This defense allows a skilled and experienced practitioner of Taijutsu to read an opponents attacks, and predict based on their form the amount of force behind their attack, as well as where that force is applied at the most. The martial artist at which point acts, unleashing just enough power behind their strike to cancel out the force between the two. In the case of sharp weapons, precision becomes increasingly key in halting the momentum behind the intended attack. Thrusting attacks from sharp weapons however cannot be defended against using this technique. Because of the nature of this technique, the need to restrain personal force leaves the user vulnerable to being overpowered. Even so, potential damage dealt can be reduced due to a lack of residual force, as well as the chance of the attack being deflected partially from the clash.
