in his mind that it be bad! "So this was a B-Rank official mission then?" He asked. "And ummm…. What of that flower anyways? The one that actually fought back. Is that normal?" He asked again. "And why did you hand us a scroll that was smudged out!"
Cherii nods as she picks up the cake. "Aye, an official mission I commissioned meself. A wee bit extravagant, I know, but 'tis appropriate for a new Tsuchikage, y'ken? A special cake that took a serious ninja mission t'make." Cherii grunts as she hauls the cake off, apparently too burdened to answer Akio's other question. ;9
