Summary:
Aburei has a rather interesting dream.
"What If? First Kiss - Kiss Me"
Somewhere on the open road
It's been a long day for Aburei, traveling on his own down the open road. He's used to being alone, well, aside from Kami-sama's constant presence, but he does sometimes wish he had somebody to share his journeys with. Oh well, if it's meant to happen, it'll happen at the right time. Aburei settles his weary body under the shelter of a spreading tree and drifts off to sleep…
Kiss me
Out of the bearded barley
Nightly
Beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing
Swing the spinning step
You'll wear those shoes and
I will wear that dress
It's a starry night out in a field of gently swaying tall grasses, and Aburei walks through them hand-in-hand with a girl. Fireflies float in the air, glowing brightly and winking out again like soft embers. Her free hand reaches out to catch them, but they evade her grasp just as her sight.
Oh, kiss me
Beneath the milky twilight
Lead me
Out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band, and make
The fireflies dance
Silvermoon's sparkling
So kiss me
Aburei releases her hand and draws the recorder from his belt. As he plays on the instrument, the fireflies seem to become more numerous around her. They swirl about while she spins with her arms outstretched, laughing merrily. Finally she falls back into the tall grass. She lies there and gazes up at the moon.
Kiss me
Down by the broken tree house
Swing me
Upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring
Bring your flowered hat
We'll take the trail marked
On your Father's map
On a lazy summer day, they sit in a pair of swings suspended from the branch of a thick oak tree. Aburei reads aloud from his Scroll of the Way, explaining to her some of its deeper meanings. She asks questions as he reads, some quite easy, others Aburei had never really thought about.
Oh, kiss me
Beneath the milky twilight
Lead me
Out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band, and make
The fireflies dance
Silvermoon's sparkling
So kiss me
Later on, they kick exuberantly on the single-rope swings, sending themselves higher and higher. She reaches out and grasps a twig up the in the foliage at the height of her swing. The tug puts an unexpected sideways momentum into her swing, and for a moment Aburei thinks they'll collide—but they miss, then grab each other safely.
(harmonica interlude)
The ropes intertwine while they slowly expend their momentum, facing each other as the world spins around them.
A montage of activities pass by, from fishing by a stream to nursing a sick child to helping rebuild a damaged village.
Kiss me
Beneath the milky twilight
Lead me
Out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band, and make
The fireflies dance
Silvermoon's sparkling
So kiss me
A bonfire celebration is held in the middle of the restored village. Aburei plays with the other musicians from the town, until she pulls him out from amongst them and into the dancing. In spite of Aburei's clumsy first steps, they are soon spinning happily, hands linked together. The song ends, and she steadies herself against Aburei.
So kiss me
So kiss me
So kiss me
Suddenly it feels so obvious. Aburei gazes into her eyes, then leans in to touch his lips to hers.
Aburei wakes up with a slight start. Whoa…that felt so real. o.o Although now that he's awake, he can't even remember what the girl in his dream looked like. c.c What was that, anyway? A premonition from Kami-sama? An expression of his subconscious desires? Just a random dream? It's…really hard to say.
…But he hopes it'll happen again. *n.n*
