Arika and Hiroto go on a patrol, and they end up encountering a huge scorpion attacking some innocent travelers!

Arika sits by the gate, waiting for the others that were supposed to go on this mission. She got some of the details already via messenger hawk. A simple patrol! The girl grumbles a bit as she waits, a bit impatient to get going. The day was super hot, of course, considering Sunagakure was in the middle of a desert. But the girl was used to it. That, and she was able to suffer through quite a bit thanks to the Hachibi. That being said… ~So I can't show myself this time around?~ 'No' ~When do I get to have some fun?~ 'Around never.' ~Should I just break free again?~ 'You've had that chance for forever. If yer gonna do it, do it already.' ~…~
Hiroto was heading towards the gate slowly. He didn't mind the heat either growing up in the desert and all. His companion Tenshi made it to the gate much faster then Hiroto. Mostly because once he saw Arika he zoomed down to meet her there. Tenshi landed next to her, and did his little bird walk up to her leg. About that time Hiroto showed up, and waved over towards Ari. "Hey."
Arika perks up at seeing Tenshi and leans down to gently pat him on the head. "Ne! Ten-kun! Where's Hiro-kun?" The girl glances up when Hiro makes his way over and grins. "Hiro-kun! Ready? I'm pretty sure this's just a patrol, so it should be pretty easy, ne? I dunno if we'll run into any trouble, though…" She frowns a bit, then glances out at the gates. "We just gotta go along Sector 5 for a bit… Only part of it. So should be okay…" She nods lightly.
Tenshi looked up at Hiroto, and flew up and onto his head. "Uhhh yeah. That works for me. Shouldn't be hard really, so I can go with it." Hiroto petted Tenshi real quick before making a sound quickly, and Tenshi waited a moment before flapping off into the air. "Alright Arika. Ready when you are." With that he would step over towards the gate, and waits for her to step out first.

Arika noddles and makes a handseal. Then a bunch of small black critters made of ink would skitter off to scout ahead. "Ready!" She tells Hiroto before the girl would make her way off into the desert at a steady pace. She would occasionally glance back to make sure Hiro was keeping up, but otherwise wouldn't slow down. "After this, we should get food," Arika tells Hiro, the girl nodding a bit. "We should get a buncha snacks and … umm… I dunno. Have fun! And… Umm… Make it a party!"

Tenshi went a pretty good distance ahead. The bird was probably barely visible to Arika, but Hiroto could see him clearly if he looked while funneling chakra to his eyes. When Arika began speaking he smiled some, but of course being on a mission he had his mask on. "I could do some food…. and a bunch of snacks, but the party… I mean I don't know for sure. Would depend on the party I suppose. I could do it though if you really wanted me to." Hiroto looked around himself to assist with his birds own examination.

It doesn't seem like there's much out here. Eventually, though, Tenshi's sharp eyes would see some travelers up ahead! Arika's scouts don't have the distance that Tenshi has, so it takes them a bit longer to see the travelers. "Yay! We should get mochi, and some grilled stuff, and…" ~No octopus~ 'Fine' "Umm… mochi… And maybe we could get some other things. I dunno…" She frowns a bit in thought, then her mind is back on the mission. "Ne, d'you see anything? You or Ten-kun?"
Hiroto watches Tenshi for a moment while Arika speaks. When her question is asked he nods slowly. "Yeah he found something. One moment." After looking ahead himself he spot it. There are a group of travelers up ahead. "Travelers up ahead. Should we check it out?" He waits for her answer before saying anything else. "Oh about the Mochi and what not? I think that would be nice to do. We can talk about it much easier once we get back if you want?" Tenshi himself is still circling keeping an eye out on and around the travelers.

"Mebbe we should make sure they're doin' okay," Arika tells Hiroto after a moment's thought. The girl nods a bit. "Gotta make sure they aren't bandits!" Arika glances up at Tenshi, then says, "Hiro-kun, lead the way. I can't see the travelers yet." Of course, they may not have much time… Tench would notice a bit of shuffling in the sand. The kind of shuffling that tended to signify something dangerous was nearby…
Hiroto got the notifcation from Tenshi just as Arika and him headed off. "Yeah we should get there quickly. Even if they are not bandits there is something shuffling in the sand it seems. Can't tell yet what exactly, but it can't be good." He rushed off, and Tenshi lowered some to get a closer look. He knew to stay out of range of people like the travellers when Hiroto wasn't to close, but some people may have tricks up there sleeves. Still he had to check on what was in the sand.

Arika nods a bit and follows after Hiro, keeping herself a bit behind him since she didn't know where the travelers were. When he mentions something that seemed ready to attack the travelers, she would frown. "Le's hurry up, then," the girl tells the Hayato, nudging him to move faster. She would keep back a bit to make sure nothing was tailing them, and also she didn't want to overtake Hiro when he was showing her the way!
The pair would reach the travelers just in time, too! As soon as the Suna-nin were within shouting distance of the travelers, a huge scorpion reared its ugly head and tail. The latter suddenly would come crashing down onto the civilians, cart and all! D: The pincer-claw thingies that the scorpion had would lash out at another poor bystander. And, of course, giant scorpions are just a bit faster than civilians, so Arika and Hiro better be quick if they want to save these travelers…

Arika blinks, then disappears in a burst of wind, appearing in front of the huge tail. Well, there were two Arikas, actually. The clone would be launched at the huge tail, and Arika would try to kick it back a bit herself. With the two Ari-s working together, the tail itself doesn't hit the cart, though it does come remarkably close to accidentally hitting one of the villager folk. Oops!

Hiroto watched as Arika dashed forwards, and Hiroto did so as quickly as he could as well. Upon reaching there he reacted by jumping, and grabbing the man pulling him with him past the pincers. Tenshi flew down some more, but quickly flew another direction for now staying out of range of that tail of the scorpion. "You all should try to get out of here while we distract this, but make sure there are no more nearby. Or at least be careful as you do it." He pulls his bow out once he is slightly away from the person next to him, and first fires a forked arrow at the Scorpion in front of him. He hoped that even if its limbs were bigger that the arrow would just stab through and stick into the sand slightly, but the chances were not too great. Then he fired a simple arrow for damage.

The large scorpion would rawr (can scorpions do that?) and bring its tail up and around to block Hiroto's arrows. One of them, the forked arrow, would bury itself into the armored tail, but the other one just bounces off harmlessly. The villager that was saved by Hiro was quite surprised to suddenly just be grabbed and dragged off. In fact, he ended up trying to hit the Hayato a few times before he realized he was being rescued! "R… right…" he mutters, scrambling away to try and save his cart.
Arika peers at the huge scorpion and frowns. "Meanie scorpion! You shouldn't attack people like that!" she huffs out, making a handseal. She gathers wind chakra to her hand and whips it out at the large scorpion, hoping to slice through a lot of its armor so that Hiro can actually stick an arrow through it!
Mr. Scorpion isn't too happy. A lot of his armor ends up getting cut off thanks to Arika's wind, and it retaliates by trying to grab … the lesser threat! Hiroto would get to run away from one of the huge pincers while the tail would swing down to try and stab the boy through. Once the scorpion is satisfied that its victim was taken care of, it would try to stab Arika.

Hiroto moves through the pincer in a timely fashion causing it to shut just as he gets through. That also caused his tail to simply miss because it's pincer became a barrier. Thanks to Arika's smart thinking about the armor he could see where some weaker points were, and his arrows were aimed for those spots. He would charge extra chakra into the first two, so if they did hit the impact would cause more severe damage, but the last one would be aimed more, so as to not miss all if he missed the first two.

Arika dashes away from the barrage of tail-stings, giving a faint sigh of relief. "Hrm… Meanie scorpion…" She glances back to check that all the villagers are gone and notes that they're trying to all get the wagon to safety. Fortunately, it seems the scorpion is paying attention more to her and Hiroto than it is the civilians. Arika's attention shifts to the large bug and she sends three more blades of wind at it, hoping to slice off more of its armor.
The scorpion is just a bit smarter this time around. Instead of using its damaged tail to defend against the attacks, it uses its much-more-durable pincer. Apparently, the pincer is far too durable, as all the attacks on it seem to bounce off harmlessly! Well, that wasn't fun for the Suna-nin…. And now the scorpion is /really/ angry. It burrows into the ground…

Hiroto was frustrated slightly by the scorpion blocking his arrows. Only thing he could do now was concentrate on hitting it more so then killing it. Before he was able to fire another arrow though he saw it start burrowing into the ground. Luckily his eyes knew what the slight movements were, and if he could not spot it he could get help from Tenshi. This time all he fired was three arrows quickly back to back to try to damage it before it can block the attacks.

Well, the scorpion now has an arrow in the fleshy part of its tail, but then it goes underground completely, burrowing far enough that neither Arika nor Hiroto can get to it. Arika tried, of course. The girl slammed a blade made of pure wind-chakra where the scorpion was vanishing, but she didn't hit anything. "…" Arika grumbles unhappily, holding out her hand to her side to make an even longer blade. This one was really more like a spear. The girl takes the windy spear and slams it into the ground, feeling it crush the scorpion below the sand. "Got it!" Arika huffs out, letting the chakra-shaped weapon disappear. Yeah, she was a bit frustrated by that point… "Did anyone get hurt, Hiro-kun? Were those other people okay?" she asks the Hayato.

Hiroto didn't know for sure it was dead, but Arika seemed sure. "Ummm I will send Tenshi to check." And Tenshi did just that flying off to catch up with them, and upon doing so would do one of a few things to signify how they are. Whatever he was told Hiroto would direct that right back to Arika. "So? That wore me out some, but I guess we are both okay. Now what?"

Arika looks around a bit. Neither she nor Hiro would notice anyone else in immediate danger. The man that Hiroto rescued would come over to the two shinobi and thank them for saving him and his family. He'd even offer a bit of money, though Arika would grumble and tell him to keep it for himself. The villager-folk were heading towards Suna, so Arika would tell them to keep up a good pace and they'd make it soon. "Within an hour!" she told them. Whether or not they believed the little girl was up to them, but they would eventually part ways with the shinobi.
Arika would turn to Hiro, then. "We gotta keep going on the patrol. We're almost done, though, so I think if we move quick we could even meet with those people when we get back!" She grins a bit at getting to chat more with the nice people, then she points Hiro to move out! A few more inky scouts would skitter ahead of them, keeping an eye out for more trouble.
Hiroto lets Arika do most of the talking while the two people come up, and didn't really want their money for it either. So for that he waved them away. Once they were gone he looked back at Arika. "So yeah I think we could catch up with them, but I am getting kind of tired after that. I should be fine as long as we don't overdo it with this. Luckily I am used to this heat." He runs off, and calls Tenshi back as the two of them are too tired to scout for now. He figured Arika could handle that much hopefully.
RP: Hiroto reverts to his normal state.
The rest of the patrol goes without incident. Arika would set the pace to be relatively easy so that Hiroto and Tenshi could recover. But the time they make it back to the village, the sun is setting. "Let's get dinner!" Arika declares suddenly, her stomach rumbling just a bit. She would also ask the guards to see if a cart recently made its way through the Suna-gates, and it seems like it did. So all in all, a successful patrol! …. In a sense. Is there ever a case where a patrol is unsuccessful in actually patrolling? Supposedly when that patrol all dies… but that still helped scout for the future… Hmm!
